  • Their designs are innovative and I hope they can execute on them because I think EVs are better when they don't just try to be like traditional ICE vehicles but with electric propulsion.

I think Canoo had some concerns about viability and needed to figure out manufacturing at scale. If giant companies like GMC and Ford are having trouble with adoption, startups like Canoo are in for even tougher sledding. Personally, I'm rooting for all of them though.

  • Same. Think they're pretty comfortable actually. Ours has become the main family vehicle and it's great all around, no complaints.

  • That's refreshing to see in a world of ever increasing enshittification. Wish more companies move in this direction.

  • President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has pledged “deforestation zero” by 2030. His current term ends in January 2027. Amazon deforestation has steeply declined since the end of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro’s rule in 2022. Under that government, forest loss reached a 15-year high.

Government regulation matters and hence why voting is important. We all benefit from preserving the Amazon and yet the right is actively trying to profit from its destruction. What good is wealth if the planet becomes inhospitable?

  • Physical buttons are a must-have for me. Our Bolt EUV has them and I can reach for them without taking my eyes off the road and having to click through submenus to find what I need. Also love having the audio controls as paddles so I don't have to take my hands off the wheel.

Touchscreens are a cost cutting measure, not a better user experience IMO.

  • That's great, let's hope they invest in the infrastructure needed to make it convenient.

Bass said the city will utilize 3,000 buses loaned to it from around the country to ease traffic congestion. The U.S. government last month pledged $900 million to help improve the city's rail and bus systems in anticipation of the Games.

  • This is the plot for Snowpiercer. So we should also start building a train that will circle the frozen planet

  • Same. Got a Bolt EUV and it's easily the nicest car we've owned. Can't see ourselves ever going back to an ICE vehicle. No stopping for gas, no oil changes or smog checks, and nearly free charging with solar...whole experience has been amazing.

  • Just like horse and buggy makers doubling down when the model T was introduced

  • Always uneasy about PE owners since their values tend to be opposed to creating well-liked, sustainable businesses. Hope they don't start gutting budgets, loading up the balance sheet with debt, and siphoning off profits. RIP Toys R' Us.

  • Really great they turned it into a sanctuary. Hope that adoption bill passes and we can eventually get away from unnecessary animal testing altogether.

  • They chose Long Beach, CA in case anyone is just skimming Lemmy. According to another article, one of the main reasons was to attract engineering talent.

Rivian is based just 25 miles south in Irvine and there's Fisker in LA. Tesla and Lucid have a presence in the Bay area, so could be a play to lure those who want to relocate south as well.

  • We have solar but found another option, push reel mowers was perfect for our small yard. It's a bit more of effort if the grass is tall (we have UC Verde drought tolerant grass so I let it grow out to cut down on watering) but I don't ever have to worry about batteries or gas/fumes/noise. Plus I get a workout and it was basically the only type of mower that's still made domestically.

Can attest the Amish-made ones are built like tanks and run smooth (provided the grass is on the shorter side)

  • All the video games magazines would do an E3 issue and I remember binging on all the game announcements and event photos. Good times

  • That'd be great. Can't wait till the whole supply chain, from cargo ships, freight trucks, and last mile delivery, all stop burning fossil fuels

  • Depends on the type of work, but you may want something denser down the road if you find you're cranking down on a narrow piece and it's flexing. Even something with more plies like Baltic birch might give you more mass, but I've only ever used hardwoods for my vises so can't say for sure.

Also recommend those cork/rubber jaw liners for added grip.

  • They just laid off 10% of their workforce (14k jobs) and slashed almost all new job postings to cut costs but they're spending money on Twitter ads?
