  • Always sounds like marketing to me since all we really have so far are shitty LLMs. If they actually were close to AGI there's no way any single government would stop the armsrace to it anyway. We're currently pumping all our eggs into the AI basket and headlines like these encourage it. They imply this breakthrough that is around the corner that will justify the current state of the market while the reality will most likely be a massive disappointment.

    The prince looks for the owner of the gorilla foot and finds her, only it's not really her but just some very hairy broad who pretends it was her. They fall in love but then he finds out the truth and wants to leave but she catches up to him at the airport to explain herself. He forgives her. They kiss. So romantic. She gets a ticket and joins his flight so they can be together but little do they know that the other girl, the real gorilla foot owner...is actually a real gorilla and she is on the plane with them. Enraged because she missed out on her true love and lost her foot, she tears limbs from bodies and bites faces off.

  • I was once at a wedding on an island so pretty much all guests traveled there and stayed in the same few buildings. A teenager ended up having chickenpox and it caused a shitload of problems. Yes, the kid weathered it fine but it's a lot more dangerous for adults and that meant quarantining anyone who showed any symptoms. Great fun.

It's a proposal by technologically inept people who argue that encryption needs to be removed but encryption is so basic that it isn't really feasible to do so. You can make the access harder but that is only an issue for your average joe. Individuals with criminal energy who this is supposed to be about will continue to encrypt their communication while regular users will give up their privacy.

  • There's the aspect of rearranging knowledge but also the distress that lies in dealing with difficult aspects of reality. Right now many people deny human caused climate change because if they didn't they'd see themselves confronted with a bunch of uncomfortable changes and difficult problems.

    It's not just "oh, this thing I believed to be true is actually untrue" but also "ahhh now I have to deal with a bunch of overwhelming issues and the stress that comes with that"
