I run Manjaro on a 2010ish Dell XPS 15 without a single issue. Haven't used it in a while, because I got a 2012 MBP that was lighter to carry and put Kubuntu on that, but last time I used the XPS it was fine.
This is less an issue of proprietary hardware and more user competence IMO
The claim is the as revenue they generate from their documentation site has been cut because LLM programming tools and AI-summaries on search engines reduce the number if people visiting the doc site
Fellow Aussie here - you can get an Anycubic Kobra S1 Combo for less than that. Excellent printer - I've had mine a few months and already have ~600 hours on it.
I haven't, I run a Windows desktop, Linux desktop, Windows laptop, and Linux laptop (was a Mac OS laptop but Apple EoL'd it, so I am looking at a Mac Mini M4 Ultra or M5 if they release one next year). I am OS agnostic though.
