  • I love it. Here's the full expression of distaste from the people of Scottland for that jerk: "Tiny fingered, Cheeto-faced, ferret wearing shitgibbon."

  • I don't have guilt for the girls who were killed in this. Thought I made it clear in what I typed. They're dead, or suffering waiting for rescue (I lean towards dead now, given the time that's elapsed). And that's not great. Brought on by the adults in their lives who they trusted had their best intentions in mind. I believe it's clear they never did. It is all about Winning the Political Football Game, and they approach their choices and heroes with about as much introspection and forethought as they do their chosen college or even high school football team. "Me team good! Other team bad! Ungh!" And now dozens of young women, with a potentially bright life ahead of them, are dead. And all to own the libs. What a fucking waste.

Hopefully that makes it clearer what I'm saying.

  • It's a tempting theory. There are signs that there was skullduggery in the election, and it's really easy to believe there's no way Trump could have actually won. But that idea only partially survives scrutiny.

There are several critical factors I'll point to. Let's start with the easiest. Right or wrong, an election is a referendum on the incumbent party. The Democrats did several things that enabled the idea that the GQP would somehow be better to take off. They let prices of food, housing, and energy get out of hand without even the tiniest hint of helping those impacted by that. No pushback against the billionaire class. No sense that they cared. Sure, they reduced the cost of college education by the SAVE plan, but they didn't push back when SAVE got gutted by the GQP, and even if they had, that only helps the people who went to college, and could easily be spun that the Dems only care for their base. Had there been investigations into the big food corpos, with clear communication what they were doing, maybe the GQP couldn't have successfully hung the high prices on the Dems, and the Dems MIGHT have won on by helping everyone and not just somebody seen as part of their coalition. And the idea that the Dems don't work for the common people and really only serve the donor class might not take off, either, driving Dem Voters to stay home or vote Third Party.

The second big thing is Biden DID promise a single term and a handover to a new generation of Democrats, but he did NOTHING to actually support this. Harris was supposed to be the front-runner for the 2024 Nomination? She should have been front and centre, Biden's attack dog, doing the dirty work that Biden couldn't do thanks to the fact that there are only 24 hours in the day. He should have treated this as a Lame Duck election from the getgo. When people ask where he is, Harris should have said "Biden's doing the hard work of undoing the mess we were left by the Trump administration, and hardening the country's systems against a potential repeat in the future." What she did do was act like a nobody for the first 3 years, then suddenly, appear waiting to take over, with all his baggage and all her baggage. While I did pick her over this mess, a lot of other people didn't, and here we are.

And finally, something I alluded to in the first point: A total lack of communication. This is a recurring and persistent problem! Biden and the Democrats let the GQP win the memetic war, like Obama did in 2010 and 2016, and like Clinton did in the 90s. Every time they get in office, they let the GQP set the messaging, and then promptly lose important elections, allowing the GQP to styme or even outright undo what the Dems did.

You can't just ignore the Dems fault in this. The election may well have been stolen, but if the Dems don't address the above problems, it'll just keep happening.

  • It's getting harder and harder to show empathy for these people. The Shitgibbon is delivering everything he promised to deliver. He doesn't care about anyone, his voters included. The leopards are feasting, and these idiots have no one to blame but themselves. But man...those girls? They didn't vote for anyone. And now they're dead or wish they were dead. And that ain't great.

  • I won't wish death on the guy, but I'll put it this way. Fetterman, if you can't miss your precious beach vacation, you can always resign...

  • It's actually very easy to write Cyberpunk fiction these days. Just read the news and plot after plot after plot after plot after plot...

  • That'll hurt us, but it needs to happen. And targeted boycotts of Red State stuff for extra 'FAFO' energy.

  • Dealing with Trump is a daily example of 'like playing Chess with a pigeon -- the bird shits on the board and struts around like it won the game.' Canadians need to tell the USA to fuck off.

  • Indeed. I do believe that the key to better health is actionable information and a gameplan for how to maintain health. But with the Shitgibbon in office, and his merry band of miscreants running the show, I can't determine if my smartwatch will give me good readings or not, and ensure that only I get to access that data, unless I explicitly choose to let someone else access it.

  • Like others have said, nothing we say or don't say will change what ideas they get. But calling it out makes them at least reconsider being so transparent.

  • You have a lot riding on a single election in one of the most democratic parts of the country. While I agree that Democratic Socialists did make a push here that could well set the tone of politics for the next 20 years on the left side of America, I'd hesitate to say it with certainty, given how crass American voters can be. Let's let ZM actually get elected mayor, and let him prove he can get a DS platform passed in NYC before we crown him America's saviour.

  • I know this is in jest, but it's definitely something the shitheads would push. And my answer goes thusly:

No. The Economy hasn't done a damn thing for me, and it's done less for my wife. I'm treading water, unable to afford a house or a car on what was once an unfathomable sum of money when I was younger. It has done less for my wife, who relies on my job to keep a roof over her head. You want us to have kids? Reassure us that our kids will have a better life, and stop vampire-squidding us and sucking down every loose dollar.

  • 100% gamer chick too. I'm lucky to have her, and even as we check out girls together, I just look, because I know I have a good girl at home. :)

  • Thanks for these. They don't make it clear that Canada is a valid destination for LGBTQ+ folks to seek asylum from, but they do indicate that there is discussion in Canada. Have to see how the referenced cases go, though.

  • There's this possible ending in Cyberpunk 2077 that I think speaks to how Billionaires view the world. The leader of the Japanese megacorp Arasaka is arguably the most powerful man in Japan, more-so than even the Japanese emperor. His company's security forces includes an aircraft carrier, not to mention endless drones and faceless goons equipped with ... if not the best technology on the planet, then the second best. And they've unlocked the technology of digitising a person's consciousness and storing it.

The CEO's son is a bit of a rebel, trying to undermine his father. He eventually gets very hands-on (integral part of the plot that your character witnesses first-hand early in the game) and bumps his father off and takes over Arasaka. And if you play the game a certain way, you reach an ending where the daughter of the CEO assists her dead father in ... coopting the son's body, displacing his consciousness, and 'reincarnating' in the son's body, to continue his centuries of ownership of Arasaka.

This is fiction, but Cyberpunk is all about assuming the worst of our corporate overlords. I don't think it's an overreach.

  • My wife and I made the same decision. We joke that Octomom had our kids.

8 billion people call Earth home. As another commentor has said, we probably should have half that. Your choice and our choice not to have kids enables that, even if only stupid people reproduce. With how the world is turning out right now, I think we both made the right choice.

  • Just like the 1930s. By the time countries will open their doors to the oppressed in the USA, we'll be rolling our own ovens here.

  • My google-fu hasn't up to this point. In fact, I get lots of results saying that Americans are not welcome as asylum seekers in my googling. Your single link only shows places that take American immigrants, not places welcoming American refugees. In fact, New Zealand is suffering from a Conservative-inflicted recession that is making things difficult for immigrants and natives alike, and Australia has some serious restrictions on immigrants (a close friend of mine did that route and barely made the cut). And Canada? Despite a victory for the Liberal Party and 'elbows up' regarding American rhetoric, they still have lots of people angry about how immigration has been handled.

If you actually have links to help get victimised people out of the USA, maybe instead of 'why don't u google it urself', maybe post those links. That's FAR more helpful than the whole 'go do it urself!' response. :)

  • Or do something they don't agree with. Like marrying a Black bisexual pagan woman.
