If you are offended by someone we had do 3 minutes of meows who turned out to be a terrible person, you probably can't handle other content in the game."     It felt more like an apolitical take than a centrist take. For me, that's fine. I understand your perspective also and generally I agree.

    I mostly agree. I think there's a couple reasons why it didn't happen though. First one is he just didn't know. He was probably more focused on other things than if some of the cameos in are from problematic people. The other reason is that if he did remove them he would anticipate a headline like "McMillen removes cameo from Conservative Internet personality in new game" and he wanted to game to stay apolitical.

    I'm really enjoying the game. And think McMillen could have done better. But if I stopped playing/reading/watching/using every piece of media from someone I disagree with a little then I wouldn't be able to do anything ever.

  • I've played a bit now. My first broken build was probably around 30 hours in. Which, yeah, is a bit.

    I enjoyed the game before I started seeing broken builds. It's still a solid tactics game. But it's a genre I like.

  • Interesting take. You bring up a good point, but the game has been in development for 10 years and it's a really small cameo. I'm assuming most did the voice work for free or a small flat rate. It's not like you're supporting them with royalties every time the cat meows.

    If you asked Ben Stiller to remove the Donald Trump cameo from Zoolander he'd probably give a similar answer despite Donald Trump being a far worse person and Ben Stiller publicly being a Democrat. I don't think it's a "centrist bullshit" position to work with people with wildly different views.

    For me, it's just such a small issue to focus on and ruin something else you find enjoyable. It's one thing if McMillen was a vocal supporter of Israel or vocal MAGA. Like, I haven't watched a Tom Cruise movie in almost 2 decades because of his role in Scientology, but I watch Zoolander like once a year.

  • Maybe there is something more here, but I'm always skeptical of these studies that are more likely explained because of wealth indicators or another confounding factor, like the red wine study from like 20 years ago.

    Is it possible that people that drink 2-3 cups of coffee are more likely to have an office job, which is more likely to be intellectually demanding, which decreases risk for dementia. And if you drink decaf you are more likely to have another neurological disorder that increases dementia risk.

    5 % 2 == 1, because 5 == 2 x 2 + 1

    10 % 7 == 3, because 10 == 1 x 7 + 3

    Your "edit 2" is mostly correct. I don't think of it "undoing" the division. But if that makes sense to you then I guess it's fine

  • Quick Google, at least for the US, but I imagine it's similar for the rest of the world. There are about 1 million licensed medical doctors and about 100,000 veterinarians.

    It makes sense, people go to the doctor a lot more often than animals.

    I'm not sure how this plays into it, but doctors tend to be much more specialized and many specializations wouldn't be useful in a zombie apocalypse, though their general knowledge would probably be valuable.

    Rural doctors would probably do very well, though, a lot of them are going to have similar setups as vets.

    That's the reality of banning abortions that most Republicans will hate. Banning abortions means the government needs access to your medical records and the government will make decisions on what medical procedures you can have. Not you and a doctor.

  • Some experienced programmers forget how difficult computers and programming can be for beginners. It's obvious for us to look at the error and resolve it, but for most people it's pretty arcane. Relevant XKCD

    Unfortunately, I think this is also a right of passage of some sorts. If you want to continue programming you will encounter a problem that you can't ask or find the answer on the internet and you will have to work through it yourself. I've had problems I've been stuck in for weeks or months. At least for me, it's always been such a high when I finally solve these. :)

  • None of these are a cure. Clinical depression is a real thing and you should see a mental health professional. But here's my list.

    • Go outside and get some sun
    • Exercise
    • Drink water
    • Get enough sleep
    • Eat healthier
    • Form meaningful social connections
    • Reduce screen time
    • Only use your bedroom for sleeping(and sex), use different spaces for different activities
    • Journal
    • Write down 3 things that need to get done today, and then do it
    • (bonus edit) Meditate for 10 minutes

    Most importantly. You don't have to do all of it. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. If all you can manage today is drinking a glass of water, then start there. This random Internet stranger believes in you.

    Also drugs.

  • My former career was in IT, I'm a developer now. I work with a bunch of tech savvy people, but I still have the 'IT Support Aura'. I've lost count of how many times a coworker has a computer problem, asks for help, and then watches me fix it and they claim they tried the exact same thing and it didn't work. I never really have an answer besides 'computers fear me'

  • Look, I could point you to the blogs and patch notes for Chromium and Firefox and you could read into it and make your own conclusions from it.

    From my perspective as a solution architect that has worked for several mid to large size organizations, is that security is difficult to measure and constantly changing. When I evaluate what software to use I do it on the basis of how they've historically addressed security concerns, and where the organization that develops the software priorities lies. My opinion is that when it comes to security, Mozilla and Google are about the same when it comes to Firefox and Chromium.

    I haven't looked into Brave much, so I can't comment there besides it's another organization that you have to trust so it's inherently more risky.

  • The article you linked is over 3 years old at this point. You can't use that as the basis for your argument for software that's likely had hundreds of patches since the time that article was published.

    They are obviously saying that their hardware is powerful enough to play all games; not that all games support their choice of OS.

    To OOP: You might not be able to turn off their TV. But you should share unbiased or left-leaning articles, shows, news, etc. And try to get them to "eat" a more balanced diet.

    There are video games that are less engaging than visual novels.

    Broad generalizations like this are so useless. It's okay that you play one or two visual novels and they weren't for you. I don't particularly like visual novels either, but to discredit an entire genre because of it is just ignorant. I've played some visual novels that were excellent and pushed the boundaries of video games. See Slay the Princess and Doki Doki Literature Club. I'm playing Date Everything right now, it's not exactly innovative, but I'm having fun with it.

  • Hormones can play a role as well. Anecdotally, my wife's hair during pregnancy became fuller and less brittle. Duckduckgo "pregnancy hair". A monthly cycle, being on hormonal birth control, etc. will likely have some effect. I definitely agree that genetics does play a bigger role, but claiming that gender/sex plays no role is definitely incorrect.
