  • Possiblity #1: Something that worked through my insurance is Brightside, a service that is similar to Better Help but more guided by HIPPA and they take insurance. I had a crisis and was connected to a psychiatrist and therapist which worked super well for me to have it scheduled easily with my ADHD.

Possibility #2: Psychology Today’s therapist search also had a filter for things like insurance accepted, location, online only sessions, and religious belief and LGBT friendliness. It has also worked well for me to find therapists in the past.

I hope you find a way to talk to a therapist soon! It has helped me tremendously.

  • Thanks so much for this post! ❤️

I actually did get good at it and even experienced the same via masking. Unfortunately, masking and perfectionism are not sustainable over a whole career and what sucks is that the teaching field tries to (in my experience) keep people within the education discipline via guilt and a lack of training outside of the classroom.

Anyway, I don’t totally regret my career but it’s time to move on. Thanks for the good wishes and response, friend.

  • Not OC, but an important tenet of Buddhism as you probably know is known as the “First Noble Truth,” which states that “life is suffering.” The second through fourth noble truths basically tell us to cease attachment and desire and to live a life based on “right living” to avoid the problems caused by attachment and suffering.

I think this is where OC has an issue and I agree because sometimes being a human sucks and you need some escapes from that suffering. I consider myself a Buddhist as well, and while many Buddhists will talk of the “middle way” between living a conventional life and living a life that tries to get rid of all attachments, I find myself mostly leaning toward the conventional ways of alleviating suffering like playing video games and smoking weed.

Tldr: living like a monk isn’t easy (or something I want) but the Buddhist worldview helps me make sense of the world so I use it.
