Remember, we got to loop it through Jones!

  • This is not an issue on Linux or Macs.

Even on windows, if you play the movie (so M2TS with external audio and subs), you would simply get subtitles with the PowerShell code as subtitle text at one point.

They are way over hyping this issue.

  • Based on the title, I first thought subtitles embedded in a container (like MKV) could be used to launch malware.

Thankfully this is not the case. I was really worried for a second.

This honestly has nothing to do with video formats or even torrents.

If you are pirating you should have enough common sense to not click on random .lnk files.

Most reputable trackers/indexers don't allow .lnk files or even random raw M2TS files.

  • The clothes are nearly identical.

  • I feel like I haven't heard about Mandy Moore in 20 years.

  • Not unless the artist is selling directly

More often than not, for niche and/or non-english content, this is indeed the case. I also don't see the big deal with supporting a smaller publisher.

  • Does the future seem bleak? Are we going to be stuck with shitty WebDLs for most new content?

For mainstream content and somewhat well known content, both regular BD and 4K BD rip are widely posted shortly after release.

You do have some truly niche content and non-english content where it's difficult to find BDRips / BD Remuxes, but you can usually access older DVDRips. If you're into this kind of content (as I am), you might as well just buy the BD (or stick to the DVDRip which is fine as far as I am concerned).

  • That's a fair arguement, I can understand your perspective.

I think my negative view of the series is more due to my expectations (I think I started watching it right after finishing Electric Dreams, which I thought was very well done).

  • The 2nd episode of "Man in the High Castle" when you realize they just copied the setting and are going to ignore the key elements (and strengths) of the book.

I gave up on the adaption about 5 min into the second episode.

  • These days, torrents are honestly not as big of an issue from IP holders perspective as you would think.

In the mid 2000s, torrents accounted for 30% to 50% of all internet traffic (with higher share during peak hours). It was a big deal.

Nowadays, there are other priorities and torrents are seen as less pressing challenge.

  • I remember watching “Northern Exposure” as child in the late 90s, early 2000s, back then local TV only showed much older foreign TV shows.

‘Northern Exposure’ actor gave ICE agents in Redmond her tribal ID. They called it ‘fake,’ she says

  • There is an American squid game? Why?

  • So I watched the OG movie which I thought was awesome. Also watched the TV/video movie from 2009 which was OK.

I watched maybe 2-3 seasons of the OG series and I thought it was fine in a "trip of the week" kinda way. Nothing special though, many episodes were below average and the overall narrative arc was subpar. That being said, it's a solid and entertaining trash sci-fi series.

Have I missed anything? Any recommendations?

This first movie was incredibly good (if you like adventure/sci-fi).

  • I first watched Peep Show in 2007 at end of my teens. I think I watched the show until the 2010 season or so.

Kind of scary to see that both Webb and Mitchell are in their early 50s (I know Webb isn't on the photo).

Back then, it was a cool, edgy show for young people. Now it's middle aged people remembering their youth.

  • I thought Prometheus and Alien: Covenant were all right, enjoyable even. More so if you use the Chaos Edition and Ninth Circle Edition fanedits respectively.

With Prometheus in particular, the Chaos Edition removes all the stupidity and adds in deleted scenes that make much more sense (I was shocked to find out that they did actually a more believable version of the script).

Alien was just fundamentally flawed. I don't mind novel takes on a series or an adaption. I enjoyed Aliens: Phalanx (Alien in medival type setting) even though it had many flaws; YA tropes, deus ex machina type plot device, weak characters, some awkward social messaging.

  • I watched the two intro episodes and 10 minutes of the 5th standalone episode.

I hated it. It's the reasons why I dislike series.

Felt like a Disney Channel x Alien crossover.

Apple TV execs dismiss introducing an ad tier, buying Warner Bros. Discovery

    arstechnica.com /apple/2025/11/apple-has-no-plans-to-bring-ads-to-apple-tv/
  • I dropped Rings of Power immediately after watching the first episode.

It had that "Hollywood exec writes a Tolkien fanfic" vibe.

  • No.

  • An alternative that hasn't been presented yet.

Why not use less well known foreign public trackers? Rutracker has a stupid amount of content, including a lot of niche music content.

If you are worried about Rutracker being too well known, you can try Mazepa Torrent. This is only relevant for movies and shows. Their collection isn't as good as rutracker, but they have most new releases. While the default audio language is Ukrainian, English is always included (this would an issue for non-English language movies/shows, but English subtitles are usually included).

  • I cancelled Netflix once Trump got re-elected, should have done it earlier.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two there won't be any ad-free tiers at all (higher price gives you 4K and HDR, but you still get ads). You know, competition and shit.
