I only got through the first quarter of book one, is there a lot of dark humor?

Look, I’ll be polite and sit to pee when I’m visiting people or using my roommate’s toilet, but in return I’m going to stand when I use my own, and I don’t care if there’s a little splashback or what-have-you. I’m the one keeping it clean, so I can let it get a little unclean with my casual, comfortable personal relief!

I only get a minute of ign per day, so I had to skim the article. I played a lot of TW Warhammer and this mod until a few years ago, and the cycle was always the same. New dlc would release that breaks the SFO(Steel Faith Overhaul) mod this guy makes, a couple weeks later the mod would update bringing the new content up to par with the rest of the mod. I never minded because I could just play the new content in vanilla for a campaign or two and the mod has always been of a high caliber rivaling and arguably surpassing the base game.

It sounds like what’s happening now is new content releases that breaks the mod, and rather than wait for it to be updated and updated right some people are using AI to get the mod in a functional state then uploading the whole thing as their own. The article talks about submods but those have always existed for SFO and been fine.

I’d hate for such an iconic mod to be taken down, but if other people are uploading his work wholesale because they’re too impatient to play without it, I don’t know that I can blame him.

It took me a while to figure out. I had a bad habit of scrolling r/popular for (effectively) infinite content, and I tried trimming it down to just stuff I liked by muting communities until one day it started giving me a simple error when I’d try to mute something. I searched around after a while and that’s when i found out about the limit. Reddit itself says nothing about the limit existing anywhere.

First, there’s more to his arguments than not having to remember things. You have to compare written knowledge to oral tradition. If you read something and have questions, the words aren’t going to magically change to something understandable. If you are learning from someone and have questions, you can ask that someone and they can rephrase it in a new way that’s easier to understand. In a similar vein, if you read something written long ago like Shakespeare the language will have changed such that it’s more difficult to understand. If his stories had been passed down by word of mouth the meaning could be kept while the words used to communicate those meanings evolve with the language. Of course writing has many benefits that make it worthwhile, but pretending that the only argument against it is that it stores information on a page instead of your brain is wrong.

Second, people calling a new thing bad in the past has zero relevance to people calling a different new thing bad in the present. Plato/Socrates had no word generating machines in their time, so what do their opinions have to do with a word generating machine?

You can’t block any community you don’t like on reddit because there’s a limit on the number you can mute. I know this because I hit that limit before I deleted my account.

It’s not always easy to find the exact meme I have in mind, there have been a couple times that I gave up on internet searching for one because it just wasn’t showing up. I also prefer scrolling through a bunch of memes that I’ve already vetted as good rather than the sea of meme trash the internet holds.

You’re right with all your bullet points. Episode VIII has a fundamentally broken plot in many ways. The thing that it has going for it though is that it has a few actual themes that I found interesting. I like that Johnson questioned the whole light side dark side polarity and that Rey came from nobody in particular. I liked the rejection of the Skywalker family and assertion that heroes could come from anywhere. If it had followed a better movie, “let the past die” would have been a legitimate highlight for me. It didn’t work in the trilogy it’s a part of, but if the trilogy had been based around the VIII we got I think it could have worked as a sequel trilogy to Star Wars.

And the thing is that I think those are about the only things I particularly like in the entire sequel trilogy besides Babu Frik (I hate how much I love that little dude), and that makes episode VIII the best of a trilogy of bland to bad movies for me. Episode VII was the best constructed of them, and it had cool stuff, but it didn’t do anything that made me think “oh that’s interesting” (like VIII did) because so much of it was nostalgia based 'memberberries. You’re right about it being made to address fan concerns, but that was only relevant in 2015, and I’m looking back at in 2026. Episode IX was just a train wreck start to finish, and I don’t particularly blame it because it had the unenviable task of following up VIII, but it’s still just bad with nothing interesting to show for it.

It’s a gameplay formula many people like (including mainstream crowds), a new GTA only comes out every few years which gives space to prevent that formula getting stale, and other AAA games are rarely able to implement that formula to the same scale and degree of detail. They tend to set a new standard from a technical standpoint.

I don’t much care for the series, but it’s not that surprising that it’s a big deal.

I’ve been waiting till midterm elections since at least January to start making predictions.

The people who say the brain stops developing are wrong and I used to be one of them. The study that belief is based on didn’t look at anyone older than that, so the real conclusion is that the brain is still developing at 25 and data has not been gathered on older people.

As far as I can tell people are still capable of learning into old age, so the brain is likely still capable of development.

It was middle school when I realized “you can only be cool if you’re not trying to be cool,” which I then said in an effort to sound cool. By high school that had sunk in better and I accidentally ended up popular, I think. That was when I first started looking past what people do to try looking cool.

In college I got into psychedelics, broke through to ego death while listening to Dark Side of the Moon with blindfolds and peaking, and found that the deeper level of existence was that there isn’t one. Most things in life can be as simple or as complex as you want, and I had been trying to make it more complex than it is.

But the thing I keep finding is that for as simple as most things actually are, people are consistently more complex than their surface suggests.

A week ago my cousin was in town and I had a one on one conversation with him for the first time in our adult lives that started with him showing me his relatively popular Instagram photos from the past couple years of him running the rave circuit. But as we got to talking about it, he revealed that he didn’t give a shit about his popularity, his ex-boyfriend was the socials guy who wanted the clout of being with a hot rave guy. He had become disillusioned with pretty much his whole life, but you wouldn’t get that just looking at his socials. And for as shallow as his ex is, if you peeled back the layers of bullshit he’s built around his life, there’s probably some interesting thoughts in there.

I guess I’m not sure what I’m trying to say with all this. When I make an effort to understand, most people I meet drop the facades and spill their guts pretty quick to me. I might be uniquely weird for that ability, but I don’t know that it’s narcissism on their part so much as trying to be cool and grappling with never succeeding because of that trying.

It would be interesting if you took a photo of something, drew that image from memory, then overlaid your drawing on the photo.

About as much as is left over after the pasteurization and filtration the milk I drink goes through I guess. Is there a safe threshold that all commercial milk rests above?

The wikipedia page doesn’t go super in depth, but it seems like somatic cell count is just a measurement of how much infectious schmutz is in milk? Why is this concerning?

You know how much your truck jostles around better than me, but there are crockpots with rubber sealed lids and locks to keep it shut that might be good!

I’ve only minored in philosophy, but last weekend I watched Waiting for Godot for the first time with my mother and as soon as the intermission came she turned and asked, “Jaycifer you’ve studied philosophy, what insights do you have so far?” I definitely feel that it carries an expectation that I think deeply about everything.

What kind of assumptions do you deal with? Do you mind if I ask what area you focused on?

Much like seeing one of the new post trucks, it’s a fun game to point at “small” trucks and exclaim “look, normal-size truck!” It’s just sad that they’re getting rare enough to point them out.
