Agreed. While plenty of people have been covering energy use by technology for many years as well as the many dangers of social media and other online services…the fact is Gen AI simply takes everything that was already questionable and doubles it…quadruples it… Yes, not everything in tech is bad! And the stuff that was bad before does not excuse what's frighteningly worse now.
I've literally never heard of those horrible companies mentioned in the post. I have no idea what they do. In that sense, maybe Ed's bad at PR? Honestly I've been following Ed's work for a long time now and I'm also a frequent critic online of genAI, so I don't really understand this swinging at him with a bat. He's been a net positive for the movement, no question. Also the line about how he's an ass on social media…that's his brand. He's always roasting everyone. He also roasts himself, when he's not ironically making himself out to be a genius (in that winking British way). If you don't like that sort of humor, fine, but I think it's pretty weird to take it too seriously. 🤷🏻♂️
Not one single mention in this entire article about how the onus of safety has to be on drivers and on the car-oriented infrastructure of the community. Not a single mention about how to improve safety for pedestrians and micromobility users across the board.
This kind of reporting is criminal. But OK sure, it's not the car-brained people who are out of touch, it's the children who are wrong.
Ah yes, NeoNaziOS. We definitely want that to go mainstream.

(seriously, if you don't know who DHH is please do some research…his HEY World blog + X account is rife with stuff that'll make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. 😬)
These are the hardest working people in the business right now. They are entitled to making a decent living and the least folks can do is sign up for a free account. 😅
I don't know, I'd stay clear of this one. The author seems to be all about LLM-all-the-things and it's possible this was largely vibe-coded. I use Lightroom (non-Classic) because it'll sync instantly between Mac, iPhone, & iPad. I'd love to use a FOSS solution if it were available, but this doesn't seem to be the answer.
I found The Minimalist one amusing and a bit relevant, but otherwise I didn't resonate with any of them. I feel like I'd fall under The Artisan : I'm a hippie type you'd expect to see in a Portlandia episode (and lol, I actually live in Portland), and my goal is to hand-craft every line of code and offer it up as an organic, farm-to-table morsel of supernutritional bliss with excellent mouthfeel.
These thoughts are way too deep for a silly meme thread, but I'm here for it! 🫡
