  • I believe it's the same thing I noted in another comment - https://lemmy.world/comment/19924290

Basically session key vs rotating session key, but to be honest I only skimmed your link as it got dense fast.

  • I think the biggest thing here is that beyond just a session key (to make sessions secure from each other), this approach uses a rotating session key. That means each transaction in a sesssion is unique ensuring forward and backward secrecy.

I may have read it wrong plus cybersecurity is not my forte.

  • Probably a mixture of that and dumping products on other countries (which there have been a couple of articles regarding this happening in Europe).

  • Snub usually has a negative connotation for the one doing the snubbing. Additionally they didn't ignore him, they just called out his bad behavior.

  • This absolutely has happened. Literally happened with a friend of mine when hiking. They didn't understand the scale and we ended up with 1/2 inch thick cuts of turkey for our sandwiches.

  • Good to know, most of what they were saying didn't sound too far off, but only skimmed it. I'm not a huge crypto person to begin with though, so I may just shrug off some of their bias.

  • I get why it's so hard to understand, economics (even when studied) isn't really a science and a lot is based in vibes.

Bitcoin is a fascinating example of a modern day commodity based system. Theoretically there is a finite amount of bitcoin that can exist, meaning there is a limited supply that controls the "market". And as we can see in the bitcoin market, commodity has its own problems (most notably people don't really want to spend it).

There are even some research done in the space, I'm not familiar with the Cato institute, but there write up here seems like a decent explanation of gold vs bitcoin - https://www.cato.org/blog/how-bitcoin-system-unlike-gold-standard

  • It's not scifi and it's not current, but "leverage" has a very similar vibe and production value. It's a bunch of thieves turned good where each episode is basically a mini oceans 11.

For current TV shows, I'm not sure I know of any. Everything that seems close is too much drama not enough comedy and most are serial rather than episodic. Animated shows might fair better, Final Space or Inside Job might be worth looking into.

  • Yeah, theyve already repeatedly tried to zero out (no funding for) and or close the education department.

I've said it before, but they already played their hand and admitted they want/will decimate the federal government one way or another, so it's not a negotiation tactic.

  • The game Outer Worlds uses this as a main plot device.

  • No, all those graphs tell very different stories and even if they did, it wouldn't inherently mean the transition to fiat was the problem.

  • To be honest, having used a bunch of their systems, I think most people would be better off without them.

  • Your best bet is probably to take the tracking info you have and contact UPS directly.

Fact of life right now though is international shipping is going to be wonky/fucked for the US at least.

I've had some packages seem like they've just disappeared, but then eventually show up, and others that are still in the ether.

    Best of luck.

  • While graphs can help tell a story, they aren't really statistical proof. Especially because Healthcare is a complicated field with a lot of factors that could impact overall outcomes.

Some of the major things that ACA did was change how preexisting conditions were covered as well as children being able to stay on Healthcare until they were 26 and medicaid expansion.

The other major changes, like health insurance markets were so heavily attacked that the benefits from them were never able to really materialize.

While I agree that we aren't seeing the outcomes we'd hope for, I would largely blame that on Republicans who repeatedly waste time trying to revoke the ACA rather than pushing policy that actually tries to improve things.

  • And even then Republicans have been constantly chipping away at it and trying to repeal it.

I feel like a lot of people forget that Healthcare was a lot worse before ACA/Obamacare and that's in its crippled state.

Just imagine what the US could do if we consistently elected people who cared about us.

  • When I hear this kinda response, it just makes me find the claims more believable.

Like whenever this admin comes out with this kind of rhetoric, it usually means the accusation is true.

  • You had all democrats vote for it, with a couple Republicans flipping (the typical bunch with Rand Paul and Murkowski). Then you have all the Republican voting against.

The only notable exceptions are Ted Cruz not voting (don't know why) and Fetterman voting with Republicans. But at this point Fetterman might as well switch parties.

Note: Rand Paul pretty much always votes against anything not isolationist (the one true libertarian), so this is typical. Alaska/Murkowski is always a bit odd and her voting with Democrats happens fairly frequently.

  • Not the original commenter, but basically covering your face is all you really need. If you're worried about being tracked/identified your phone is the biggest threat.

  • This is saying they can map thermal to known faces. But this is far from being able to read faces through materials. Thermal/infrared doesn't provide that kind functionality, at least to my knowledge the signal would bleed into the mask. It could work for glasses or maybe thin masks.
