  • Most people won't agree with this but... Amazfit. About as closed as you can get. It has (depending on the model) about as many features as you might want. Mine, the GTR4, is circular and gives a decent watch effect with a dark watch face and a leather strap. It has GPS, can pair directly to Bluetooth earphones and has some internal storage you can use to upload your music so you can use it offline. No SIM/eSIM though.

Back to the closed part: You only need to install their app and pair it to theirs during the initial setup, once. Following Gadgetbridge's clear instructions, you can then get the login token, pair with gadgetbridge instead and just uninstall the official app. It then becomes your trustworthy watch that never sends any data out, because it no longer uses the official app. Not just amazfit though, I'd suggest to go to their supported devices list (which is... Comprehensive by now), and carefully check if a device you are interested in is supported and to what degree. Gadgetbridge might look ugly but it's 100% reliable and privacy friendly.

  • I'll have to check on this one, never heard of it, and unbound has a tendency to randomly fail on me after a few months.

  • I needed to buy another 20TB drive. I paid 100$ more for THE SAME MODEL i bought two years ago.

  • I feel the list isn't comprehensive enough? It's missing some heavy hitters... Severance? Fallout? Silo? I'm sure there's quite a few more that people might want to vote.

I think users should be able to add items to the list that the rest of users could also vote.

  • Not much...openstreetmap, or gmaps websites, if I need to find updated businesses or pictures of the location.

  • Huh...first news of this. I'll have to look into it. I love their non-internet stuff, like their power banks, air pump, screwdrivers and other small gadgets, but usually steer clear of their IoT things unless I know for a fact I can block them and use them offline.

EDIT: I'm not sure what other lite devices might not connect online. But the Mi Air Purifier 4 Lite website already shows "works with Amazon Alexa and OK Google". So I guess this one is definitely online...

  • Thanks...I'm thinking I'll setup a syncthing folder. The backup can happen automatically, but I guess I'll have to remember to manually import each time.

  • Sure, I could suspect it...but how can I try to troubleshoot it? Is there a way to see what blocks the desktop from locking the screen?

  • Because it's Xiaomi. Everything Xiaomi NEEDS an app and cloud connection to share as much of your stuff as possible. It's how they get cheaper selling prices to begin with.

  • Thanks! This is what I'm getting here. If I understand this correctly, this is a list of POSSIBLE inhibitors...not which one was triggered last time blocking the actual suspension right?

Having a second thought about this, it looks like Screen Locker might be the culprit. But I'm not completely sure. I really could see the desktop wasn't even locked after a whole night. So maybe it failed to trigger? How can I look at...what's inhibiting the screen from locking, now? Just like suspension, it works when manually triggered with Meta key + L.

  • Down Cemetery Road. Same writer as Slow Horses. A bit more unhinged but still a fun watch.

  • Other than Tuta, which would you consider?

  • Just for clarification. In ProtonPlus, with Lutris selected on the top left, I went and clicked to install "Proton-GE-Latest, GE-Proton10-26, EM-10.0.32, EM-10.0.31, Proton-10.0.3, DXVK v2.7.1, VK3D-Proton v3.0b, VK3D-Lutris v2.14". All of these. However, in Lutris - any game's configuration - Runner tab, I get only: System (9.0 Ubuntu), wine-ge-8.26, and Proton-GE-Latest. There's quite a lot of them missing. And I don't know what triggers the ones it finds and why the others are missing.

  • Good one! But I think it's the Ubuntu repo package.

EDIT: Sigh...Since this is KDE Neon, running on Ubuntu 24.04...the Ubuntu repo version of Lutris is v0.5.14...From 2023. I guess that might have something to do. I'll install the flatpak first.

  • Thanks. This is the first time I hear about this program, but it looks like it's indeed the one taking over the pw credentials. I tried unsetting the variables, and hopefully it will stop bugging after a reboot.

  • Is the machine in the picture the most advanced model ready to deploy in the streets? I'd love to see it in operation.

  • I'm sure that bear has been declawed and defanged. And I'm sure that's why the guy went so confidently for another go at it, since the bear couldn't actually bite nor shred.

  • Are there still old original 35mm films in circulation? Or is this a digital to film transfer?

  • Wait until every country starts testing theirs.
