  • Honestly, I think he might actually fall into the category of cares more about appearing smart than being smart. Not to say he's dumb, but I do get the sense the reputation is very important to him

  • First off, no chance those taxes cover all roads, the general population tax is subsidizing. That also doesn't consider the environmental impact that's being socialized. And the safety impact. And how roads are given priority over people almost every time. Cars are insanely subsidized by society - but that's not my point. These types of programs are more efficient without a bunch of means testing and related bureaucracy. If something is for the public good we should be willing to socialize the cost. You today, me tomorrow.

  • Christianity is a pile of contradictions. If that's the bar no one's a Christian. Turns out if you choose to believe something based on faith despite all evidence you're gonna find yourself with some weird company. If that makes you uncomfortable then you might just be on the path to joining reality.

  • Do I get a tax exemption for road construction if I don't drive a car? It's good for society, do it. We don't need every tax to have a bunch of bureaucracy piled on top of it making it less efficient. Rising tides raise all ships.

  • Sorry dude, if you believe Jesus is God then you're a Christian. Everything else is denominations and arguments about true scotsmen. You don't get to tell me I'm not one and I don't get to tell you you're not one. If someone doesn't eat meat they are vegetarian, even if all they eat is processed junk. I can say they are a bad vegetarian, but so long as they don't eat meat I can't say they aren't one at all.

  • Omg. 'look at all this lack of evidence!'. Shes so close

  • Mate I'm sure there's a whole pile of things in the Christian bible that you don't follow. And I'm not even talking the gotcha things but like, actual teachings. Like, do you keep the sabbath? If you're a woman do you follow all of thine husbands commands? If not am I right to say you are not a sincere Christian? If not, what are you? No it can't work that way. If someone says they are Christian, they are Christian. You can say that Catholics are bad Christians, or that they're going to hell, but you can't say they aren't Christian, because then no one is Christian. That's what denominations are for.

That's like me saying I know you don't believe in God but you also murdered someone and I don't like that so you're not really an atheist.

  • I'm not celebrating his death, I'm celebrating the fact that he will no longer be calling for violence. Don't see how that makes me the bad guy

  • Yeah I think as long as the devs are forward about it no problem. I have plenty of 'hard things' in my day to day life and I'm not looking for more of that in a videogame. Give me a Stardew or Factorio everytime - I want to relax and design things. Different games are for different people and that's a good thing. Any game made to satisfy everyone will almost certainly satisfy no one.

  • I mean, if they believe Jesus was *Christ then that makes them christian yes?

  • I mean in modern times mining companies have instigated wars for 'rocks'

  • Yeah I feel like we're getting a derivative joke here....like we're mixing two other ones and something got lost in translation

  • Mate I could say the same thing about capitalism. It's never worked in it's pure form. It never provides for welfare and naturally leads to wealth concentration and revolution. It always collapses. When people say they want capitalism what they mean is they want socialism with some carve outs for markets.

It turns out people generally want some things to be socialized and some things to be market based. Stop saying 'socialism doesn't work'. It's like saying 'carrots are bad for you cause if you just eat carrots you'll die'. Arguments like this are what got us here. Nuance exists, eating more vegetables isn't going to kill us.

  • Yeah at the slow paces outside you're more likely to get dehydrated than drunk.

  • Gonna need a citation on that. I've never heard a single other person define workout that way in any country I've ever been to

  • I think that person is saying that street biking requires a lot of slowing and stopping cause we invented cars then immediately had to invent traffic lights. I'm lucky in that I can stay at a decent speed for like 30% of my commute and even that doesn't really feel like a workout.

Going the 'long way' increases the time not the load, and it's the load that's missing.

  • Yeah unless it's an absolute downpour I tend to prefer the rain wet over the sweaty under the rain gear wet. I totally get how people are not into that. Which is why we need more trains/busses too

  • These assholes are bringing this mentality to the infrastructure industry now. As little as it worked in software development I promise you it works even less in large scale construction. That's why infrastructure engineers are required to be licensed, we tried this bs 200 years ago and shit literally went off the rails

  • Yeah I lived abroad for a while and it sure was fun having a bunch of randos lecture me in how awful America is. Like, dude, I grew up there, I'm aware of all these things. Also notice I left?
