    Yet behind the celebrations, a troubling pattern has developed: The volunteer community that built this encyclopedia has lately rejected a key innovation designed to serve readers.

    But not that one, because rejecting AI 1) is not a generational rejection and 2) it is correct to reject it.

    What I think is or will be the generational problem: the community that maintains it and decides what is being accepted or rejected is an "in group" that it is impossible to break into with conflicting ideas. For example, I do think the gaming, game mechanics and game development related pages can be vastly improved. But I don't think the people responsible for those pages are interested in the changes I would suggest.

    All the wikis for different games could just be on wikipedia. But they're not, probably because they were rejected, because it's "not relevant". Well, some people decided they were relevant after all and they made their own wikis for those. The outcome is tribalism based fragmentation, because of differences in opinion of who values what and what should be preserved and what shouldn't.

  • If you work 10 hours a day and sleep 8, that's 6 hours left over for protesting. If 40 adults are going to a protest 2 can watch the kids. 1 can make soup for everyone. Same for transportation to and from protests.

    You can make it work if you prioritize.

  • This isn’t a rich dumbass like Trump. It’s always interesting to listen to him.

    Noooobody cares where the model comes from once it's already trained and being run in a sandbox.

    All he's trying to do here, is play for time to get people to stay invested in the US but move out of US businesses himself and into longer term assets like gold. He's playing the "panic" and "china bad" cards to do it. Don't believe him and divest. Do it before the US crashes.

    Install GNOME Software Flatpak plugin

    The GNOME Software plugin makes it possible to install apps without needing the command line. To install, run:

    sudo apt install gnome-software-plugin-flatpak

    I hope you can see the problem with that.

    It did read that page, it just didn't register because it's more command line stuff.

  • The population of countries are not single minded monoliths.

    The people fighting ICE now are largely the same people who have also been opposed to the US military doing the bad things they did.

    Even or particularly, among members of the military and veterans, you have hardcore loyalists of course, but you also have plenty of people who join the military because it's their ticket to a little money and an education. They know it's bad, do it anyway, and while they do have a respect for their comrades, they also know fully well that what they did was wrong and that the military is treating veterans pretty badly.

    So, there are people in the US, who ignored reality for a good while, and if and when they get hurt, I feel no sympathy.

    But there are also plenty who have been opposing or trying to improve and reform the negative aspects of US society and culture their entire life, and when they get hurt, I do feel sympathy.

    Some are still ignoring it. Prominently, former president Obama still behaves as if he's safe. Of course, I wish no harm on anyone. I do wonder if his approach is too hands off though and if it turns out it is, the best I will be able to say is "told you so".

    ...which the official instructions don't mention, so it's not a valid answer. Again, I can get it to work, but that's not the topic of this thread.

  • All the "software stores" I have seen: ubuntu's software center, flatpack are utter trash. Offensively bad. I'm not sure how you can even get the flatpack store without the terminal.

    so, e.g. flatpak tells you to install flatpak via commandline on ubuntu. Apparently it's built into linux mint.

    the instructions are to "download file and execute", but my filebrowser doesn't have a "execute this file" option in my right click and double clicking does... nothing? Certainly doesn't give me a popup with either confirmation or error message.

    I'm game to try a few more things, so if you have suggestions what I should try, please tell me.

    I'm on xubuntu.

    Wenn es funktionieren würde wäre das super. Danach machen wir aber keine Gesetze, sondern wir machen sie für die Fälle wo es eben nicht "nett" abläuft.

  • Nein. Die Ärzte fordern das niemand mit jedem kleinen Wehwehchen das sie sowieso nicht lösen können und lösen müssen zu ihnen in die Praxis kommt und sie nervt.

    Das ist zwar total nachvollziehbar, aber hilft praktisch nicht, weil der Arbeitgeber wie schon gesagt immernoch einfach einfordern kann das man trotzdem kommt.

    Anders gesagt, dein Recht zu kriegen wenn es gar nicht bedroht ist, ist eine Selbstverständlichkeit, aber es zu kriegen wenn es bedroht ist, und sich keiner dafür interessiert, das macht den Rechtsstaat aus und daran müssen wir uns orientieren.

    Genauso beim Arbeitsschutz. Es ist schön das wir auch Arbeitsschutz regelungen in Büros haben und wenn die mal schleifen ist es nicht sooo schlimm. Aber wenn der Arbeitsschutz bei ThyssenKrupp im Stahlwerk nicht stimmt, sterben Menschen.

    Also, nochmal von vorne:

    Der Arbeitgeber will das man arbeitet, man macht einen Vertrag der einen dazu VERPFLICHTET zu arbeiten, und andere lustige Dinge zu tun, wie z.b. zu schlafen damit man seine volle Arbeitsleistung dem bereitstellen kann der sie eingekauft hat.

    Wenn man krank ist, hat man ein Problem: der Arbeitgeber hat immernoch den Vertrag und will immernoch das man arbeitet. Kann er mit vor gericht gehen. Um dieses Problem zu lösen, hat man sich ausgedacht: nein, der Arbeitnehmer kann zu einen Arzt gehen (der kennt sich aus) und lässt sich SCHRIFTLICH DOKUMENTIEREN das das mit dem Arbeiten nicht geht, weil man krank ist.

    Das ist die Krankschreibung. Das man das auch wegen kleinem Scheiss machen muss, ist dumm, aber ist notwendig, weil sonst der Arbeitgeber ankommt und einen zwingt, nötigt, verklagt. Und wenn er es nicht bei mir persönlich macht, macht er es beim Kollegen, dem der nicht nein sagen kann und sich nicht wehrt.

    Was wir dann brauchen, um diese "kleinen Krankschreibungen" abzuschaffen, ist nicht das man den Leuten sagt "klärt es mit dem Chef oder so, lol, keine Ahnung, kein Plan, denk dir was aus", sondern das man gesetzlich verankert, das Arbeitnehmer einfach so das Recht kriegen sich selbst als "krank" zu deklarieren, dafür einen Zettel aus einem System kriegen, Jobcenter oder Krankenkasse, der Arbeitgeber da NICHTS tun kann und die Leute halt einfach für drei Trage, eine Woche oder zwei krank sind.

    Damit ersetzt man aber auch nicht die Krankschreibung. Sondern damit ersetzt man nur wer sie ausstellen darf.
