1 year agoI don’t know if this is exactly what you are looking for, but John D’Emilio’s Capitalism and Gay Identity is a very famous paper that argues for a historical materialist understanding of gay identity. The paper is actually fairly old (it was written in like 1983 or something), so it actually predates much of queer theory, but its absolutely still worth reading if you haven’t yet
I think for me its the fact the genocide in Palestine so blatantly evil, so obviously unjustifiable as “necessary/defensive/whatever” even by the most insane zionist depiction of what happened on 10/7 that I am genuinely surprised at the number of democrats who are able to equivocate about it, much less justify to themselves any kind of support for the israel genocide machine. Like, I knew at some level the democrats were soulless, the party elite especially, but the fact that not even the backbenchers are turned off by actively perpetrating a genocide (even after polls say that a supermajority of their base is opposed to it, which shouldn’t matter but does) is insane. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, but idk its just so hard to fathom being ok with any of this
