  • Took the batteries out of the carbon monoxide alarm because the loud beeping was giving me a headache and making me feel sick and dizzy.

  • The EU will shortly approve Bulgaria’s bid to adopt the euro as early as Jan. 1, 2026, making it the 21st member of the bloc’s currency union.

After years of waiting, several officials told POLITICO that the European Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) are expected to finally give their blessing in a report that will be published next Wednesday.

  • I guess though, UK is most suited of all western countries to play the connecting link between US and eu powers. I hope it stays far enough away from US for the sake of all Brits but i guess some form of friendship between EU and US can proof valuable later and being that 'connecting link' could give UK a chance to play world power again. Now UK brexited they should use their distance from eu for good things.

  • I feel China isn't under enough pressure, they get to play both sides. I am normally not for 'you're either with us or against us'-diplomacy but if you can't support our enemy and consider yourself neutral at the same time.

  • If the managed through the fascism in Europe (Germany, Italy, ) and Asia (Japan) last century, we might be able to get through the current wave (Russia, China and the US so far). Brazil gave me hope, after ditching their would be dictator after just a few years.

  • Voyager hides the description of cross-posts, adding a small bit here to stress the importancr this articles content:

Namibia this week will holdits first national commemoration for victims of mass killings by German occupiers in what is widely recognised as the first genocide of the 20th century, the government said.

Colonial-era German troops massacred tens of thousands of indigenous Herero and Nama people who rebelled against their rule in the southern African country between 1904 and 1908

An estimated 60,000 Herero and 10,000 Nama people were killed.

  • They apparently went with European companies first, but unfortunately it appears it didn't work out:

The move follows the deployment of 50 Yutong electric buses in the Zuid-Holland Noord concession, which began operations in December 2024. These were the first Yutong vehicles to enter service in the Netherlands, as they replaced cancelled orders for the bankrupt Van Hool.

In its press note, Qbuzz uses sharp words in direction of European OEMs: “Qbuzz has experienced that European bus manufacturers face challenges in the delivery of zero-emission equipment” reads the press release. The operator mentions delivery problems had with Iveco in addition to the quite known issues of Belgian Van Hool, having the consequence that “the delivery of 112 electric buses was cancelled. As a solution, Yutong produced and delivered 50 electric buses within six months, which perform well both technically and operationally”.

There was also a case by another Dutch bus company over an order of busses at Ebusco (🇳🇱) because of delayed delivery iirc.

  • I never saw it mean that before, but I'm not a native speaker and I agree they need to go asap :)

  • Totally agree, I think I misunderstood you because for me ICEs (intercity express) are the high-speed trains in germany; guess you meant something else

  • I don't think the onion would publish this to be honest

  • Sounds like the flixbus (or rather flixtrain model) which has been a good and a bad thing I guess. I expect competition to be a good thing for everyone unless they go and offer service below cost until the competition goes bankrupt and then abuse their new monopoly. Let's see how this plays out...

  • I do wish we had something less childish as taking away their money. Also because it is so easy to paint the eu the villain, the evil parent who decides what's best for you.

  • Trains are so much more comfortable, buses are more flexible and suited for rural areas not for long distances. But I guess the biggest difference is capacity, if you can only fill a few busses a day it wouldn't make sense to have a rail connection instead.

  • You need to be able to think in order to be stupid, it is easier to understand it's problem when you look at image generations: it is not generating 6 fingers on a hand because it is not smart enough. But yeah, a lot of people are more stupid than ai.

  • It's funny they actually made a paper about it

Edit: I got curious how serious it was, it is bizarre to see the dry scientific neutrality juxtaposed to total absolute bonkers ai shit.

So according to the ai, the supplier didn't deliver $272.50 of goods. This is how it responds:

  • Don't think they care mate

  • It's amazing, I was so convinced the previous date was set in stone /s

  • This is only funny if you think ai can reason and think, it is so obvious they can't do a string of actions on it's own - it needs guidance at every step because IT CAN NOT THINK. It just puts words together, like it generates hands with six fingers etc.

Edit: I'm not implying everything has to be funny here

  • In a perfect world you can do both because a society has a very wide range of sources of income, but in the end it actually is a zero sum game.
