  • I think the irony here is that the user-friendliness experience of Bluesky stems from it being a centralized service (in practice). I seriously doubt most people who signed up for Bluesky even understand what "decentralized social media" means.

I'm not saying Lemmy (and the greater Fediverse) can't improve, but it's clear that the biggest barrier for most people is the decentralized aspect itself -- the core of the Fediverse -- which is something one shouldn't really "hide".

As long as the state of social media usership demands centralized practices, then the Fediverse will forever be at a disadvantage in gaining mass adoption in my opinion.

  • I finished The Tatami Galaxy last week. It's timely as I'm graduating next year and I have some regrets with my university life. Tatami Galaxy is a great show to cope with that. Masaaki Yuasa's style is incredible by the way. Maybe at some point I'll watch all of his works. If anyone here is a fan of DAN DA DAN, you should watch Yuasa.

  • Interestingly, NHK ni Youkoso is about moe, or at least it's a major point of the show (otaku and moe). I hope you enjoy it. It's one of my favorite anime.

  • I've caught up with the English translation of Asako.

I really like it. The first few pages might deter a lot of people but I think the author handles the age gap relationship quite well and the other themes in the book like sexuality, preadolescence, memories, adulthood, etc. I expected the entire story to revolve around the relationship of the two but it extends far past that.

Depending on how it goes from here, it might be up there with my other all time favorites like Flowers of Evil and Three Days of Happiness.

Maybe I'll put up a post comparing it with "My Boy" some day as they're both similar situations but handled differently.

  • I didn't realize you've been posting Asako here! I just wrote about it in the weekly thread. I just stumbled upon it while my friend and I were browsing Mangadex the other day lol. I'll try to catch up when I can!

  • Wow I'm happy I clicked on this. The animation is so good.

  • I have no idea. The DLCs you can buy from Steam or Epic (or get the bundle).

  • This is the way. Civ 6 is so cheap when it goes on sale now. I bet it's a more complete game than Civ 7 too but I might be wrong.

  • I finally found a new read that I might like. It's called Asako. It's an age gap manga so it might not be for everyone but I've read a few before (My Boy and After the Rain). It has a bit of mystery to it and the plot is non-linear so that makes it more enjoyable for me. Anyway, for those interested, it's about a man who reminisces a woman he met when he was a young boy set in a small coastal town. Her identity is a mystery however. I'm only a few chapters in and I like it so far.

  • I was surprised when my friend casually brought up Pixelfed (he called it "Pixelfeed") and Bluesky the other day.

  • I don't listen to pop music much but hip hop has been popular in Korea for a long time now. Same with neighboring East Asian and Southeast Asian countries. I guess they're just not nearly as popular overseas but they're mainstream enough locally you'll hear it wherever you go.

edit: Other than music, hip hop dance and fashion was pretty popular too at least when I was in high school.

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion. I remember reading somewhere that every anime since NGE is just a spin-off of NGE lol

  • Kind of reminds me of "Class of 09".

  • Oh boy I have a lot but the one that stands out is Paprika. It's the only Satoshi Kon film I haven't seen. I don't know when I'm ready to watch it yet.

  • You can use LibRedirect to redirect to invidious or piped

  • Yeah I think Stevem makes clickbaity titles too. His anime director video series are titled "THE [DIRECTOR'S NAME] PROBLEM" which made me hestitant to watch. But after watching the Love & Pop segment in his Hideaki Anno video, I realized he does his research surprisingly well.

  • Actually he does mention Deedlit (Record of Lodoss War) a lot throughout the video. He mentions Wizardy in the beginning too.

  • Got it! Get lots of sleep, it's New Year soon!

  • Yup. Baka (stupid) -> baagaa (burger)
