  • Definitely this one. Simple design and the fine point is so smooth to write with

  • You can reinstall a driver without ever touching the command line on windows.

Can you do that with Linux? Idk maybe on some distros but the default would just be to uninstall the package from terminal.

Pretending these are equivalent is not cool and it just drives new users away for not understanding things the community takes for granted. It takes effort to learn the terminal if even tech-savvy windows users may not even use the command line

  • Personally I believe that unless you're able to do a slackware or gentoo installation, you're not ready for Linux.

    /s but only kinda

Linux users need to have a higher level of technical literacy than windows users. It just can't be avoided unless you're okay with potentially reinstalling your os at some point. The bar has been lowered a lot, but because other companies refuse to play nice with Linux, it'll always be there.

If you're okay with that tradeoff, then yeah Linux is great. But a lot of people aren't even aware of it and it causes a lot of pain

  • I have found AI to be a terrible primary source. But something I've found very useful is to ask for a detailed response, structured a certain way. Then tell the AI to grade it as a professor would. It actually does a very good job at acknowledging gaps and giving an honest grade then.

AI shouldn't be a primary source but it's great for starting a topic. Similar to talking to someone that's moderately in the know on something you interested in

  • This is absolutely absurd. People have a right to a lawful assembly.

Anyone supporting this guy is insane. Literally trying to become an emperor

  • Just wondering, what qualifies as cheap for you?

  • Maybe, but that would defeate the purpose.

Tails is secure because it is a packaged distribution that allows you to do a lot of stuff privately, like browse, email, download, and upload.

Installing a video game doesn't break the other stuff; you can still do that. But that additional software is an avenue for malicious actors to get in to your system, that the tailsOS team didn't test

  • About $5.50 for a dozen of the brown, non-organic ones. Kinda middle-tier. This is central texas btw.

    Similar pricing in SE Michigan

  • This is going to be lemmy history. Omg that was so funny

  • Where/when was this? Seems like a cool hike

  • I just started reading the dune series, after watching the movies, and I'm having a great time with it! Somehow the books do a better job of detailing the conversations between all the different characters, and setting the stage for movie 2.

  • Reading this thread, i think lemmy has a real problem. There sre a few comments that appear centrist or left-leaning, but the majority of comments are extremely left.

I'm not asking for neo-nazis or far right, just more centrist opinions like in this thread

  • I think there are some conservative opinions that are worth discussing. For one example, I've seen conservatives talk frequently about protecting children from an increasingly secular world. Comparitvely, that topic rarely comes up in normal lemmy topics.

Truth be told, I generally am progressive on this, but I sometimes wish I could discuss this with someone whom I may disagree with, so I could better understand where I would stand

  • This is bad for the health of lemmy though, I think. A discussion board/framework should be politically neutral, while still employing rules on hate speech based on the voice of the masses.

If you want to talk hate speech, I've seen numerous accounts on lemmy instances of people advocating for murder or other violence against "billionaires" or anyone with a significant wealth. Or same with right-wing ideals, I've seen users advocating similar broad calls for violence based on pretty poor assumptions against the entire right-wing USA block.

  • Just wondering, what kind of business's use a radio repeater like that? I had thought most radios were used for airlines, or public services

  • Chiming in, Michigan has variables rates depending on time of day, and range from $0.12-$0.18 per kWh

  • I've never actually tasted soap, so i have no idea if i actually like the cilantro flavor or the soap flavor
