  • So you're saying you can't use this distribution of windows but another better distro? Sounds familiar

  • a lot of people should probably stop depending on skinner box shooter slop for their recreation but idk I don't make the rules.

  • I didn't know what a linux was until 2022 when I installed kubuntu for kicks and then stayed on it because I didn't know how to format the USB drive for windows.

Still trying to figure out how to get back to windows

    I'm stuck here.

  • then you are the one who has to integrate with everyone

Which is why the whole "use what works" shtick is bullshit. I didn't choose my computer for some personal gain, I did it for pure politics and most firms are too lazy to stop themselves from getting robbed by tech companies anyway.

Whole industry was born with its hand in somebody else's pocket.

  • Probably would work for geo-spoofing, but in most cases mullvad vpns haven't been blocked so much.

You can roll out your own vpn quite easily with something like tailscale and route all your traffic through your home machine.

  • Mullvad disabled port forwarding, so you are essentially kneecapped while torrenting as some private trackers require participants to port forward and being stuck as a leecher isn't fun.

  • Airvpn has port forwarding and goes on sale during seasonal holidays.

Use mullvad if you know you aren't going to torrent at all and just want IP spoofing with performance.

Don't use free vpns or other companies, they literally could be Israeli mossad fronts.

Proton CEO is a NATO liberal.

  • Funny like how the authors most noted problem is that proprietary software is hard to find and doesnt work well in a free operating system.

  • The ROK is a perfect copy of Kiev's lunatics.

Say it louder for those who think president KJU shouldn't have ceased reunification. Unironically a "hate the government, not the people."

  • This app looks disgusting why is the main content centered with dead space on top.

    Figma balls.

  • About fedora and Red Hat, Red Hat isn't involved in the vast majority of fedora project decisions (they don't even contribute to feature development nowadays). Red Hat is a fedora downstream, not the other way around. Red Hat has an interest in not shoveling their shit into fedora or they lose their testing base. Projects like universal blue are then another layer of separation removed.

Sucks, which is why I wouldn't fault anyone for choosing otherwise, but Fedora is very much where all the innovation in the desktop happens first.

  • I'd spend my entire life making labubus if I got to live in Pyongyang afterward.

  • You'll have to install guix through their binary tarball install from their website or compile from source. The Debian package issue was due to Debian's policy of only shipping tagged releases and guix became a rolling release a long time ago, it was basically only a matter of time it was removed since you'd self update your guix after installing it from Debian's repos anyway.

You might be interested in fedora atomic (bootc) and subsequently universal blue as those allow you to declaratively set your system as an image and be able to switch from one image to the next. Imagine docker but for your whole operating system. In fact the most popular operating system in terms of growth right now is Bazzite which uses this technology to ship updates to their users that will never break their systems.

I'd only recommend using lix as a last resort, I was using nix for 3 years now, before the crisis of leadership so its difficult for me to climb out.

  • "Applications should decide what middle click does"

"Have you considered you are the literally hitler of linux for doing this?!"

  • Really you have two choices, either derivations (guix/lix) and containerization (podman/docker/bootc). Nixpkgs provides the implementation for NixOS and their own technical leadership is materially tied to that. You can avoid the nazi bar effectively by never using flakes (fash technology) and using Lix and also putting trans flags on everything like a sigil (half-serious on that last part).

I recommend looking into Guix first, one of my professors uses Guix on top of Debian (Debian for the system base, Guix for the project management and home environment). You can try Guix System but that's very much a rolling release that can move slowly (and doesn't have things like systemd). Both nixpkgs and guix can produce docker images or pack into formats like flatpak.

Whatever you do, do not use nix flakes, they are a dead-end format made by chuds for chuds. Don't even use nix-command (new nix CLI) either. That shit was the material backbone to all the community crises in NixOS.

  • To be perfectly clear, anyone buying new GPUs already to crank their gamer slop to 4K should also be in the gamer gulag.

You can play deltarune on no more than a 8th gen Intel CPU and that's being very gamerbrained (a lot of games can be played even before that)

  • I love not being able to schedule an appointment either because I didn't verify I existed yet to their buggy ass site (which requires you to either submit a selfie (didn't work) or go to the post office. Luckily there's a SS (pun intended) office a little farther than the closest one to me that should be less busy with parking.

  • I am, so either I dropped off the radar somehow or they vibe coded the gov site and holy fuck... they probably did. The only gov sites that work are the ones that look like they came from when the internet was just starting, now they all look like facebook login pages.

I like that they mention searching in "proprietary" records. It's authoritarian to actually have complete records of your citizens, make sure Geico or Blackrock handles that.
