  • I dropped NixOS finally, no more anduril palantir corporate slop OS for me.

    There's really nothing good in NixOS, derivations just means your build system is now just consumed by a monolithic discount haskell DSL that is a high level interface to sandboxed bash scripts (Yes that is what Nix is, high level bash) that depends on a 50MB tarball and software needs to be patched to support NixOS. That and the entire community somehow believing that depending on "flakes" was a good idea and anyone trying to say otherwise is just ostracized. NixOS is all brights lights but it's actually a burnout simulator that chews people up and spits them out. Also needing to use GitHub all the time was taking its toll.

    Back to Fedora, turns out being under a Red Hat IBM sponsor doesn't actually determine how good people's politics are because NixOS had no sponsor and it was a nazi bar.

    . OCI is a superior approach and flatpak is far better for both users and maintainers.

    Happy to start enjoying my computer again, NixOS is a nightmare.

    The STF regularly gives grants to various projects to focus on areas such as security and accessibility which maintainers often lack the necessary resources to focus on. The previous grant recipients include systemd, GNOME, OpenSSL, Curl, Pipewire among many others. This has been going on for a long time. Providing half a million euros to improve Arch Linux is not a backdoor scheme.

    You should be ashamed of yourself for posting Lunduke, do better next time (or maybe do a simple 10 second background check of your sources next time).

  • It turns out KDE Plasma 5 was released before Windows 10, and the "infamous" GNOME 3 was released before Windows 8.

    Did Windows legit just steal from KDE and GNOME for design?

    GNOME 3 came out April 6, 2011; Windows 8's UI debuted with its consumer preview in February 2012 and then officially released on October 26, 2012, a full 16 months later. If anything, Windows 8 copied GNOME 3.

Capitalists fed into the open source counter movement explicitly to defang free software, you'll see Linus torvalds in the California computer history museum but not Richard stallman whose work on GCC and the GPL allowed Linux to actually succeed in the first place.

    Its the Chomsky effect where torvalds will speak truth to power when it affects him and isn't intentionally trying to be dishonest for selfish gain. But you have to wonder why all the capitalists are happy spreading his name around specifically.

    Mozilla is missing the forest for the trees when LLMs are just the way for silicon valley to financialize access to information, the technology itself doesn't matter, just how it gives these corporations an excuse to move money around.

  • Its also easier to direct action scene slop then have to write dialogue for characters. The show is meticulously going through all the "fallout" brand signifiers so that it can feel fallout but the story is basically just a carnival ride through sets.

    The set design and production quality is alright slop though so I'm still eating this shit.
