  • Sure, but tech bros manage to balance being idiots and influence pretty well. And for the most part, tech people prefer things that are both a money flex and perceived easing friction. Even even they don't.

Reading HN is a constant surprise at how willingly tech people willingly don't hold back anything. It's nuts.

  • Tech people have zero idea what privacy is or should be, and desperately look for anything to make then feel elites. Paying for Kagi is a flex.

Kagi is fine, but it certainly not magic.

Qwant, Startpage, and SearXNG work well.

Ecosia is DDG (which is Bing results) as a non-profit.

Mojeek...ugh, you stupid but nice guy. You'll get there one day.

  • I recently started what's probably my 15th account for a single topic. Same exact thing happened to me.

  • Fair point - these were 2 separate thoughts. First, Big Brother is the face scowling down at us all, right out of the book. Second, that the US is right now a surveillance state and this is one of the more visible aspects of the virtue signaling and telling people to love the Great Leader.

  • People who don't mainline political news genuinely don't get this.

It's literally Big Brother. This is a surveillance state telling you how to do everything.

  • Yessss.

    Give in to your fear.

  • I'm marginally happy that anyone anywhere is in love. Cool beans.

Beyond that, I'd rather see people I know have happy and healthy lives. FSM knows they deserve it just as much as these two.

  • Yeah, no shit

  • Well, technically Android IS a type of Linux.

But your solution is to not use the smart functions of a Smart TV. Do a factory reset of your TV and get some sort of external device like an Amazon Fire Stick or Apple TV or Raspbery pi or even a Linux Laptop. Treat your TV like a monitor for a small computer. Relying on the TV is the worst possible scenario.

  • They'll never think about it like that. Even though Ruby Ridge happened under Bush 41, the Weavers are all insane about Democrats. Even though most of them would suggest 9/11 was an Inside Job to pass the Patriot Act, under Bush 43, it was all Obama to blame for anything bad. Even though Trump banned bump stocks, it's the Dems that love gun control (which they rarely ever actually pass). Even though James Brady was Reagan's press secretary, the Brady Bill passed under Clinton right after Waco happened and the ATF made taking guns a national obsession with those people.

  • When I had a dualboot, that's how I ordered it.

  • Maybe if we eat more cephalopods, our eyes will turn into their good eyes?

    That's how that works, right?

  • The worst part is the Contributor Quality Score, which is the subjective version of karma.

If you're not a bot, then you have to spend a lot of real time producing acceptable content to get to do anything YOU want to do. You literally have to grind Reddit to be able to post in some subs, even if your account is older than the hills and has positive karma.

  • Isn't it amazing that Reddit Gold was actually one of their better ideas to derive income from users?

  • This article gets it.

The default to governments like this is an invasive surveillance state. To not implement full invasive data collection and simply forbid minors from being online is to be in the wrong.

  • I'm as disappointed as you are.

I served that up like a 9 patty burger!

  • Is it free?

Sounds like if anything, the shirt is $8 and $21.99 is the burger.

  • Kids, the internet tells me that I can get 10 regular Wendy's cheeseburgers for $27.90

So it a $2 upcharge for them to use less bread and pay the marketing team.

  • $30/9 is $3.33 for just 1 cooked patty and cheese. So each of these DIY burgers of yours is maybe $3.50 -$4

How much is just a single a Wendy's cheeseburger? Edit: looks like under $3

    So marketing scam confirmed.
