  • It's a good option for those wanting to use YouTube. In my case, I just avoid it where I can. I'm not going to fight against a content creator. If he wants to make videos for algorithm garbage it's because he doesn't respect audience like me. He doesn't have to make what I like, I don't have to watch it. It's just annoying that from time to time I fall prey to a video trough Lemmy.

    I use newpipe by the way. YouTube itself is blocked on my browser. But I use it too rarely to bother with more blockers.

    Either way that just makes a shitshow even worse. The only hope of the internet is smaller areas like Lemmy. And even that is being destroyed. The amount of ai slop I see on the front page is increasing, and it's not their fault. They took the content from a cesspool like Facebook and didn't realise what it was. Even I saw many things and I didn't realise it was a fake. And when I do, it make me want to use the internet less.

    Maybe it's the whole internet doomed.

    I used to make Blender videos back in the day. I loved when people liked what I did or wanted to learn. Charging money for it would destroy the magic and make it a job and eventually I would make garbage like this to maximise the profit.

    I deleted my YouTube account when I realised what it was becoming. I had no idea it would actually get much, much, much worse than I could ever imagine.

    Before I would hang up and look for another one, but I realise now that the cancer has taken total control.

    Airbnb, Amazon, this shit.... Only someone insane would refuse to bend to our benevolent overlords, and I am still insane, putting up a fight I already lost.

  • The subject is so interesting, but I forgot how cancerous and disgusting YouTube videos became. I rarely watch videos on it anymore.

    The stupid doll stuff, the advertisers, the unnecessary fluff... Even the most interesting subjects become unwatchable. I would like to watch a video with just the comparisons, which are pretty cool.

    In other news, try Krita and node based video editors that run natively in Linux.

    But sequence based editors... Yeah, it's tough. There is Kdenlive and Blender, but for serious jobs it make it difficult.

    I would say adobe is the biggest stone on Linux shoes. The brainwashed with their office braking compatibility would be easily fixed just ditching microsoft, gamers just don't want to switch to something that works. But adobe, with all their patents are a big issue. The moment a real alternative comes up they will sue.

    I literally changed jobs to not have to deal with adobe.

    But Krita is pretty good.

  • If it's completely offline and the banking thing can be completely disabled it's awesome.

    I would love to know the softwares (and their dependencies) I use more so then I can decide how to donate myself. The dependencies being a big thing. Like on android I use syncthing fork, which would be nothing without syncthing. And there may be other essential stuff running on boot that I don't know and should help.

    No. That's what I don't want. If it was a company I trusted I would, but good luck with that. Mozilla is not that company anymore, even if they had the resources to host their own.

    But locally or in a server I trust? That would be awesome. AI is awesome, but not the people who runs it.

  • To complement the above reply, although you paid a lot for the car, you're paying even more daily, giving many away to very nasty companies that will turn your investment against you to increase their profit. Your data will be sold and you're donating money to billionaires.

    Is that what you want? Are you happy to have ads on a windows install you already paid, for example?

    Because that's what you're doing. If you got a massive discount on account of the daily extra profit you'll give them I would understand. But if not, why be so charitable to people who don't deserve it?

  • That would be awesome. Like a greasemonkey/advanced unlock for those of us who don't know how to code. So many times I wanted to customise a website but I don't know how or it's not worth the effort.

    But only of it was local, and specially on mobile, where I need the most, it will be impossible for years...

    I have my super with australian ethical and banking with great southern bank, but I'm sure both still invest in israeli companies and the like. If anyone have better suggestions I'd love to hear. From my researches I couldn't find much.

    I'm much more worried about helping criminals get richer than to make a profit.

  • It's a vicious cycle when you're depressed. Internet helps to ignore the horrible life you want to forget, but it also ensures your life stay horrible. I've been there. When you're not on the internet draining your brain you feel much worse.

    Some people use alcohol or drugs instead. I'm just coming out of 4 months like that and I don't know what I could have done instead, when you just don't have the will to do anything, not even to kill yourself. Internet doesn't require any will.
