  • In Germany we have a strong social welfare program open for everyone and yet there are still people living on the streets. We have state-sponsored street workers going around and trying to help. There is only so much you can do. Some people will refuse any help offered to them.

The only way to get them off the streets is to put them in jail, which wouldn't be OK either.

  • Damn, boy! That's a big ass music collection.

  • Oh nein!

  • Luckily software can be transmitted from anywhere in the world via a thing called "download", so the developer can be in another country that doesn't attempt to become a dystopian censorship state.

  • If there would be hard evidence they would be out of business already, so obviously no.

  • If they would truly care about privacy they would promote open protocols, auditable code and encourage users to hold their own keys, instead of storing the keys of their users and shipping their code dynamically via JavaScript.

Their entire technology stack is built in a way to be able to target individual users.

  • IIRC Proton doesn't offer any access to their mail server using standard protocols (POP3, IMAP)...

  • How do you manage to keep your PGP keys locally with Protonmail?

  • The joke is on you here. Proton is a locked-in CIA honeypot and everybody knows it.

  • Did anybody ever doubt this?

  • That's a hilariously distopian story turn.

  • Thanks for your work! Unfortunately Gitlab doesn't display anything without JavaScript so I can't read up about it.

  • Maybe it's time to go back to BBSes. This whole internet thing kinda sucks now.

Try permanently disabling JavaScript. It will break most sites but what remains is a largely peaceful experience.

  • Next browser on desktop will be one that has intentionally no JS support. If I'm making compromises I might as well go all the way through. 😅

  • There is also Firefox Focus which us basically a stripped down fennec. I use it as my default browser with JS disabled.
