i do not know where you get that impression. antisemitism, conspiracy theories and general racism are soooo common if you just browse one of the public feeds on primal, ditto etc. not to mention like 1 in 5 posts are just bitcoin posting.
we do have instances of fascist chuds on ActivityPub, but they're at least a little less easy to run into if you go to our equivalent of a public firehose like mastodon.social.
i will say there's parts of the nostr protocol i prefer over ActivtyPub, but you'll never catch me anywhere near that nazi bar
bang-on. given he's going to continue working on the project, the payday I'm a bit dubious of.
EDIT:
honestly it continues to back up the opinion i've had of Eugen's leading of mastodon for a long time. dubious, i wish he'd focus less on growth, but ultimately we could have done so much worse with our BDFL (well, not so much for life anymore lol)
taking money from the crypto industry isn't a requirement to work on an open source project in a meaningful way. i would know, i maintain a well known open-source project in the same ecosystem for which we receive a grant (and so do they! they're receiving from the same fund). and previously we worked for multiple years on our project around regular jobs. yes we could reach out for better funding opportunities working with people we don't agree with, but we have a moral backbone lol.
if you read the "proof of forestry" Google groups link authored by Christine you'll see she's not looking at (or working with) the crypto industry in any kind of useful context.
edit:
i'm sorry if this reply comes off as a bit hostile. i'm just tired of so much of the software industry being spineless complaining about how shit companies are while actively contributing to them because it comes with a nice round paycheck.
just a reminder that spritely has ties to the crypto industry. the protocol they're based on is developed and used between themselves and a crypto company, Agoric.
applications run under Termux will have direct access to the phone (though heavily locked down). the Linux terminal being introduced to android runs in a VM which is more secure, but which comes with a certain level of performance overhead
i think the DPRK is the only on that list i don't hold positive opinions about, or really any at all. everything i "know" on it is typical western propaganda so i try to keep my opinions open
yeah i've had my eye on hexbear for a while. if Lemmy weren't so resource intensive i'd run a personal instance myself, but looks like hexbear is probably where i'll end up (assuming they accept me :p)
man "leaked private messages" is such a weak fucking excuse in the face of transphobia. @nutomic@lemmy.ml you realize you're just alienating a huge fucking number of comrades? not just trans people, but all those that rightfully stand with us too.
edit:
nutomic you absolutely can come back from this if you don't double down. accept your shit, and work on it. and you know what that would be great to see, there's not enough of that in the world.
if not then @dessalines@lemmy.ml and other core devs, i think you have a tough decision to make. i absolutely do not envy you. though do keep in mind that handling this correctly will solidify even tighter community support behind the Lemmy project.
we need more good comrades behind ActivityPub development :p
I disagree, the judge declared the sentence time hinged on the girl being the ringleader of the two and specifically targeting the victim (at least partially) out of transphobia. it was only the cops that said it wasn't related to transphobia, and frankly the cops in this country have a shite reputation for being transphobic themselves so chances they'd look over that are high.
man these AI fanatics are cringe
