  • Felt like a gacha game adaptation and a tourism ad wrapped into one. The characters didn't seem to have more than one character trait each and we never really learn anyone's motivations other than "I want to hurry up and become a witch" and "I want to take good pictures". A lot of the plot felt like a video game tutorial, which is especially bad since it doesn't seem like this has a game tie-in. The musical number was fine for what it was, but it was hard to tell what they were accomplishing with it since the customer of the week didn't have very well defined problems. Overall, I give this premiere a 1/5.

  • I really liked this one. MAPPA's animation on the parkour scenes was absolutely fantastic and the whole episode was a delight to watch. Because the premise seems so heavily intertwined in political and ethical philosophy I do worry about what the show is trying to say, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now because it just looks so good. I'm really excited for this one and give the premiere a 5/5.

Also, I've heard people complain about the english dub, and I didn't really have any issues with it. The dialogue is a little cringy, but like, that's just kinda how anime goes and it gives a different vibe to read cringy dialogue vs hear it. I also felt like the flat-ish performances were done on purpose to give the show a bit of a mellow vibe (the japanese voices seemed to be fairly similar, IMO)

  • This was way cuter than I was expecting. Sophia is likeable and seems like a strong lead (I mean personality wise, but also physically I guess, lol). The boys are all very handsome and that's a plus, but they also seem like good dudes without being just reverse harem archetypes (though they could turn out that way later, since we don't know them too well yet), and it's been fun trying to guess people's animal blessings since they don't say them outright. The plot has sort of yet to unfold at all, so it remains to be seen if that's any good, but I really like this so far. I give the premiere a 4/5.

  • I have very mixed feelings on this one. I found the main couple very cute and endearing, but the show seemed so focused on the comedy beats which never really hit for me. I love a good childhood friends, bodyguard/ward, or magician/familiar dynamic, but I was disappointed by how gag-focused this was instead of on the heart that seemed to be in there. I give the premiere a 3/5, and if people say it's turning out amazing, I might return to it.

Amazing OP, though. I'd watch that anime, lol.

  • I only watched the first episode, but jeez, this feels like school shooter anime. Our main character's backstory feels like it's tailor-made to strike at otaku/weeb's worst fears (getting cucked, getting told they're not a good enough man, not being successful at work, having to pay child support) in a way that feels really pandery. And main character is on his deathbed talking about how he's such a nice guy and he should have just been an asshole instead, when he basically had no character traits before that point. Like, I'm all for villain stories, they can be really fun, but trying to soften them by giving them a tragic backstory IMO just ruins it. Post-isekai, the cast gives off a distinct "we have shadow-sama at home", too, which isn't great. Overall, I give the premiere a 2/5.

  • Not impressed with this one. It felt like creepy wish fulfillment for guys who want much-younger women students to be in love with them for being such a good teacher. Most of the plot was bland and generic and the harem nonsense was way to prevalent, but at least the action was fairly well done. I give the premiere a 2/5.

  • Not really sure how I feel about this one yet. I've heard they rushed through the source material to put the hook in episode one, which I'm glad for because it's definitely the only thing keeping me around for episode two, but the story still felt like it was going very slowly. I'm hoping it ramps up a bit and we get more strange and creepy things and a few more crumbs of clues as to what's really going on, but the slow slice of life stuff doesn't really do it for me. I give the premiere a 3/5 and I'll give it a couple episodes to find its footing.

  • Maybe it's just my grudge against what I'd call "english class fiction" but I had a hard time getting into the story here. It just felt very slow and boring to me, and I found Anne's energy to be exhausting. The visuals are stunning and the whole anime feels well-made, but it's just not really for me. I feel like the Anne of Green Gables fans are probably very happy with this adaptation. I give the premiere a 4/5 on production values alone, but I won't be back for episode 2.

  • I generally distrust manga from this era, since they tend to go on forever without any plot development (this is Detective Conan's author after all), but so far this is very fun! Wit Studio knows what they're doing with the action scenes, and the characters feel well-defined and funny without showing their age too much. I give the premiere a 4/5.

Also, I've decided to believe that the dads have a romantic history because they definitely give off that vibe, lol.

  • I sort of hate that the main character seems to not be that good of a detective and the butler is doing the work for her. It also feels like we didn't get enough information to put the pieces together in this mystery, but I guess we'll see next episode when they give us the solution. It's really hard to make an assessment on mystery shows without seeing a case wrap up, but with just the premiere I'll give it a tentative 3/5.

  • I generally don't like music/band anime and this turned out not to be an exception. It seems fine, but it felt like most of the episode was very slow. It also seems pretty queerbait-y since I've heard the source material is not gay (yet?) but they definitely want us to think it is. I give the premiere a 3/5.

  • I wasn't expecting to like this, but it ended up being pretty charming. Obviously the first episode's plot was very expected (with a title like that, it's hard to pull too many surprises right off the bat), though I was pleasantly surprised that the sisters are on good terms, even though they're clearly scapegoat and golden child and that can breed resentment on both sides. I think there's a lot of promise here, be it as shoujo slop or something of more complex character - and to be clear, either is fine with me as long as it's fun, lol. I give the premiere a 4/5.

  • I feel like I've watched this anime a million times already. There's nothing new here, and it's not even doing well at the tropes it's using. I give the premiere a 2/5.

Also, he's two years old and just learned to walk and hasn't said a single word, despite being an adult man internally.

  • It's good to be back, though the flaw in starting a plot arc one episode before the season ends is that it's hard to remember what was happening by the time the show comes back, lol

  • There were a few times that I thought this was going to get interesting, in a few different ways, but it always seemed to take the blandest option when progressing the plot. The action was really lackluster (I laughed out loud when Jinta's arm was cut off because it looked like it just popped off for no reason) and the story felt like it was edgy for the sake of being edgy. I'm curious what kind of show this will be once it settles in (ep 1 was very much a prologue so I'm guessing we'll figure that out in ep 2), but I'm not hopeful. I give the premiere a 2/5

Also, the moral of the story appeared to be "never trust someone who's different from you, even if they are a literal child" which is, uh.... something....

  • I think this premise can work, but this feels very fumbled. A tearjerker-of-the-week format doesn't really need the buildup this got - just jump right in to Meg helping people out and fill in the why later (hell, that could be its own tearjerker episode). Instead it has this wonky tone that isn't really conducive to making me cry. I give the premiere a 2/5, but it's possible it could right the ship and end up being a great show (I'll check back in later in the season)

Also, 1000 tears in a year is WAY too many to take seriously if she only gets one per person. She's seriously supposed to average almost 3 people crying with pure joy per day?

  • Pretty standard kicked-from-the-hero's-party wish fulfillment slop. It feels a lot like it's trying to be Last Dungeon Boonies (but with trade skills), but it's just a bit lacking. I give the premiere a 3/5.

  • Regardless of caring about Jinshi's feelings, it seems clear that the emperor recognizes Maomao's usefulness and probably understands that she'd be much more effective with the power and access she'd be granted if she became the emperor's sister-in-law, lol.

  • Went through all the OPs EDs for this season (and tried not to be too biased against the shows I didn't end up liking, lol). Here are my favorites:

    OPs

    • Bureaucrat to Villainess has a lot of energy and expresses its emotions very well
    • Fruitsmaster goes way harder than it has any right to, considering the quality of the show itself. This is one of those OPs that can trick someone into wasting time watching a show that doesn't deserve it
    • Apothecary Diaries delivers yet another amazing OP, which my light novel reading friend says is full of interesting visual references we'll understand later. It also has wet Jinshi
    • Medalist conveys the motion of skating really well and makes me wish I enjoyed the show, lol
    • Sorairo Utility uses colors and cuts to match the bounciness of the melody really well and the whole thing has a fun vibe

    EDs

    • Bureaucrat to Villainess does a really fun after-work karaoke
    • Honey Lemon Soda does a good job giving the vibe of hanging out with friends taking dumb pictures
    • Medalist reflects the more childish side of the main character with a cute little dream
    • Solo Leveling constructs a very sinister vibe that gives the impression of a much more psychological/thriller type thing than the impression I have of the show itself (I only watched a few episodes). Not sure how well it matches, but the ED in isolation is great
    • Red Ranger gives a view into a little what-if that has a very comfy vibe
