Imagine if Nokia pushed Snake as hard as Microsoft is pushing AI.
Lots of tech and science is super cool. Time dilation and its compensation is incredible. I don't want that to be the main focus of my phone or OS, but I'm glad we use it for GPS satellites. It's not a multi trillion dollar industry that should take up a sizable chunk of energy usage, nor should it be a large percent of US GDP.
Of all of the sports to make fun of, surely, surely NASCAR or something is lower hanging fruit.
F1 has had some pretty neat innovation actually come to road cars in the past decades and has some amount of continued materials engineering that's fairly cutting edge. Also, of all the things to make fun of, leaking oil is really infrequent. Just for the fun fact, the engine-on time of an F1 car has less emissions per year than a one way flight from NY to London
It isn't great for the environment of course, but it's just a funny one when there's a LOT better things to rip on.
Oh I don't read much for news. A local paper (which is in a language I barely know), a little on here but most in blocked, and The Onion type publications sometimes.
I still can't imagine that a news source says "there's not news now, have some piano" in 2025
There was a day, 18th April 1930, where the BBC reported no news. It really shocks me because of how different the times are now. I can't imagine there's any minute that doesn't have dozens news stories running
I moved to Denmark, so I'm learning danish now. It's one of the languages of all times for sure. Pronunciation is hyper specific and very different than the written words.
But, depending on the day, getting there. I deal with a lot more of it at work than most in my situation, so it's expediting my learning (and a massive imbalance to my free time)
So that's a great picture I think for the difference between the loan durations.
I of course think the real problem is that average people might need a 50 year loan to barely pay for a house these days. But it isn't "nothing" between the terms, it does help in the super short term
Oh man I love games that are just games. You pay a price, you get a game, you play the game.
On the turn based side we have Slay the Spire, Slice and Dice, and Lost in Fantaland. All kind deck builders but with pretty different combat. Great games with lots of depth. Also Kingdoms Two Crowns by Raw Fury is an incredibly good game. But a little more real time. I can say great things about all of them.
On the heavier note, fucking Subnautica has a mobile port now, which I hear is good. Of course you have Stardew Valley for a farming sim.
On the annoyingly spammy with pay to win features but still good games underneath, all the Ironhide games are good, especially the tower defense ones (Kingdom Rush)
Yeah, I feel like engineering has firmly held the place it "should" across many many societies. Rarely anything other than a respectable middle/upper middle ground, but generally considered necessary and important.
Come on societies just let us run the place for a little. You'll see a lot more trains
I guess it just proves how integrated germ theory is to at least me now. Like if I have something on my hands I want to wash it off, but I need to wash it off before I eat or touch my eye or anything like that.
Also doctors are a weird thing class wise, because they require a ton of schooling and smarts. But also back then, it was pretty "dirty" (if not hard) work
Yeah, I'm a little surprised by this too. Maybe it's like 9.9% and 10.1% or something?
