  • Nowadays gentoo already offers binary packages natively, if the user wants them ( https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_Binary_Host_Quickstart ). Default is sill to compile locally. But for large packages like libreoffice or browsers the binary packages are nice.

But i can see the benefit for new users in getting sth pre configured. For this to be long term usefull though, the documentation is crucial. Maybe just offering the guide to this specific install or how it differs from the standard install manual, like sakakis install guide (sadly defunct).

  • Verify the commands by looking them up in the docimentation. So if the advice is to run foo --bar afile first do man foo or foo --help and check what the command does and what option --bar does.

Good documentation, i esepicially like the gentoo docs and also the arch docs for this, will specifically say run this command where these options are added to do a thing.

Don't run anything where you don't know what it will do based on the docukentation, so not based on the surrounding text where you are copying froom saying trust me bro.

But of course this can end up being a lot of effort and is just a long way of saing rtfm.

  • This type of attack is also a risk for novice linux users, who tend to paste things in the terminal they do not understand.

  • Buffer the input in a battery then use dc out from the battery to power your lights, no flickering. No need to reconfigure the entire grid and every device on it for niche applications.

  • little use in an 8k tv if there is no convinient content

  • This is what i was told once upon a time. But upon actual research it sadly appears not. At least the newspaper is not on the list of properties of the asahi holdings that owns the beer company. (for some reason i am not able to paste the link onypjone)

  • even more amazing that the news vorp belongs to the beermaker of the same name

Efit: This actually doesnt appear to be true :(

  • horrible site, keeps reloading showing adds

  • okular supports signing. But you have to set up your signing certificate outside it and then point it at the certificate database in the backend settings. Creating a signing certificate in adobe, saving that to a file, registering that file with nsdb, setting nsdb as backend in okular, works. Only have to do the setup obcr, then just works.

  • its not as bad as it sounds. But it is the other side of the coin of academic freedom. You can do what you want, but that just means i end up wanting to do everything and then of course failing to finish evreything. But i have learned the solution is to find collaborators, and to accept that some things will simply not get done. The only problem is that the things that do not get done are sometimes important, even if they are not the most interesting (such as filing travel reimbursement forms). TL:DR no worries but do think carefully before going for a phd, there is very little external structure

  • or end up stressed post docs with a lot of discarded hobbies and scientific projects

  • seems so, and the steamdeck too I think macs also have sth like this.

  • I find sitting easier than standing. It requires less attention (atleast if you have standards of the waste actually being in the pot).

  • In general ac units are heatpumps. Efficency gains would be had from building insulation.

  • Yes, thank you!
