Just a guy not on Reddit

  • Someone at Google could hear what a device's microphone is picking up at all times?

  • Odd. Signal notifications absolutely include the content of the messages received.

  • Neither, some manufacturers modify Android considerably. By "stock" I mean essentially what is on Pixels and many other devices, but not for example, Samsung.

  • What app are you using? I like cdisplayex for comics. Kavita is basically just a file host and progress syncer

  • You could do a MiTM with a https proxy and look at wireshark to see what it sends.

Surely a professional must have looked into this by now?

Also I don't see how Google wouldn't be able to read Signal messages if they have full unstoppable access to everything? If the user can read it, surely Google can too?

  • Thank you! Location and search history are particularly troubling especially when a user is not even using Google to search. Can Google still see contacts if not using their contacts app?

  • Let's say the user is taking no other precautions. What information is being shared to Google with stock android?

  • Whether you need to have the absolute highest level of protection against Google is really something only you can determine.

Yes that's what I'm trying to determine lol but I haven't been able to know what it is Google has the power to do with stock android.

Thank you for the link to the article!

  • Understood (I think) so just to be clear, you are saying Google has the power to collet:

    • All signal Messages
    • Device Location at all times
    • Anything displayed on the screen
    • Audio around device (microphone) at all times
    • All files on the device

    Is that accurate?

  • I really like CasaOS and if you're just getting started then it's really friendly. But if I were to start fresh today I would probably go YunoHost because it seems to have the biggest community around it.

Haven't heard of Cosmos but it looks interesting and seems to have some features like reverse proxy baked in that would otherwise need a container like nginx proxy manager. It doesn't seem to have very many pre-approved apps however.

  • The simplest way is to get the gluetun app (on the BigBearCasaOS app store), get it set up with your VPN, then in qbittorrent do this (with the port):

    .

You can do the same thing on Prowlarr in the "proxy" settings. Radarr and Sonarr have a similar Proxy setting but you don't really need to put those behind the VPN there.

  • Thanks it looks like Readdeck has Koreader integration too. Will look into Logseq.

  • The RSS feeds aspect of Readdeck is a really nice feature! Looks like they both can send from the browser directly (for paywalls).

I wonder if anyone could make a version of this with Bypass paywalls clean baked in for convenience.

  • sudo ncdu allowed me to find a 72gb [long string of characterless]-json.log file and many 1gb+ files in /var/lib/docker/overlay2. I'm not sure what to do with this information or what's safe to delete but I'm getting somewhere.

  • UPDATE: sudo ncdu allowed me to find a 72gb [long string of characterless]-json.log file in /var/lib/docker/containers and many 1gb+ files in /var/lib/docker/overlay2. I'm not sure what to do with this information (or what's safe to delete) but I'm getting somewhere.

  • Thanks that allowed me to clear up about 20GB! Also sudo ncdu allowed me to find a 72gb [long string of characterless]-json.log file and many 1gb+ files in /var/lib/docker/overlay2. I'm not sure what to do with this information or if it's safe to delete but at least I'm getting somewhere.

  • Actually running sudo ncdu allowed me to find a 72gb [long string of characterless]-json.log file in /var/lib/docker/containers and many 1gb+ files in /var/lib/docker/overlay2. I'm not sure what to do with this information (or what's safe to delete) but I'm getting somewhere.

  • Sorry I believe I wasn't actually in the root of the drive! sudo ncdu allowed me to find a 72gb [long string of characterless]-json.log file in /var/lib/docker/containers and many 1gb+ files in /var/lib/docker/overlay2. I'm not sure what to do with this information (or what's safe to delete) but I'm getting somewhere.

  • It did yes, a few "invalid argument" a few "permission denied" and a few "no such file or directory"
