  • Yeah, totally - if it's actual hair like "hog hair" etc, it can pretty much get "split ends" like human hair does. You can spend a lot on artist brush cleaners/conditioners if you want them to last ages (and you can often rescue a splayed brush with the same stuff) - or you can try and wipe them with a wet cloth instead of dunking them underwater - it depends what sort of paint and how much it's dried on. Also, some people recommend you dry them sideways, or hanging downwards, rather than "bristle upwards", to avoid the water/gunk collecting under the ferrule, which can also splay or even rot the base of the bristles.

  • That's beautiful. It's quite reminiscent of the robot from Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Is it drawn "from something", or straight from your imagination to the page?

  • You may already have the answer from the other comments - but specifically for subtitle transcription, I've used whisper and set it to output directly into SRT, which I could then import directly into kdenlive or VLC or whatever, with timecodes and everything. It seemed accurate enough that the editing of the subs afterwards was almost non-existant.

I can't remember how I installed Whisper in the first place, but I know (from pressing the up arrow in terminal 50 times) that the command I used was:

whisper FILENAME.MP3 --model medium.en --language English --output_format srt

I was surprised/terrified how accurate the output was - and this was a variety of accents from Northern England and rural Scotland. A few minutes of correcting mistakes only.

  • I'd also accept a variation on that Christopher Walken bit from Pulp Fiction...

"He was captured and put in a Cardassian prison camp. Now he knew if the Cardies ever saw the baseball card it'd be confiscated. He'd be damned if any spoonheads gonna put their scaly grey hands on his limited edition baseball card, so he hid it, in the one place he knew he could hide something: his ass. Five long years, he wore this baseball card up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the baseball card. I hid this uncomfortable piece of cardboard up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I sell the baseball card to you."

  • Just a few small questions, out of interest - would you buy art if it was significantly cheaper, or free? Or would it just be so low on your priority list that it would never be important enough?

If it was very cheap, or free, would you take "whatever was on offer", or would you still have very particular tastes in what you liked?

  • The costume for Lady Gaga's next music video :)

  • We can all rip these fine. You're not telling me you got cursed, are you? It's such an easy one to avoid - just don't tread on the cracks in the pavement. You went and trod on a crack, didn't you?

  • What material are your current brushes made from? Are you aiming for just finer bristles (in the same size of brush) or also looking at a finer/thinner brush?

If you're looking at a finer brush, you might find you need a sturdier material, as finer brushes can just kind of "fold themselves flat". Something sturdier should allow you to paint finely with the tip, leave minimal brushstrokes and hold the shape of the brush (you may, of course, want the opposite). These days, good synthetic brushes are probably "springier" than natural hair ones, but there's a lot of personal preference there, and it's very dependent on medium and style.

It may be worth looking for a "comparison brush set" like the following: jacksonsart.com comparison brush set (obviously look for an equivalent in whatever country you're in). You get a pack of pretty good quality brushes of different materials and... see what you like. You can also get sets for comparing brush head shapes and so on.

  • Another way of saying "We will not follow legal requirements" is "We will break the law".

  • Generally speaking, yes.

Might (in some regions) just mean "fool/idiot", but the majority of people would take it as a synonym for "paedo".

  • Are you able to access archive.org from where you are in the UK?

  • I'm quite interested in what you're potentially doing here.

You've posted a few over the last few days, all very minimal, small range of colours, simple forms, quite sparse composition.

They're all (I think?) watercolour based - though being used in fairly bold, fairly solid flat planes of colour, rather than the thin, watery washes traditionally associated with the medium. A couple of them have an interesting 'cracked surface' texture in the paint.

They seem like a set of watercolour explorations or experiments - though your motivations are unclear.

So... tell us a little about what you're trying/thinking/doing/interested in/working towards etc (it doesn't need to be in 'fancy art language') :)

  • There's openra.net which is an open source "all the Command and Conquer games" engine, which may be of interest?

  • Okay, that was actually pretty cool.

    Thank you :)

  • I don't know what that is, so I'm going to try and deliberately avoid it unless recommended otherwise.
