Would not recommend under clocking. Buy a kill-a-watt measure your idle that’s your general power usage. A cpu that has a low TDP and newest generation is going to be the most efficient. After that it’s each item you add adds more usage at idle which is going to be most of your time. Transcoding efficiency doesn’t matter much since you are likely not transcoding when you aren’t watching videos. Have an appropriately sized power supply that platinum or gold certified, usually the extra cost will be justified by power bill usage over a year or 2.

For example my older gen server, a dell r720xd, sits about 120-130 watt but with 9 spinning disk drives each about 5w per hour it sits around 200w per hour. This does go higher when watching videos but is far from the average. 200w per is roughly $15-20 per month where I am located.

I’ve tried kubuntu, mint and zorinos. I can confirm it does “work” in both mint and zorin but not well and works in kubuntu with some commands. I think it’s getting very close though.

Just looked it’s unfortunately integrated

Now all I need is a driver for the wifi to get my 2016 macbook working on Linux. Right now there’s some hacks but connectivity is pretty spotty compared to when in MacOS.

Their goal last year was £900k I don’t think they got it but even then that would place executive pay at £123k yearly salary. Doesn’t seem excessive to me. More worried about their employees on average making around £45k.

I had the same experience. Long time kubuntu user and various other distros. Got on the nixos bandwagon used it on a couple computers. The breaking part for me was all well supported applications was great, but where it broke down hard were the fringe or unsupported applications I was spending a lot of time building the nix configs. After a while I just couldn’t spend that much time making my computer work. Back to kubuntu lts, its so low maintenance.

It’s been reasonably active here definitely not reddit in it’s prime, I haven’t found it worthwhile to self host lemmy but others may chime in that do. I’ve got a few other things I’m hosting on my Dell r720xd matrix, jellyfin, wireguard, next cloud, gonic and other minor things.

They didn’t before this only affects code changes going from AOSP to Google’s private branch, which is going away. Code from Google’s private branch to AOSP is unaffected. Custom ROMs are all just down stream consumers of AOSP repository anyways.

It’s been mostly this way for a while reason why it takes a little bit before lineageos releases the next version. AOSP is just fully down stream. What will be concerning is when those releases get longer and longer. As another comment said we all just need to figure out linux phones. Been eyeing a pine phone for a while now should probably pull the trigger.

Mozilla really needs the corporate ear. That’s what really did them in, google integrated into Active Directory group policy effectively making it a pretty good choice for corporate deployments. This would give leverage to have bigger donors. Outside of that is just to diversify but the vpn/privacy market is pretty saturated right now.
