Shame I can only see squares there. I wonder why. I can see wikipedia’s. Does this work? Two hieroglyphs: 𓂀𓀀
Edit: It does, I can read those in my own comment.
Edit 2: Windows issue? I can see them on Android/sync for lemmy.
A classic nerd from Norway.

Linux itself isn’t a company. And cant be bought up even if Linux Foundation is taken over. And its not like you support Linux Foundation when you download one of the free distros.
The alternatives… That once they shows a bit of growth and promise gets bought up by a bigger and greedier company, that then gets bought up by one of the big corpos and carefully discontinued in favor of their own product.
You might already heard this one but I didn’t learn until a relatively recent internet meme that its only here in Norway that something being “complete texas” means its completely chaotic and messy.
Also I’m using “what the fir forest” (“hva i granskauen”) as a replacement for “what the hell” and I have no idea where I’ve picked it up… Nobody else around me do, not even family. Works just as fine though against pain and annoyances.
Its doing pretty well when its doing a few words at a time under supervision. Also it does it better than newbies.
Now if only those people below newbies, those who don’t even bother to learn, didn’t hope to use it to underpay average professionals… And if it wasn’t trained on copyrighted data. And didn’t take up already limited resources like power and water.
Got free-running vision after enough Mirrors Edge. Not literally painted red, but might as well been.
I wholly support the idea of kicking corporations off social media.
Click on all the squares containing a human weak spot.
Remember kids, the only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.
What we need is another AI to watch it! Then another to watch that one. And another…
I dislike the idea that we spend so much effort trying to hide our humanity in these. Turning it so corporate clean and inhuman that its barely useful.
Yeah, yeah, like most people I also don’t like that they are created from stolen content. But ALOT of people seems to hate LLM with a passion just because its trendy, with very little thought to that its just a tool, and it cannot be uninvented.
But having to find and pay each content creator is only an option for bigger corporations, of course. And a lot of work. If they wanted to do it legally and morally right, they would use only stuff that has fallen out of copyright. And we would have an autocompleter that spoke like a 1900 roman character. Wouldn’t work. Its sad that copyright lasts this long. That we can’t use more current content more freely for anything like the new inventions like LLMs, or for other kinds of research, or for making museums, or archive old games in a usable state. People do it, of course, and its sad seeing them occasionally taken down for their hard work just because the content isn’t authors death plus 70 years old.
Yeah, theres a very good reason I dont use Spotify anymore. Not any music streaming services at all. Only good ol’ reliable mp3s. Their idea of “service” is to silently remove songs from my playlists as their licenses expire, and then top it by replacing “Hotel California” with the WORST cover song I’ve ever heard.
Imagine if Sony stopped selling on Steam, and Steam in response silently replaced my “Days Gone” game with “The Day Before”? I would have been so pissed. But with music it seems that is totally okay.
Once. It’ll better be one hell of an ad because it will lose them my subscription. I stopped watching television back in the late 90s because of all the ads, before even I had internet to watch pirated media. I don’t wear clothes with too visible logos. Just saying to illustrate how this ain’t an empty threat.
Losing a single customer probably doesn’t matter to them. But I hope Im not the only one?
Absolutely, bringing laughter and curiosity to people worldwide 2K years later is THE way to face death. But that guy is gonna be hard to beat…
Oh hell no, my last known action on this earth is NOT gonna be spent complaining about someone else’s music skills. Unless they are playing a vuvuzela or something…
I had to fight an annoying bug like this in our companys frontend code once. That specific country’s pretty-date settings insisted on returning only the last two digits of a year, and the UI framework’s date input field read it like that before parsing it back to a date.
Coward? What is it for him to fear?
They can. But theres a reasonable level of trust that a security feed has been kept secure and not tampered with by the owner if he doesnt have a motive. But what if not even the owner know that somewhere in their tech chain, maybe the camera, maybe the screen, maybe the storage device, maybe all 3, the image was “improved”. No evidence of tampering. We’ll have the police blaming Count Rugen for a bank robbery he didnt do, but the camera clearly shows a six fingered man!
How long until we got upscalers of various sorts built into tech that shouldn’t have it? For bandwidth reduction, for storage compression, or cost savings. Can we trust what we capture with a digital camera, when companies replace a low quality image of the moon with a professionally taken picture, at capture time? Can sport replays be trusted when the ball is upscaled inside the judges’ screens? Cheap security cams with “enhanced night vision” might get somebody jailed.
I love the AI tech. But its future worries me.
Earth has been iceless before of course, and I’ve heard people claim its not a problem for it to happen again.
But if only this heating had occured slowly over a period of ~45 million years, nobody would have panicked. We’d adapt. Fauna and flora would adapt. We’d not even notice the ice caps melting.
Why should everyhing be in threes and so damn final in big entertainment land? I like the “will return in Story Title n+1” endings. Even when it never even materializes. Or the eternal spinoffs of spinoffs (which a lot of Star Wars kinda already are). Or the crossover in other works as a background character easter eggs (which I believe Star Wars have done occasionally too). Or Marvel type crossovers (but comics, the MCU multiverse thingy crossovers are getting a bit tiresome by now) (also no, dont bring wolverine into Star Wars, please) (no, not Deadpool or Spiderman either) (oh, the alternative is putting mandalorians in every Star Wars you say?).
Anyway, let the protagonist and closest allies survive, let him walk into the sunset, and be open for more adventures another day. In their own or as a mentor in someone else’s story.
