I would suspect it’s a cheap and easy way to cut down on bots. Costs rack up quick if you want something good

Technology@lemmy.world•Wikipedia has banned AI-generated text, with two exceptionsEnglish
42·6 days agoThere should be a Wikipedia LLM with a sole purpose to check that the tone of the text is objective and matches Wikipedia standards.
The LLM should flag any changes it would make and if the the changes are above a threshold, the edit should be flagged to be reviewed more by another human.
One of the most optics driven wars ever. But I guess that’s what we get in the era of tiktok and AI

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Jensen Huang says Nvidia engineers should use AI tokens worth half their annual salary every year to be fully productive — compares not using AI to using paper and pencil for designing chipsEnglish
2·8 days agoHe got paid $50 million last year, so should he be consuming $25 million in tokens?
I once saw a lady walk right through the self checkout and out the door. The only reason she got caught was she picked up a big frozen crab legs box and that triggered the alarm.

4·8 days agoThere needs to be a better way to enforce geneva conventions and UN resolutions for countries at the top. Otherwise they’ll only bring them up when it’s convenient for them.
There’s no nuance in the anti-ai discussions. Even breathing next to an LLM makes it slop.
If you want THE sci-fi story for this, read Snow Crash

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel your job is important and are you proud to do it?English
1·15 days agoMy job is important but I feel that either I’m not equipped enough for it or that my users don’t get value out of it.
Without getting too specific, I’m a data engineer that is doing ETL work for maintenance data. So it could allow the business users to optimize the business and potentially lower a large carbon footprint while also saving the company millions.
I have a devops background so I really just need to git gud at databases and data engineering
Hellll yeah, such a great community. Very few games come close to the experience I had with it
I did enjoy him on parks and rec but I think he’s good at the roles he’s filling, golden retriever comedic relief that can take on action scenes and will be generally liked by the average American.
He’s no Anthony Hopkins or Daniel Day-Lewis but he’s got general audience pull and that goes back to why they’d cast him as Mario.
I think it’s more about drawing other audiences. Kids and gamers will absolutely watch Mario. If you cast Pratt, you could probably pull marvel fans as well. Using the og Mario voice actor may miss out on those sales

Ask@piefed.social•Married people, do you have a wedding ring? Do you always wear it?English
2·22 days agoYeah I got a platinum ring that felt pricey but it was easily stretched half a size at a jeweler for free and it should be easy to cut if I ever get in a stuck situation. It did irritate my skin at first when water got trapped in there but I take it off for showers/washing dishes now.
On a serious note, I do like it and I love that it gets worn and has scratches. I could polish it up but looking forward to being old and seeing physical wear marks of having a long marriage.

13·25 days agoMy brother got me an audio technica ATH-M30 in 2011. This before they even had the 30x. I’ve easily put 12k hours in em, just needed to change the ear cups. I drop them all them time from desk height too.
Every few years I’ve thought about upgrading for better quality but they get the job done well enough that I never pull the trigger. It’s a consumers dream

I’ve always wanted to try a really loud car. Same goes for those loud motorcycles.I can’t imagine the constant loud noise everywhere you go. You can’t sneak home when it’s late. Going out to just pick up some groceries? Well looks like your breaking the sound barrier doing it.
