I am a time-traveling dolphin. An entity made of giant balls gave me the ability to breathe underwater, but this ability was recently stolen from me by aliens.

  • All federal employees have been reclassified to political employees instead of nonpartisan civil servants, meaning they are closer to at will employees.

    This has never happened before.

    All federal employees now serve at the will of the party in power. There will be loyalty tests. There will be entire departments defunded and dismantled.

    They are reviewing social media posts as we speak to decide who to keep. That's right, that includes folks at the CDC, FDA, EPA..... every paperwork jockey, no matter how minor their position, is now subject to the whims at the party in power in a way they were not before.

    All these firings will be contested. They'll go to the courts. Say... Who owns the courts right now?

    You have no idea what is happening. The purges begin 90 days from now.

    1. the Republican party is pushing legislation which requires you to identify yourself to view porn
    2. you can get around this with a VPN
    3. proton is a VPN (nonprofit, but still).

    The USA has extradition with St Kitts and Nevis as far as I can tell. Running away to a tax shelter island (a British commonwealth, for fucks sake) shouldn't be enough for the USA to shrug it's sholders and give up.

    I politely disagree. What you're viewing as mechanical censorship is just community curation to them. Part of "power tripping" implies they are abusing power, and I don't see them preventing you from participating with anything you appreciate. There's plenty of other AI communities on lemmy.

  • I think Skiluros is right on the money, but I'm just going to point out something. (Disclamer: I am a regular reader of tech takes and I enjoy their snarky negativity)

    You walked into a hater's club with a rule of "no debates", debated the regular posters, and got banned. Is it heavy handed? Maybe, but it is low-effort moderation. I get the feeling if they didn't moderate similarly to this, they would be able to preserve the vibe of the place (and you are not obligated to like or agree with this vibe). They're allowed to have their own corner of the internet.

    I think they'd probably reverse it if you asked them to. I base this on the idea that instance bans are easy to hand out, and asking politely for an unban is something most banned people don't bother to do. I could be wrong.

    I bet they get absolutely flooded with folks who just want to debate instead of joining in on the sneering. It's gotta be way lower effort to just ban people. It's not like there's any large communities on that instance (Look at their local front page: buttcoin, sneerclub, techtakes. All hater's clubs, many posts months old on "active" setting), so I don't think they're doing real harm, either. It's not like you were instance banned from like, lemmy.world or something.

    There's plenty of other communities to discuss AI on lemmy. IMHO, you're just missing the point of techtakes. You don't have to agree with them, just like they aren't required to refute your youtube video.

  • ...my stats professor is a programmer, though. Are you not talking about high level statistics courses? A lot has changed since R and Rstudio has been developed. (It's FOSS!). All of my assignments are either proofs in LaTeX or questions that involve programming.

    ( If you're in a stats course and using excel, you are learning stats for babies. Your class has business majors in it.)

    None of the bathrooms at my work do this. Officially my job doesn't let me keep my purse/bag near the work area (I do anyway, and my bosses acknowledge corporate policy is written by lizard people) and I have to grab pads/tampons and stuff them in my pockets before using the restroom.

    Are you telling me they just have a ladies room with supplies available? That seems nice. My job doesn't pay people well so they'd probably get stolen hoarded by people who need them more than me.

    Though, my job treats trans people like humans and lets trans ladies use the ladies room, so we got that going for us.
