  • Ok but they were selling shitty laptops with 4g of soldered RAM very recently. I also had to deal with a 64gb soldered SSD, that piece of shit wasn't even that old, it was a Windows 11 PC . The torx still annoy me, but they're a garbage company. Don't even start on their printers.

  • It's always torx. I don't need them for anything else. And yeah I own a couple of torx bits but I have a really nice selection of Philips I keep right at hand. But like I said, that's just one of many reasons.

  • No it's just to run a single proprietary software for some old hardware at my job. It won't even be connected to the Internet. After trying for a couple of hours I had it set up and working on Win 10 in about 20 mins including the windows install.

  • My job has some old equipment that has proprietary software that I can't get to run on Linux. It's literally the only thing I need that tower to run. It's a 2nd gen i5. It runs Windows 10 acceptablyfrom a small SSD. It won't even be connected to the internet.

  • I sometimes do. But I'd point a gun back and say, make the penguin run this software in a way that doesn't require a power user or take a newbie three fucking weeks.

    I use Linux a lot and have about ten PCs running it so far, but I literally just installed Windows 10 on a shitbox that will very rarely be online because it was my best option for the software and respecting my time. I don't work in IT. I run a small nonprofit and I used to build and upgrade/repair PCs as a side gig.

  • I agree for high school, but middle schoolers are fucking stupid. All hormones and doing stupid shit to impress their friends. My problem is the lights flash at the wrong times. I'm driving by at 20mph on a 45mph road when there isn't a kid in sight. But when there are kids everywhere 45 is apparently fine.

  • The problem is history is continuously rewritten and education is sometimes indoctrination. It's still the solution, but you can't trust those in power to do it with integrity. We must always stay involved and informed.

  • Meanwhile, I have a 16-year-old son who plays Roblox a decent amount, they do facial scanning and then put you in groups based on their assessment. Or at least that is my understanding. Dude just turned 16 this week, but they put him in the over 21 category. Granted he does have a full beard and has a ridiculously deep voice, but he did at 14 just like I did. I'm not worried about him gaming with older people though, he doesn't really want to leave the house so he's not going to get raped by some predator, plus the 21+ crowd is generally more mature. And whatever they have to say, he's probably already heard it anyway. And I dare a predator to come here lol. They'd never find him.
