  • Yeah we have a place around the corner called the market where people shop for free. You can only shop twice a month tho.

  • It's just as simple as that

  • I was trimming a tree on my property and a big branch kicked back and broke my arm. I said, "It'll be fine."

    It's fine.

  • No, it's more of a testament to how car-dependent our area is. You can live without a house, but you can't live without a car, or access to someone who will drive you. Housing here is comparitively affordable.

  • I work with a lot of homeless, and I have known a few who have rented a car in a pinch. But you're right, most just have an old beater they own.

  • My wife and I are saving for a "down payment" for our next vehicle. I've got about $10k saved but I really need at least $20k down to make the payment manageable. I should be buying outright with $20, but here we are.

  • Those are nice, but they are not options for much of the US.

  • In my area, the majority of homeless have cars. A car rental can be more important than a home to rent for survival for more people than you might think.

  • There must be some other word for a bundle of sticks.

  • Yeah I've only switched two of the 20 I need to do. It'll probably be months after Win10 loses support before I get it all done.

  • Everything I have with DDR5 is running Win11. I have some DDR3 machines on Win10 tho. And of course DDR4. Just in my house I have three pretty decent DDR4 gaming rigs with compatible CPUs, SSDs, and nice video cards 3070ti and 4070ti, but the motherboard isn't up to spec. I don't like Win11 anyway though. I'll have to figure those out soon I guess.

  • I still have my original NES and N64 from when they came out. Both still work with zero maintenance. I used the N64 last week.

  • It isn't only misuse. Sick now means very nice. That didn't happen because people didn't understand the meaning of the word sick. Language just changes, and dictionaries acknowledge common use.

Yes, in this case it probably came from generations of people not understanding the difference between a cow and a bull. And most people only see cows irl, not a lot of places have fields full of bulls. I was pretty much raised understanding that "cow" was both a general term and a specific term. No one uses the term bovine in real speech.

  • Are there a lot of countries that allow open alcohol containers in vehicles?

  • Most places also have open container laws.

  • It's fun to look up your birthday month and day and add Florida man or Florida woman to the search, and then look for the best headlines.

  • It once was wrong. When it becomes one of the definitions, it's no longer wrong. That's how language works.

  • If you look up the definition of cow, it includes this:

(loosely) a domestic bovine animal, regardless of sex or age

So, it is maybe an informal use of the word, but not unrecognized.
