  • 168 hour policy

  • Must be that bullshit-resistant strain, to have been able to grow so close to his talking hole

  • There are only 535 Americans' opinions that might matter, and only if they have enough support to not only pass a law revoking the President's war authority, but upholding the inevitable veto. I'm not holding my breath.

  • In this case, its more than just a distraction from the Epstein files. Trump was captivated with the idea that Ukraine had to suspend elections while engaged in war. He is going to try and pull that same shit here, just watch.

  • Just looking at the picture in the article, though, shows that he is either quite tall, or his security detail are dwarves.

  • No it won't, they'll come back to daddy

  • .... wait, what? Next are you gonna tell me that the "cocksucking" badge I got from that one scoutmaster is fake?

  • Maybe they'll start a new organization, not only for Trump fans, but specifically for the Youth. Where have I heard that idea before?

  • Doesn't the SecDef have more important things to do right now? Like fight a war no one but his boss wanted?

  • Sort of. US citizens owe US taxes on their worldwide income, no matter the source. US citizens working abroad also owe taxes to the country they work in. However, the US has tax treaties with many countries that cover how each countries' citizens are taxed.

If a US citizen earns income in these countries, they may be able to deduct any taxes paid out to the other country against their US tax bill. (And since US tax rates are low compared to many of these other countries, this often results in zero US taxes owed.)

  • This article is paywalled for me, but it's very important to understand that these people who are leaving are still citizens. It is very difficult (and expensive) to renounce US citizenship.

So, they are moving abroad, while still retaining their US citizenship. Which includes their right to vote, which can be exercised in the last district they resided in within the US. But Trump sees mail-in voting as a threat, so expect his illegal Executive Ordersto not even recognize that ex-pats have a right to vote at all.

  • I have always felt that the only arbiter of academic qualifications should be the voters. If someone can make their case to voters directly, the it shouldn't matter how formally educated they are.

However, this assumes that voters actually determine who gets those seats. More than 90% of House seats are in districts that are drawn to be so safe for one side or the other that the general election is a formality. A politician who can fend off primary challenges can essentially hold on to that seat forever, regardless of qualifications.

That's why we keep electing dumbasses to Congress. They know how to game the system. How do we fix that? I don't see any way out as long as parties can game districts like that.

  • But if you are not actively aligning your political views with the Administrations' priorities, aren't you a domestic terrorist anyway?

  • I would be in favor of amending the Constitution to make the qualifications for President "Be a natural-born citizen and at least 35 years old, or be a naturalized citizen for at least 35 years". Maybe if we pull out of this fascist decline we could get that passed in his lifetime.

  • That last part is super important. We know this administration is building concentration camps for non-citizens. It's a logical next step to extend that to citizens and non-citizens alike with ties to the counties he doesnt like. Whose gonna stop him?

Well, if it comes to that Mamdani will try his best to stop him. And since Trump seems to have a man crush on Mamdani, maybe it will work where other interventions haven't.

  • Also: let's not pretend we don't know why he did it. Trump overheard from Zelenskyy that in Ukraine, they postponed elections while at war with Russia. He seems to think it's a fine idea.

  • Well, the Furher has decreed that birthright citizenship is verboten, so these mothers can be forced to give birth, and then when the stateless babies are deported they can pad ICE's deportation stats. A win-win proposition! (For everyone but the people whose lives are being ruined, but this Administration does not care.)

  • That was baa-d advice.

Did you pay for that advice? If you did, you got fleeced.
