  • I’m just soapboxing here, but the best live music performance I’ve ever seen was at a TMOE concert. Unfortunately, it was after Kristian started touring with a full band and decided not to play any of his acoustic work. Wasn’t him; his performance was mid as fuck.

His opener Lady Lamb did a full set of raw vocals and guitar and completely stole the show. Never seen an upstaging of that magnitude before or since — she had the entire crowd locked in. Her studio work doesn’t quite live up to that acoustic set, but she’s a very talented artist on the whole and I can earnestly recommend her work to anyone who’s a fan of Kristian’s first two albums.

  • EDITOR=shred too if you’re brave or having a rough day.

  • Been happy on ZFS since before btrfs stabilized and worked out its kinks, so I can’t personally vouch for it — but nothing against it in theory :).

  • Since no one else has said it yet, ZFS is underrated for gaming. Compression saves considerable disk space if you have a big library, you can stripe HDDs for better performance, and snapshotting makes backups a breeze.

  • In political science and philosophy terms, that’s more precisely called Classical Liberalism or Civil Libertarianism, whereas in common American parlance, the unqualified term “liberal” has become colloquially tied to Neoliberalism.

You can fight that if you want, but the ship left the harbor decades ago.

  • I have xgrass installed from the x11-apps package.

I find it a suitable replacement and can’t even remember what the original looks like because I removed all the Windows from my house.

  • Obligatory

  • I know it’s not exactly what you’re after, but have you tried holding your breath or a few rounds of trying to breathe sharply?

YMMV but I find I can break out pretty easily.

  • I’m talking about the Reddit pic; the Lemmy OP’s are definitely on the smaller side compared to what they could be, but should taste and cook just fine.

  • Those in the photo are actually perfectly fine. The naming of these gets pretty convoluted and has a lot of regional variation, but these look to be “chiltepin”/“bird’s eye”.

  • Seconding the zstd rec.

For anyone like OP worried about having an offline copy of the utility on hand, I strongly recommend throwing a copy of cosmos on your recovery drive. It’s a set of common tools that are compiled to a special binary format that’ll run on all major OSes (and ARM64), including zstd.

  • Just to tail on the “Postgres is a better document DB than Mongo” theme, there’s now a QuickJS procedural extension for postgres (in addition to the earlier but clunkier plv8):

    https://github.com/plv8/pljs https://bellard.org/quickjs/quickjs.html

The rub is that you can yeet any document data you like into JSONB columns, and mung them efficiently and freely with JS — taking all the upsides of Mongo, yet letting you merge them seamlessly with the full capabilities of PG’s relational model.

  • Out of respect for the mods, lemme just say:

  • The problem isn’t the kids, it’s the old fucks in charge.

A brief visit to College Station will fiercely dispel that notion. Most aggies regardless of age are in favor of this.

  • Zero, unless you're a big eBPF user.

  • Yeah, that’s fair.

I was focused on the marginal effect no matter how small, but you’re right that heat of solvation for gases is minuscule. I’m won over on the idea that it would be outweighed by cooling effect of gas expansion from fart decompression.

  • We need a room calorimeter and a lot of beans.

  • Care to elaborate on your stance?
