  • I started using Discord in 2015 and around 2019 uninstalled it in favor of using it exclusively through a web browser (blocking as much of it's nonsense as possible). Discord takes too many resources hostage if anyone in your server is streaming something, even if you're not watching it. I don't have that issue when using Element (Matrix), Jitsi or any of Steam's broadcasting tools. The only reason I haven't deleted my Discord account yet is because some people I hold dear are incapable of trying something better nowadays (even when they already have it installed as is the case of Steam).

  • I'll need some time to find where to migrate, if at all. Lemm.ee was very well managed and I would've gladly volunteered to help out. My bad for not paying closer attention sooner.

  • This is the stuff I'm in Lemmy for. 💛

  • Baby don't drift me 🎶🎵

  • If they wanted parental controls they'd use the ones already available and ask their ISPs to provide additional and more accessible ones per SIM card, per contract (though manually setting up limitations on each device works better and should suffice). Mandatory age and ID verification for websites is an authoritarian policy through and through, and goes far past anything that would protect children in any way (in fact, it would harm them).

  • When you choose to forgive someone you're not necessarily forgiving their mistake. It's not condoning, it's giving someone another chance to do better. Forgiving and protecting against risks isn't mutually exclusive, it just takes more effort to do both.

  • 3 times faster to uninstall and never go back to.

  • I'm reading posts as yours thankful to still find some people with common sense. I lost friends to covid while others kept ranting about nonsensical conspiracy theories and proudly rebelling. One of the dumbest shit I've heard people say is "Why should I wear a mask for covid if I don't wear one for flu?". Well, if you actually gave a damn about anyone's wellbeing you'd wear a mask for BOTH.

  • Thanks for the heads up. It's version code 77 when downloading manually from Aurora Store in case anyone else is wondering. Please blacklist Canon Camera Connect after installing it to avoid further updates.

  • Also the false notion that if a third party benefits it will always result in a loss for their first party. Better education for everyone can only result in a better world for everyone. And if the issue with foreigners is some of them earned their place unfairly then the problem isn't nationality but the massive wealth gap billionaires keep on feeding. People should whine less and eat more rich, the healthiest diet out there. 10/10 doctors forced to leave the US would approve.

  • Get Spam Blocker from F-Droid and if you like it and want a bit more filtering that's also compatible with the app check out Phoneblock.net. I was going to add that you might need to translate the site but it seems to be available in more languages now. 🎉

  • Thumbs up from me too. I'm always eager to hear/read from people who aren't shy but rather open and reasonable about their beliefs, whatever those may be.

  • Wouldn't have noticed. 😏

  • I'll just add that I've had absolutely no benefit, just time wasted, when using the most popular services such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. Yes, sometimes it gets a few things right, mostly things that are REALLY easy and quick to find even when using a more limited search engine such as Mojeek. Most of the time these services will either spit out blatant lies or outdated info. That's one side of the issue with these services, and I won't even get into misinformation injected by their companies. The other main issue I find for research is that you can't get a broader, let alone precise picture about anything without searching for information yourself, filtering the sources yourself and learning and building better criteria yourself, through trial and error. Oftentimes it's good info that you weren't initially searching for what makes your time well spent and it's always better to have 10 people contrast information they've gathered from websites and libraries based on their preferences and concerns than 10 people doing the same thing with information they were served by an AI with minimal input and even less oversight. Better to train a light LLM model (or setup any other kind of automation that performs even better) with custom parameters at your home or office to do very specific tasks that are truly useful, reliable and time saving than trusting and feeding sloppy machines from sloppy companies.

  • Someone clearly has never used context menus or opened their account settings in Mastodon.
