  • I am of the opinion that hostile or even toxic behaviour of someone does not excuse retaliating with disinfo like that. Yes cryptagion is a bit too much sometimes, and I do wish they could chill a bit, but they've literally blocked your whole instance so they don't have to interact with y'all, and hexbear still drove itself into a fury though nothing more than talking to each other in your own comm.

    You always get people with more extreme opinions. Crypt apparently takes a very hard stance towards collaboration with nazis. That doesn't make them a nazi or a genocide denier. These are some downright bizarre takes which are nevertheless the standard take in c/slop

  • As far as I can tell, cryptagion didn't encourage it, that person was planning to do it anyway. We agree that it would have probably been better to try to convince for a different course of action, but that's not really a huge failing.

    Whats causing the friction here is people blowing it out of proportion, adding plenty of disinfo and end up calling cryptagion a "genocide denying groomer nazi" and then calling for a defed because of that. I can't fault crypt for feeling they need to respond to stuff like that

  • In my experience, we don't have quite that many leftists trying to rile each other up. What often happens is that some people want to character assassinate some others due to previous dislikes or because they oppose one of their core beliefs, so they try to blow up any "impurities" they can find in order to turn people against them. You can see it with people who get short term bans from leftist places and then get into year-long grudges.

    Generally I would suggest people start ignoring people who constantly post and try to stir up drama about whole instances or specific subgroups of lemmy users. For example, I dislike intensely, like threads.net, hilariouschaos and lemmygrad and yet you don't see me constantly opening drama threads about them.There's some caveats in this statement, but it by and large, it applies imho.
