  • You so clever! How many numbers I have write with binary? Is two, no? Why fucking computer use binary if only two numbers?

  • Hollywood celebrities pushing the woke mind virus.

  • Thanks for the chuckle.

  • All the switches. All the joy. No need for plugs left on the floor.

  • No, but my point was that there's no need to unplug something and leave the plug on the floor if there's a switch.

  • The ladies flock to me for my witty pedantic corrections.

  • Why not drop the plug at the wall instead of in the middle of the floor where you walk, or get a multisocket? £3.99 at Argos for a little one.

  • Far more likely to move the appliance than damage the plug. I've got a couple of spare old bakelite plugs in my garage, and that shit is strong.

  • Don't unplug them, use the socket switch, and don't leave them where you might walk if you do.

  • UK sockets usually have switches on them. There's no need to unplug things when you're not using them.

Also, Lego is a collective noun. Saying legos is exactly like saying sheeps.

  • 30,000 or so unnecessary deaths because he delayed lockdown.

Partied breaking his own rules while the Queen mourned her husband in isolation, not allowed to have anyone sat next to her at the funeral.

Like trump, a born liar and bulshitter.

  • This is a really interesting analogy. I perceive more than I see.

  • Definitely, but you only ever perceive all that because of the one-dimenaional way your eardrums vibrate, and they vibrate because the air next to them vibrates. If we make the air next to your eardrums vibrate in the same pattern they did when the band were performing, you will hear and perceive the same sound as the band made.

You should be aware that an amplified band is only ever making sound at you through a bunch of speakers whose only function is to vibrate air in a one dimensional pattern.

Separating that all out into different instruments and people and timbres etc is the clever bit, and your brain does that, not the speaker, and you largely learned it as a child.

  • That's not why they're blocking the UK.

The information commissioner's office found in an investigation that predates the OSA that they were selling users personal data and that some users were tagged as children (dediced from usage, not declaration) and were still sold. They said that if imgur didn't come up with a plan to exclude the users tagged as minors from sale, they would likely be liable for a fine. THAT'S when imgur blocked the UK. It's not actually the OSA that caused the fine, but imgur is happy for people to think it is because the OSA is unpopular.

I fully support companies deciding not to participate in the hoarding of personal information

But they were threatened with a fine for hoarding and selling children's browsing habits, though.

Also, separately, imgur deleted a bunch of images for the crime of not having a paid subscription. It's silly to use a company who are so clearly starting down the enshittification route. We should switch to others who aren't, or they will all follow imgur's enshittification.

You can upload images directly to your instance while you post. We don't need a corporate image host, we're on the fediverse.

It's wild to me that so many of us left reddit for Lemmy because we found out that we shouldn't trust corporations with our user generated entertainment, and then people go and make the same mistake with imgur while they're enshittifying. Just upload to your instance.

Please don't use money grabbing, child data selling, geoblocking imgur.

  • The duckduckgo week browser comes with its own YouTube player which is ad free.

  • Yep.

it had scrapped plans to reopen a freight terminal in Barking and to run a new direct freight service from Lille.

... and the UK population who knew about it gave a little shrug.

  • the /s wasn’t a thing pre covid.

It's been around a looooong time, certainly well before covid.
