  • It's a very good question and one I don't have a good answer.

    Thinking aloud I'll admit in Stalin's case there was definitely some pragmatism to not going off on the west. The USSR was still behind developmentally and especially after the great war and losing so many people, so much industry, farmland, etc there might have been real fears of collapse or being overrun and so there might have been a really strong attempt to offer an olive branch, to do the utmost to be conciliatory and non-threatening to buy time to grow, recover, develop. Though after a certain point this does make less sense.

    The capitalists and liberal-roaders during late (Gorbachev) and after the fall of the USSR make far more sense given they strongly believed that the difference between west and Russia wasn't that the west was a club of aristocratic old racists and colonialists intent on dominating and exploiting everyone not a member of the club but that it was all shared values and that the communism was the threatening thing instead of the whole Russian bourgeoisie being minor outsiders who were not desired to grow to the heights of the western capitalists and aristocracy as Russia was slated for plunder. Besides that the planners of empire of course, the US and UK specifically knew a country as large, diverse, rich in resources as Russia could not be allowed to rise and join the club as it would inevitably seize a large amount of power from their factions for itself and its interests.

    When talking of Russian reluctance to confront the west over e.g. Ukraine it is also important to remember material interests. Russia has been slapped with massive sanctions, their economy has been partially decoupled from by the west and the west is gearing up for war with Russia within the next 10 years and calling them a threat which must be destroyed. All because Russia had the audacity to swat away the dagger being positioned under its heart in Ukraine. Putin was definitely suckered by the west for a while but it was an inconvenient reality to face the need to confront the west. The result has been painful. Right now Russia is staring down a likelihood of years of devastating and spectacular western intelligence service aided terrorist attacks like those recently seen on two passenger trains where bridges were blown up and the attacks on their strategic bombers. They've had top generals assassinated in Moscow. They are enduring a horrible pain and knew to some extent they'd get things like this for challenging the west so were inclined to try diplomacy past the point of foolishness just in some vague hope they could work this out. As you I'm not convinced Russia won't drop many of its critical demands or moderate them and make concessions to end the Ukraine war. I hope they don't. I think it'd be foolish and selling the future for the present but they might and the west thinks they might which is why they're doing all this.

    I suppose I'd have to guess it may be the whiteness, the lack of experience with the full brutality of extended colonization (though I'll note fascism is really just colonialism used on white people and over 1940-1944 the USSR experienced a great deal of pain inflicted in a short period by that though admittedly the end of that did have some help from the west who were portrayed as allies against it).

    Thinking about the DPRK they were never really courted in the way the west has courted and tried to deceive and charm Russia/USSR and its leadership. Thinking of Iran they likewise were saddled with dictatorship and never really courted by the west but imposed with isolation and sanctions for their revolution. China has somewhat warmer relations but pragmatism and that comes from the west courting them for the Sino-Soviet split and because they exploited the west's hunger to profit from their population. Many smaller socialist states like Cuba, etc have been subject to crushing sanctions, coup attempts, color revolutions, etc perhaps because they're seen as small enough to easily crush while larger powers like the USSR and China are seen as better dealt with through courting and deception. I think the role of diplomacy and messaging may play a role as the west has certainly fostered a certain kind of attitude towards some nations and not others.

  • Saw a thing on RT talking about Russia wanting to restart RIC (Russia, India, China) and yeah that's not happening. There are structural reasons too for that like the greed of Indian capitalists and the fact to really sate that they want to destroy China's role as a world manufacturing hub and take it for themselves with all the attendant profit. Hence all these kinds of boycotts and anti-Chinese products rhetoric and protectionist measures. They're not interested in trying to do Juche so for them to grow stronger they need China to grow weaker. It's very zero sum to them regardless of on the ground supply chain situations that go back to China at present.

    To me India remains the odd child in BRICS. They have massive religious and capitalist driven inequality (caste system and capitalism), they started in a similar spot post colonialism as China yet are much further behind because they're not run by a communist party, they have religious extremists in power and nuclear weapons pointed at a segregated religious-ethnic state of Pakistan which exists as a result of a religious split. They buy all kinds of military stuff from the west but also Russia. They're only kind of held to BRICS by their traditional fondness for the USSR.

    Compare to China, we already know the situation there and it's good. Compare to Russia which is former USSR, lots of problems, growing reaction but also a kind of Soviet-drawn pragmatism to world affairs. Also they unlike India have finally been burned enough by the west's duplicity to kind of understand who they are and why they must be with China and BRICS over the west. India still have I believe delusions of being accepted by the west and integrating, things which the west actively encourages for now as they did with Russians in the 90s. Unlike Russia though India poses no threat of domination over any place they care about (Europe in Russia's case) so there's no reason for the west to turn on or attempt to hem them in with a NATO type structure unlike Russia.

    South Africa obviously is a state with issues but it did free itself from Apartheid and has revolutionary communists not that far from the levers of power as well as very recent educating experiences on racism and western complicity that leaves them less amenable to hurting other BRICS members.

    Brazil I can't say much about here I suppose. But within the context of at least RICS, India is and will remain the problem country, the one most likely to hurt other members, to believe in the west's lies, to for selfish reasons seek to engineer pain for China out of a belief it benefits.

    If you care about something you owe it to that cause to be rational, to think clearly through your actions and their consequences and what they can and cannot achieve. Ask yourself are you doing this out of a selfish desire to be a martyr in the easiest way possible? Or are you trying to maximize the good you can do, the effect you can have. I think arguably if this person had gone to California and spent the next 6 months harassing Google employees for their company's participation in genocide they would have had a bigger impact. But that's not grandiose, that's not satisfying to the ego and martyrdom drive. It's not dramatic enough.

    I really, really hope this person wasn't at any point a member. I really hope that they haven't been organizing with ANSWER lately. The more modern ones that travel at high mach speeds (colloquially "hypersonic") are harder to intercept simply on the basis of the fact that they're already moving so fast it's harder to hit them when what you're firing can't move meaningfully faster than them but you can still compute trajectory and if you have enough anti-air to commit to it just fire off 4 of them in the projected path and count on it not changing course radically to dodge all 4.

    When you're the US and have a MASSIVE satellite spy network, a MASSIVE radar network that is able to peer over most of the world thanks to NATO hegemony (Greenland radar gives them visibility and warning over the north pole and parts of Russia itself, they also have visibility via radar in their island chains around China and in Asia as well as in Europe) you have significantly more warning and more chances for likely successful intercept than China or Russia who both have very limited warning because they have no forward comprehensive radar nets off their soil between them and their enemies while the US literally has its enemies ringed with them to say nothing of thermal and image satellites constantly looking for launch activity over the entirety of enemy territory. Additionally the US has forward stationed nukes in Europe it can use as well as nuclear submarines regularly parked off Russia and China.

    The strength of the US position is hard to overstate, as it is they're barely abiding by MAD with the strength of their offensive capabilities and their early warning systems as well as stealth first strike and revenge systems via placements with European vassals and on nuclear subs.

    I personally think the whole "space force" thing is part build CIA in space to take out/sabotage Chinese/Russian hardware in the event of war (ideally by using secret operations to get people to their assets in space before war during peace to plant remote explosives or hacking chips), part defense contractors seeking new money, and part deranged idea of militarizing space with kinetic anti-ballistic missile satellite constellations. They were seriously toying with Brilliant Pebbles in the 90s but ultimately canned it not because the idea had no practicality but because they decided they'd neutralized Russia and believed China would be collapsing into a capitalist comprador state any year then thanks to comrade Gordon Chang. The technology for doing it automatically admittedly still isn't there but with the US forward radar systems, comprehensive satellite coverage, AND importantly being the one to strike first so knowing when they're going to launch at you ahead of time could come together to create something semi-viable.

    It really doesn't matter if it actually works or if China or Russia could still destroy most of the US, the desperate backs against the wall planners of empire need only believe in their wunderweapons to give the go-ahead to strike first and then we're all dead including China and the US perishing with them because their wunderweapons are only 50% effective will be little solace to the survivors in the nightmare they'll endure. (Bonus: even if the US is taken out Europe will strike out to rebuild the western hegemonic white capitalist world order intact as I don't think China targets them or really presently has enough nukes to hit them plus Asian US vassals and the US, Russia on the other hand could but Russia coming along after the US and China are destroyed and imposing itself on Europe and becoming a capitalist hegemon itself would also be very bad and hardly any better).

    China cannot build more nukes fast enough is my thinking. It better be a priority to hit a much higher number by or before 2030 with as many as possible on the most advanced missiles.

    Shields especially in nuclear game theory are offensive in nature, they are something you can hide behind and if you can protect yourself while your opponent cannot that gives you an advantage in being able to strike out and bloody them while avoiding being bloodied.

    One last thing, back in the day there was this idea of using nuclear weapons as missile interceptors. Basically back then there was no hope of intercepting missiles kinetically, the technology wasn't even on the horizon so instead they had these missiles (Nike program) with nukes which would be shot up in the incoming path of enemy ICBMs, detonate their warheads and hope that the blast or EM radiation destroyed or disabled most incoming enemy warheads.

Even if they achieved a system with 50% intercept rate that would mean China and Russia would need to ensure they retained at least twice as many nuclear weapons as America had interceptors and with that amount likely to be classified it would send both on nuke building sprees which would result in the US 1) building even more interceptors and feeding the mil-industrial complex more money and 2) building more nukes because now they have less and have to have at least as many. Eventually, sooner than later some genius maniac puts a bunch of nukes up in space as a doomsday weapon, they automatically launch and attack say China if they don't get the stand-down signal every 20 minutes. Eventually a technical glitch due to this being outsourced to Musk results in the weapons firing anyways because the signal not to fire was broken too long.

  • I don't disagree though I'd add for a large chunk it's a religious dogma. The US indoctrination and propaganda is much, much, much stronger and more refined and intertwined with other beliefs and brainworms. The Chinese communists could appeal to a sense of Chinese pride and nationalism, what can Americans do hmm? The identity of the nation for these people is a white-supremacist, settler-colonial-capitalist one based on heavy amounts of atomization and the myth of the frontier and the castle doctrine as their mythos.

    The hands of a successful revolution will be full enough re-educating the massive amounts of more reformable types. The order of the day should be to terrorize these into submission. Cut the grass blades that grow taller than the others. But do not waste the stretched and limited resources of the post-revolutionary state unnecessary. Triaging is necessary. Resources are limited. None more-so than the educated, dedicated, ideologically disciplined cadres necessary to oversee re-education who are also those most needed for minding and running the new state and guarding against careerists, the ideologically weak, and those who are corrupt enemies of the people. If you don't use those you use common jailers who start committing abuses and release large numbers of people who underwent no real re-education who go on to foment terrorism and counter-revolution.

    I think we need to just dump them on an island somewhere and put them under continuous naval blockade and internet blackout till they revert to a Hunter gather society.

    And when they have sex and produce children they raise in these brainworms (and abuse as I guarantee this society becomes very pedophilic to say nothing of other forms of child abuse common to reactionaries) you're just okay with human life being brought into that? Do you organize raids that suffer regular casualties to retrieve the children they produce and acknowledge some will be successfully hidden anyways?

    Reminder that rare earths are not actually rare, it's just that China has 85% of world refining capacity for them as it takes some doing. In a full on war footing, pull out all the brakes type situation the US could absolutely spin up some not as efficient, very dangerous for workers, expensive, but workable emergency capacity, it wouldn't put them on par with China but it would be enough to continue a war with selective strikes (instead of constant, high intensity bombardments hourly for weeks on end) and after that point the US would almost certainly continue to build up that capacity and make it a point to attempt to wean the rest of the world off Chinese rare earths.

    It would also result in all kinds of other unforeseen consequences. For example the US may have the capacity to hack and physically damage or destroy Chinese electrical or other infrastructure but obviously isn't going to do that right now. But if a hot war unfolds and especially one where the US isn't winning they might break out those offensive state malware toolboxes and start wreaking incredible havoc within China that could cost a lot of money, take a lot of lives and result in a lot of chaos, uncertainty and problems that would take quite some time to sort out. The more electronically connected and "smart" everything is as in China the easier it is to fuck up everything, ironically the US by not being as "advanced" as China in adopting network connectivity to various things is a harder target in this regard. China is well aware of this risk, the US basically compromised everything in China with their shipments of NSA hardware back-door chipped Cisco routers and devices which Snowden revealed and though it's been more than a decade since they became aware I have to assume they're still inside many systems lurking and waiting.

  • I very nearly wrote a comment about this long or longer going off on religion in reply to a post here but decided against it.

    Christianity is a slave religion. It is not revolutionary. It is for the status quo, it demands slaves obey their masters, masters obey the state (render unto Cesar) and dangles above them all this idea that submitting here and now doesn't matter because you're on this plane of existence for 60-100 years and then if you're a good Christian you go to heaven literally forever and get to live in a paradise so it's just not worth struggling over. You can sit there as a smug slave, as a smug serf, worker etc as you're beaten and starved because you know you have a ticket of this, you know you have a reward waiting for you so none of this matters. The Protestant work ethic is the Christian work ethic. It demands false peace instead of justice, says CSA victims must forgive their abuser in their church and says that abuser as long as they repent to god (not even the victim, they don't matter) they're golden and their ticket to heaven remains reserved and they can stand up in front of church, forgiven by god and cannot be judged.

    You want to be a Christian and push for a better world? Fine I'm not going to go out of my way to make fun of you but I am judging you because you're a cafeteria Christian, I find it unserious, you're picking and choosing and ignoring parts of your religion to suit what you want it to say. You're not an ounce of a more genuine Christian than the reactionary Christians who never do any charity at all who also pick and choose and twist the religion to be what you want it to be to suit your way of thinking.

    Additionally Jesus says by the way that the OT is totally valid until he returns. Matthew 5:17-20:

    I get you know being afraid of death. I honestly think it's the task of a world communist government to create a new religion for people who need this kind of thing, one that's defanged and harmless, one that cannot be misinterpreted in any charitable way to support bigotry, one with equal rights for women at its core and which is simple and short in tenets and wildly progressive. And it should make all the wanted promises, eternal life, etc, etc, only you don't confess to Jesus in your head, you confess to the local commissar in a self-crit and then you're forgiven unless it's a serious crime in which case you're imprisoned or sent to reform labor or whatever but promised your spot in the afterlife is preserved as a result. The point being not to go out of our way to preach and convert the masses to worshiping the party or anything bizarre like that but having an out, an option for these people so they don't get drawn into ancient, patriarchal, homophobic, reactionary ideologies.

  • Glad I rolled my own server solution with network storage rather then buying into this. Also does transcoding a lot, lot faster than these. Admittedly would love to find some way to have a working SLC cache for serving files but oh well. Access times haven't been a problem.
