  • I hate Warner-Discovery a lot so I hope they lose. Also I dislike IP laws a lot so again I hope they lose.

  • Why? You assume India is operated on the basis of some broad self-interest or as a rational actor. That is not the case. It's run by Hindu fascists and capitalists. If they're given a chance to increase their profits/prestige while stabbing China in the side they'll do it in a heartbeat as long as they don't think it'll put them too much under the thumb of the west in doing so and I don't think they're the best judges of that given who runs them and their inherently clouded vision of what is and isn't a good-looking world to live in.

So if the west seems particularly strong and India thinks it has a chance for an in, some power, to weaken China and make India a great power over the region instead I think they'd absolutely do that because it is within the character of the type of dictatorship they are under.

As it is India is moving strongly away from being dependent or reliant on China so the idea they'll get more intertwined I'm afraid goes against the currents, things like the "made in India" initiative, the fact India is gobbling up Chinese manufacturing like for iPhones for instance. India has aspirations to be a regional power. A super-power and with China right next door that kind of limits the kind of influence they can possibly exercise if China continues to rise in power. It is in India's long-term interests that China be stemmed and contained if not outright humiliated and isolated. Right now they're facing tariffs from Trump and resent being told not to buy cheap Russian oil because that brings about higher profits and independence so of course they respond to that by leaning closer to China. Trump also personally pissed off Modi and a lot of the leadership by saying he had anything to do with settling the India-Pakistan conflict earlier this year and in fact taking total credit for that. Those tariffs were put in place by arrogant, racist, deranged Americans who thought they could bully India into joining their side while also offering up tribute like Europe was and locking them into a vassal relationship. India didn't want that and is showing it but the moment the Americans stop behaving like this or perhaps China gets too strong and strident they'll re-evaluate again.

The US has suffered a short-term defeat at least for Trump's administration length likely in turns of prying India from China. But China's fortune is not India's, they aren't complimentary like the Russia-China relationship but competitors where both have huge populations striving to be powerful parts of the global production chain.

The US desires as one of its designs to lock China into being forever a low value, lower tech parts supplier and assembler that is behind the west technologically and has to license or buy its high technology from the west, the sales of which are conditioned on good behavior and submission to the west which will own the IP and the brands to pocket most of the profits. India would benefit from such a happening where China is stuck producing say rare earth magnets and circuits while India assembles the phones, tablets, computers, and has its own brands to sell in the west (something China is trying to do right now but is stifled by western sanctions and politicized accusations of spying) and the hope of doing that would go a long way if the west started to allow it a bit.

It may be the US is unable/unwilling to do even this basic carrot on a stick with a trap above it type deal for India and if so and they continue to drive India into China's arms then the west is truly fucked. But India and China will never have the kind of peaceful basis for co-existence that Russia and China have I think. Their interests overlap too much, too much room for friction. Now if they were both socialist states they could definitely turn into a dynamo of great power but India isn't unfortunately.

  • There's only one thing to do. Beat them in the putting the first man on mars contest that they're not even really in (just like the US "beat" the USSR by landing men on the moon). I suggest a one-way trip for Elon. The whole world will golf-clap at this monumental achievement. Oh we should also invest all our national resources in this, strip the defense establishment bare if need be for the materials and people and money to do this.

  • I admit I have thoughts about the string of posters on .ml posting incredibly incendiary Stalin did nothing wrong type memes at liberals. If I was someone trying to get people who are starting to turn onto socialism turned off and to turn them away I'd hit them with exactly that kind of tone-deaf shit. If I was someone trying to get lemmy ml defederated from and isolated from the rest of the federiverse. Again I'd post tons of exactly that shit.

If I were a communist trying to actually educate and knowing anything about my audience I wouldn't post incendiary memes like those these accounts are posting which I doubt convince anyone not already convinced and do a lot of work turning people off. Know where your audience is and post things that push the envelope a little but don't immediately trigger reflexive denial or dismissal.

It annoys me they're allowed to operate unimpeded and I honestly wouldn't be shocked in the piefed devs or someone from MWoG anti-ML community or the world devs or someone in those circles was behind those accounts for obvious reasons.

  • I think it's fucked if you do and fucked if you don't in their case. Obviously criminalizing gay people is backwards and wrong and this isn't a solution but if we can unpack this for a moment I think we can get at the reasoning.

Right now Africa faces a big problem in the form of ISIS and other "moderate rebel" islamist or similar extremist groups funded by, aided by, created by, controlled by, doing the work of the west to destabilize governments to prevent any power centers against the west forming and to leave much of the continent open to pillaging if they can topple governments and install some corrupt warlords like Syria in place instead.

Made worse, Ukraine's intelligence services (created and bred by the CIA for maximum ghoulishness and highly experienced in assassinations, use of drones, clandestine cross border operations due to their war with Russia) are actively aiding and abetting these groups in highly sophisticated ways including sending special forces, drones, training rebels on use of drones, delivering weapons, and delivering US/eyes derived intelligence to allow them to pull off spectacular attacks against Russian military advisors and equipment they've bought which they need in the fight against these groups and probably in future to attempt to topple governments and plunge regions into instability.

So from their viewpoint they have an islamist insurgency that feeds like fire feeds on gasoline on perceived un-islamic progressive stuff like gay people getting rights, not being subjected to religious law, not being ostracized, living normal lives from people who buy into that kind of thinking and belief system which is unfortunately a lot. Things like gay people having rights openly is used to whip up a lot of people on the sidelines and convince them oh this goes against god, oh this will bring disaster to the country, oh gay people want to have sex with you and willremoved you, other cheap propaganda and radicalize them into sympathy for or participation with these groups.

On the other hand they have maybe a small amount of gay people that are open enough that they can be found and recruited by the CIA. Of the two one seems at the surface a much more manageable problem while the other more pressing and immediate.

Add in the west's history of rainbow washing imperialism and it's not surprising what choice they made. One can hope they try to educate the population on these matters but the fact is it will be a steep uphill battle met with fierce western backed (often through gulf states) organized resistance to any choice they make.

The west has essentially created this situation of a rock and a hard place and one path appears much easier.

(Though I admit to not being educated on just how much LGBTQ+ rights are being used as a wedge in these countries if at all and/or for stirring up sympathy for rebel groups so maybe this isn't right and it's just prejudice of the leadership)

  • Ah but that would send the dangerous message to the proles that they have some right to sleep in for health which might carry over into adulthood as demands for flexible work hours to suit human bodies and lifestyles!

Better to beat them down as children, regiment them, abuse them, force them to take drugs and get used to it early so it's seen as normal and part of "growing up"

(And as a bonus it generates demand for our caffeine drug market further taking money from their pockets and adding another cost they have to bear just to earn a living)

  • D.C. is different TBH. It's not a state, it doesn't have state's rights constitutionally. It's a at the pleasure of congress and/or the president type of government situation so that ruling doesn't necessarily have the same implications. Originally it didn't even have things like a mayor or city council and was just administered by the federal government directly until congress passed an act giving them some local government and representation. Dems deserve (lots of) shit and there isn't much harm in just standing up to Trump and forcing him to dissolve D.C. city government and anger residents but I tend to doubt that ruling gave them any ammo in this fight.

  • More sanctions on Russia's trading partners as I'm not sure more sanctions on Russia will do much at this point. That or he goes for a two-sides thing, sanctions Russia's trading partners AND Ukraine and blames them both while talking about how it's Biden's fault.

I have no doubt the SCO summit which seems to be trying to herald the end of western hegemony is weighing on him and he probably is angry about that and wants to punish those most involved (China, India) so sanctions on trade with Russia accomplish that. Though he could also kick the can down the road 2 weeks, go to China for the big impressive parade and then slap on the sanctions though I find that unlikely.

  • This certainly looks less like this guy genuinely cares and understands the situation than is trying to raise his own profile and portfolio up with some activism related programming. At the very least he has a serious tech-bro "I am very special, gifted and smart" god complex even higher than that typical of much of silicon valley. Boils down to hyper-individualistic brain-worms promoting an aversion to feedback, working with others, etc. Wants this to be their very special only their own stamp on it work. Or you know is an OP.

  • Near ddee's tier art yet quite appropriate.

  • anyone who needs something like this to individually consider it a genocide is...idk

An amoral monster. Lost in the sauce. Pro-genocide.

As are the writers of this report and recognition of genocide which is too little too late and not worded nearly strongly or clearly enough. Better than never in an absolute sense but too little to change the facts and still too light in condemnation, reserving it for the current government/ruling parties/prime minster rather than the entity as a whole with its population who demonstrably in polls support genocide. It's been obvious that genocidal intentions exist towards the Palestinian people for decades now and none of these groups have called them out or rightly castigated the existence of the zionist entity as an existence predicated on and depending on genocide and that without genocide it cannot exist or continue to exist.

Further the equivocation on Oct 7th, the idea history started on Oct 7th is naked cowardice and intellectual dishonesty. It's like starting history at the events of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and condemning the Jews there for killing some Germans without you know including context on how the Nazis forced them into there, discriminated against Jews and openly announced their intent to genocide Jews and had been oppressing them for years. The facts are the case for genocide is much stronger against "israel" when you include pre-Oct 7th history including snipers maiming children during the peaceful great march of return, the decades of settler violence the IOF doesn't stop and protects by preventing retaliation, the various discriminatory policies and half a century of hateful, genocidal, supremacist rhetoric of erasure.

  • More like Bill Gates and Blackrock or whoever will buy up the farms and plant things they can sell abroad and/or form cartels to conspire to raise consumer prices in the US to further empty the wallets of American workers and to exercise direct control in the climate change world over a vital resource.

America is never going to be dependent on foreign food imports. It's one of the most amazingly fertile, productive food growing countries on earth. The sheer amount of useful land, good soil, and access to water plus good climate makes her self-sufficient. She could be a fortress and the only impact from losing foreign imports would be no more off-season produce, no more of certain exotic goods, and much higher prices for certain things normally kept low by cheap imports. They'd still have tons of wheat, corn, soy, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. They'd want a bit for many oils but Canada produces a ton of canola, they could increase corn oil production and substitute soy-bean oil.

Even as everyone else gets fucked over by climate change the models I've seen show the US will continue to have tons of good growing regions while droughts ravage Europe, Asia, Africa, etc (Russia will also somewhat benefit but I'm not convinced their soil is as good and that the water access won't be a problem, also melted permafrost regions may just stay hot, too hot for farming a lot of things). Just one more reason why the US is so happy to let climate change rip. It will horribly damage their rivals and leave them in an advantageous position.

  • Without knowing more about this person and your relationship to them I guess my very cautious way to approach it would be to mention in a vague kind of way how -some people- might find working for an arms-maker a troubling thing to do and given the controversy around such things they should perhaps give thought to whether they feel it's a good fit they'd feel comfortable with and good about. That it's nice to have a well-paying job but would it be something that would cause them any kind of stress or moral dilemma that would make the job harder or would it be something they truly are comfortable with.

I do think mentioning the pigeon-holing cuddlefish mentioned would be good too. How unfortunately once you get experience in a specific sector like this you tend to be guided into jobs like that in future and is that the kind of career track they're hoping for or were they hoping for something else in another industry and if so wouldn't it be better to take something that leads more clearly into that rather than this?

  • Yeah that's the worrying thing about this. Ukraine is allowing them to create tendrils of trained, battle-hardened fascist paramilitaries with contacts with others around the world for the CIA to use in the coming years and decades for all kinds of mischief all around the world. It's bringing together all the scum, radicalizing them further into reactionary politics, training them, giving them contacts and even after Ukraine ends these people will be carrying out coups, color revolutions, Maidan type false flags, etc for several decades to come in Latin America, in Africa, in Europe potentially, in Asia, etc. Even as the US loses one pawn it positions itself and builds a wider network for the next phase globally.

  • I don't think the Russians would kill him because he's a key witness to atrocities and subterfuge that could prove or provide evidence (even unwittingly in memoirs or friendly interviews) that would further Russia's case of Maidan definitively being a color revolution by the US. Frankly removing him from the picture this late after the Nazi coup, after the total take-over of government wouldn't help them.

On the other hand the CIA would really want to prevent him blabbing about and establishing more hard links to US color revolutions and support apparatus and the SBU would kill him on their orders or to tie off a loose end of their own for the afterwar period to prevent any real justice or establishing of facts and leave it a he said she said situation between Ukraine, Russia, and the west as to Maidan/2014 and all that followed. Ukraine is losing so doing this kind of work to prevent accountability, spare those who are currently more hidden who were part of the apparatus by cutting off the visible parts makes most sense.

Beyond that Zelensky doing things to remove threats who might want to kill him for losing and/or support the bandarite hardliner faction in the elections is also a plausible motive.

I just don't think the Russians have a reason at this late stage to do that when they're finally winning and there might be a reckoning and a lot of these freaks will be blabbing about how the fall of the reich was not their fault and how great they were at the start doing all these other things and others are to blame.

  • It is uncanny how good the zionist intelligence is.

They were able to bomb the bunker the Iranian president and command staff were in and only didn't target the supreme leader because he went totally off grid and not even the military or civilian leadership were able to find or contact him. They found and bombed Nasrallah's bunker and killed him. They've successfully killed most of Hamas senior leadership as they existed at the start of Oct 7th. And now this.

How do they do this? I get having deep penetration of a society like Lebanon because you've been at war with them for decades and plan to destroy them eventually anyways. I get the Gaza situation because of starvation, deprivation, turn-coats, blackmail networks. But how do they do this in Yemen? It really must involve signals intelligence and extensive hacking campaigns of an unprecedentedly sophisticated level.

The axis of resistance is going to continue to struggle as long as they can do these highly effective decapitating strikes.

  • What do you expect to happen when you step on another gang's turf and openly disrespect them?

  • It's being clearanced. The company would have to throw them out within months anyways as they can't sell expired masks and can't use them and I guess they must have many tens of thousands of these to get rid of. Some of it could be them just not wanting to carry them anymore either, wanting to free up the space but most are probably not that new either. That and probably some weird automated pricing system as even then it does seem kind of low.

  • In my experience with this (type) of mask the elastic does fail first after a few reuses. But I can't say definitively that the mask itself wasn't compromised before that as I have no way to scientifically test it. Sometimes I get discoloration on the inside too maybe from my skincare products or something which probably doesn't impact function but does make them a little gross seeming to rewear after that.

If you replaced the elastic on these you could maintain a good seal through many re-uses but I understand the filtering doesn't last forever. I've seen people on reddit say I think 40 total hours absolute max wear-time and that's assuming multiple rest periods in a paper bag for several days or a week between like 4-5 wears I think of maybe 8 hours max each. I am pretty sure that liquids compromise the filtering. So if you enter an area with misters/mist or very high humidity or get water all over them that compromises the filtering I believe and is cause to discard.
