  • Actually that should be Sam Altman not NVIDIA.

And actually as someone else noted it's more like the raw constituent parts of DRAM have been bought up for the purposes of being assembled into a different kind of memory that will NEVER be able to be used on consumer systems. So lets say the AI bubble pops January 2027, there will be no glut of cheap DRAM, DRAM will remain very expensive due to a backlog of demand and time needed to shift production back to making DRAM. The HBM they make will either be sold at fire-sale prices to data centers, enterprises, etc leading to even more AI use but in different hands or less centralized or be bought up and destroyed or held to keep prices of even that sector high or at least not crashing entirely.

In the Simpsons example that guy is a scalper who is going to resell the tickets, you can get access to them, the tickets aren't being turned into something else, they still have the same function and utility, the price is just inflated. In our case the DRAM modules for consumer PCS simply won't be assembled, the key parts of them are being turned into different things entirely of no use or compatibility to consumers.

There is a real danger of a knock-on effect that it's not possible to produce the necessary DRAM for computers leading to other component sources shifting to AI/data center/enterprise production which leads to a complete collapse of the consumer PC market due to high prices, low availability, etc, etc, which proceeds to cause a shift to "cloud" computing under the ever-watchful surveillance eye where you own nothing and have to pay the various top tech companies a monthly fee to rent access.

This will also incentivize device makers including automakers to connect their devices and do the processing of most data on centralized services rather than shelling out for the 2GB of DRAM they'd previously put in the car or whatever the device is. Meaning less privacy, mandatory connected capability, more fees eventually passed onto the workers, better of the surveillance state. The interests of tech capitalists are now completely aligned with the surveillance state's interests for the first time in quite some time (previously there was at least some public friction and what surveillance they did was via backroom secret deals that meant evidence gathered couldn't be used in open court only by the intelligence community).

  • Supremely ridiculous. All of you people posted pictures of your kids and let them and indoctrinate them into posting pictures of themselves on Zuckbook and Zuckbook properties like instagram. Zuck is in photos on the island. Even if Zuck is too much of a robot lizard to abuse kids himself he would sell a package access of photos to kids to his pedo creepy friends cheap and probably include a list of their interests and names of their friends too.

Compared to that a school photo is... fuck off, just fuck the fuck off with this prudish nonsense. Someone else said it but I sadly agree, at this point the result of the Epstein thing is going to be more Christian panic stranger danger nonsense and hyper-vigilance and freaking out at random people taking photos of scenic landscapes because your kids happen to be in the corner of the view and no actual movement against powerful pedophiles. More pizza parlors will be shot up and more enraged turbo-Facebook user moms will start screaming matches in public with wild accusations but the institutions, the powerful men, etc will continue to operate unhindered while the proles bicker among themselves and jump at shadows. Eventually in 15 years most people will begin to disbelieve it was anything other than another satanic panic and begin to question whether it was all just an overreaction and over-correct by doubting kids even when there's really reason to believe and allowing in even more surveillance because they don't want to be like the prudes they were manipulated into being a decade ago.

  • Updated November 2025, deeply concerning. Extremely concerning. Even the best case that they forgot means they have an inadequate warning system. Only a timely alarm actually matters or helps.

  • The problem with all this is he knows from COVID he can catch this too and he's quite afraid of dying. So unless he had his "brilliant men" come up with a vaccine that the virus can't evolve immunity to or evade through evolutionary changes in the population he wouldn't want this. He's also racist enough that he wouldn't want to kill all the good white Americans while not touching foreigners who are "ripping us off".

I'm convinced if you offered him a magic wand with one wish and the choices were he becomes a hit and beloved broadway producer with a successful play and is back in New York and beloved with all his old friends and even his enemies admitting he's done a great job or he becomes dictator that he'd probably take the broadway success route.

  • The shittier it's written the more bugs it has, the more bugs, the more back-doors to find and exploit over the years.

(I'm only half joking, that might actually be the strategy here, that and making the code hard to scrutinize and properly analyze for such things by increasing complexity)

  • Counterpoint: Please don't.

That's one thing I do not miss from old phpbb forum culture. Annoying flashing gifs, catchy lines that get old quick. People putting a paragraph of text there so even a simple two word response is huge. Half the people who use them aren't half as clever as they think they are and the other half aren't clever enough to make up for it.

  • this going to be an absolutely unpluggable source of intel leaks

Not too hard to make useless. Do a limited hang-out by the CIA, make a prediction or two that don't really threaten operational security say against an actor who can't defend themselves anyways (not Iran), get it right, reap hundreds of thousands, get on the radar of watchers. Then to obfuscate an attack make an intentionally false prediction to mislead Iran and any other watchers, lose only some of the money you made building up cred and put the rest in the CIA slush fund. Rinse and repeat until no one believes these things anymore. Even without the making money first stage it wouldn't cost them more than a few million up to 8 figures maybe to just burn money on it and that's nothing.

  • US smuggled Starlinks into Iran amid riots – WSJ

Not really news to most here but here they're admitting it and saying it was about 6000 units: https://www.rt.com/news/632389-smuggled-starlink-iran-riot/

Interestingly they claim they did this AFTER the internet was cut and I was under the impression that almost immediately there were terminals operating. So is that a deception? Or did they really rush more in there to provide cover for the zionist supplied units already smuggled in which Iran was using to pinpoint spies? By handing out 6000 of them they'd give their spies and valuable assets some cover among a sea of civilians foolish enough to use these things as I doubt they had 6000 agents who needed uplinks so some of that had to be either for a later use or to provide cover.

  • Gaming has been a disaster for discourse. On so many levels.

Gaming made streaming a thing people watched for more than a how-to. Gaming is the origin of at least half the lingo here. Terminally online gamers came up with 50% of the rest.

    Solution: Gamer gulag.

  • Just call them what they really are: BLUE MAGA.

They want to "Make America Great Again". They believe like the chud MAGA that America was once great (we disagree) and that it can be again but that it requires strict, harsh measures against the opposition and sweeping changes. They both believe in the same lie, it's just painted in different colors.

Calling them tankies is inappropriate because they're not like us at all. They are exactly a mirror reflection of Trump's MAGA without being tied to any one person's personality cult but instead to the cult of the Democratic party and whatever figureheads it elevates.

  • Lexar is a western brand and fairly old in computing industry terms. It's also western so I'm not sure if the RAM is counterfeit and not really Lexar or the person responding to them doesn't realize that's a big brand. They've been pushed aside by the more well known names but at one time their SD and similar camera memory cards were considered among the best brands to buy for quality.

  • Venezuela isn't getting invaded or annexed, there is no one for them to fight.

Their president was openly kidnapped, their soldiers were attacked, American forces set foot on their soil. That under any classical definition meets belligerency and an act of war. If China did this to the US and Trump the US would respond violently because it is an act of war. Venezuela being too weak compared to the US and unable to offer any kind of challenge nor to mount an expeditionary force against the US that would stand a chance of doing anything doesn't change what it was.

They were invaded, the invaders left with a prize in the elected president and tried to kill off other persons.

Comparing them to Cuba, China, DPRK etc doesn't make sense, those were all in variously colonized positions and actively repelling occupiers.

And that gave them an advantage, my point exactly. If there's no one on the ground you can even fight, if its neo-colonialism via hybrid-warfare, blockade, lawfare, strikes from the skies you cannot repel, you're still being pseudo-colonized and subjected to colonial type racist violence and steering of your affairs but you can't pick up a gun and murder a local colonial official or policeman, all you have is the people buying peace with them through agreements who you may charitably assume are trying to act in your best interests. It's a degrading, demeaning situation where you cannot even hit back at your oppressors as they operate freely against you delivering blows you must suffer in silence.

Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden, remote warfare, drone-warfare doctrine. A shifting of warfare and imperialist strategy from failed open interventions like the Vietnam war and Korea to economic weapons coupled with precision assassinations, precision destruction, sometimes random terroristic, fear inspiring bombings, and special operations like kidnappings, assassinations, etc. You can only occupy so many countries at once, commit so many forces and when you do those forces are vulnerable to attack, to being killed, to revenge, this makes the domestic populace restless and they grow unsupportive of this death of their own. But you can terrorize dozens of countries with drones, special forces, hybrid-warfare, etc at once for a much lesser cost all without giving the people any foreign bodies to attack and blame, any way to fight back against a power with such technological advantage over you. Sure a rare regional power like Iran and its proxies in Yemen can field weapons advanced enough to lay some scratches on them and force them to act carefully. But Latin America has no Iran. Has no China, has no USSR. Without a supplier of advanced weapons nearby it's hard to stand against the imperialist super-armada when they never make landfall. You imagine romantic jungle warfare of last century but the US may have gotten smart to that and refuses to be drawn into anything allowing its enemies a way to fight back.

It becomes hard to conceptualize struggle against such an enemy that kills you without ever seeing his face or that of any of his emissaries, a certain malaise risks setting in of hopelessness and anguish and resignation. Because what can you do? The humanity in oneself yearns to defend, to protect, to avenge but the means don't exist. The technological barriers, the logistics barriers to inflicting so much as a cut on the enemy becomes too much.

  • CBC claims it's MTF:

McDonald said Van Rootselaar identified as a female, but was assigned male at birth. She started transitioning about six years ago. She dropped out of school around four years ago.

    Source: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/livestory/active-shooter-alert-tumbler-ridge-secondary-school-bc-live-updates-9.7083740

It's a very masculine-coded thing to do so I'd definitely look into the underlying ideology here as it's very rare for women to do this (98% of proper mass shooters who are doing non-interpersonal, non-workplace violence towards basically strangers or very casual acquaintances are men).

That said I'm not sure I buy the Nazi pretending angle thing in this case, who pretends and socially transitions for 6 years before a shooting? I wouldn't rule out that they were a Nazi, or even manipulated and coerced by online Nazism into doing this but we need some evidence not speculation that conveniently fits what we want to be true.

  • McDonald said Van Rootselaar identified as a female, but was assigned male at birth. She started transitioning about six years ago. She dropped out of school around four years ago.

Not fucking good. This will be used to further insinuate that trans people are mentally ill and dangerously unstable and that transitioning makes them that way and used to attack access to care and certainly to argue they shouldn't have guns. Hopefully it just goes away, USians at least will find it harder to get people to care because it happened over the border but in Canada... who can say.

  • And what does it say that the softer one written by a guy in the Epstein files who was probably a court jester for capitalism is easy to find while the reviled Marxist who defended the USSR, Cuba, etc all his life in the face of overwhelming opposition is impossible to find? Clearly one of these is approved opposition POV and other is not.

  • it's really fucking weird how reactionary protestants/evangelicals are in LatAm

How so? It's a reactionary theological strain that's part of a religion whose morals can be summed up as things thought up by a bunch of men 2000 years ago who really liked patriarchal societies and saw them and slavery as fundamentally just or acceptable.

Specifically without even getting into the atheism talking points of which there are many this is something that's heavily influenced by US Christian movements, the Christian movements of an extremely reactionary settler colonial white supremacist empire that has an interest and history in dominating and controlling all of the Americas through whatever means possible. What's weird is anyone calling themselves part of that and seeming to be part of any sincere left, a move I suspect that has less to do with sincere adherence than using it as a cloak to deflect criticism and operate within the context they find themselves in, one where they're forced to appeal to and use religious language, arguments, etc.

Beyond that there's the black cop effect. Where mentally colonized POC will go the extra mile in being reactionary, violent, etc to impress their white masters and instructors with their fervored dedication, proving they are some of the good ones not "savages".

  • And at the end of the day nobody becomes Yemen or Palestine out of choice and you'd be kidding yourself if you think any revolutionary project would choose that position.

The more prosperous people are, the more they have to lose, the less willing they are to take up arms and actually fight the imperialists or suffer for the revolution or for others and the easier it is to compromise today to keep living standards high. The only people who are willing to fight to the degree it takes are already facing death, starvation, obliteration, the lowest of the low conditions of living and have nothing to lose. (See Yemen, see Vietnam during their war for independence, see Cuba when Castro swept through, see China and Mao, see semi-feudal Russia, etc, see the DPRK after resistance against the Japanese barbarity and occupation from a people living at feudal levels).

The moment people actually have something to lose it's oh time to compromise, oh government needs to do some revisionism. So to actually fight and defend the revolution your choices are 1) be a major power like China / USSR that can afford to do that on many levels and withstand such pressure, 2) your people are kept poor, at the lower rungs of life and have less to lose (this is why the western embargo of Cuba is tactically very foolish and seemingly done purely out of spite or for experimentation sake, if they'd let up on things, increased the living standard of Cubans 30 years ago they could now be turning the screws on the Cuban government to force them to make concessions by immiserating the people through hybrid-warfare and salami-slicing their way to 'reforms', but because they've kept up a constant economic war there's nowhere to go for them).

Actually completing the revolution too actually helps massively. The things the DPRK can do with a educated populace, no comprador class domestically and so on have been impressive. Also having a nuclear power preventing invasion and becoming your own nuclear power and before that being able to threaten the western quisling occupation zone. Venezuela and other LatAm pink tide democratic socialist experiments are bogged down by being incomplete revolutions caught in the middle of deep contradictions where any major lessoning of living standards leads to risks of the revolution losing support among the people. They have no way to directly threaten empire or anything truly valuable to empire because it's not on their borders and they have no force projection capabilities. They have no way to resist because their neighbors flee in different directions and refuse to stand together even when they're not being couped.

The US has a very effective playbook for snuffing out sparks of socialism. The only successes still standing are major powers like China and those directly next to and supported and shepherded and protected by those major powers (Vietnam, DPRK). There is Cuba yes but that's because the US is still using the old playbook despite it failing for half a century and one can only suppose it's because of hardened elements within the state preventing any course change on that.

So frankly I don't see anything positive happening until the US gets weaker and suffers a major set-back and defeat that really lessens its power to the point these sparks can actually ignite and burn without having water dumped on them by the US.
