  • Eh, for desktop I'd say we're just about there now. For people who don't use their computers for much more than gaming and web browsing Bazzite works pretty great. Helped a friend who doesn't do much more than that build a PC and install an OS and they seem to be doing fine with it, no complaints so far.

  • I mean in general, "read things -> learn" is a good approach to life imo.

  • The site's about page states the book summaries are AI generated for books the site owner has not even read, and uses Amazon affiliate links. What is even the point of this?

  • I watched this video essay on this topic not too long ago that I really enjoyed (one of the best video essays I've seen so far imo) that I think you might find really helpful and insightful as well! If you end up watching it, let me know what you think: https://youtu.be/4d0Q64SQujY

  • So in other words, gamers are rising up?

  • Yes, exactly. Its killing problem solving ability and learning. Taking the extra time to search around and figure things out helps you learn. Not to mention its poisoning its own well, making legitimate answers harder and harder to find on the web.

  • I don't think its a matter of stowing empathy as much as it is redirecting your energy. I still empathize with those people, but I try to focus energy on my immediate life and the people around me, and thinking about how I can help and improve their lives, support them best, etc. rather than doom scrolling and despairing. Because with the people directly around me I can have a much more tangible impact. I'd like to work up to having a more systemic impact too, but I'm still figuring out that part. But I think its helpful to have a solid base to work from first, you know?

  • Yes the literacy rate has actually been dropping IIRC.

  • A damn nice house, too

  • Why are people downvoting someone for admitting they made a mistake? It takes some courage to do that.

  • Tbh you can reframe all of them as just different flavors of greed

  • Sure but at what energy cost? Compared to a human brain it would be incredibly energy inefficient.

  • Sure, but the bacteria they'd be used to from back then would probably be fairly different from the bacteria we're used to today.

  • Good to see a caring take about BPD out in the wild 🙂 People see it at some evil, terrible thing, but with therapy its gone into remission for me and is quite a lot more manageable! Yea, having that loving community around you makes a huge difference in quality of life. Takes some time and effort to build and find the right people, but boy is it worth it.

  • Outside of the states I assume? In the states the left-most lane is the passing lane.

  • Interesting, was it always that way for you? I feel like for me with books printed on paper I'm actually a lot less picky but for e-readers (or any text on a screen really) the kerning, text size, etc. matters a lot more. The impact is definitely more pronounced for regular screens than e-ink though. Text size I find has the biggest impact on readability on screens for me in general.
