  • You're a Zionist, yet you're not Jewish. So how does that work then?I am disgusted by what you stand for, in exactly the same way, and for the exact same reasons that I abhor what Netanyahu stands for. Only one of you is Jewish. The target of my opposition is genocidal settler colonialism, not race, not religion. So how can my anti-Zionism equate to antisemitism?

Once again SpaceCowboy, you are talking absolute arse gravy of the lowest calibre.

  • There is plenty of evidence of people being demonitized for using certain words or phrases

No, I don't think this is true. I think that the context is what leads to demonetisation. I am not arguing that this is acceptable, but I don't see any evidence that words alone will cause demonetisation. Even the most offensive racial slurs are allowed in the context of e.g. a linguist educating about their origins, or an uncensored music video.

they definitely stop giving you ad revenue if you violate the rules

Yep, and that's fair enough. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom to get paid for speaking.

Youtube specifically has a list of words and phrases that may lead to being demonitized.

I don't think there is such a list, at least not one published by YouTube. Can you find it? I can't.

  • Except that there's no evidence that saying "killed" or "murdered" for example, actually does push you down the algorithm. And if it did, surely saying "unalived" would have the same effect by now, since the algorithm could easily be extended to this term, and it's been in use for ages.People censoring themselves in this way, preemptively, with no certainty that it is making a difference is like late-stage Orwellian batshit insanity. It's enough of a reason on its own to avoid those platforms. When even the creators are disingenuous enough to self-censor inoffensive words in an effort to appease an opaque algorithm, the content cannot possibly be meaningful.

  • All my homies support Ukraine and Palestine because they're the occupied countries.

  • Ok, and do you have the choice? So, you could eat fresh, healthy food today if you choose to? Because if so, then that's not the choice I'm taking about, is it.

  • That's a nice story but it has very little to do with what I was asking. Have you ever faced the hard choice of continued hunger or cheap food? Can you envisage a situation where someone might have to make that choice?

  • So a gun to the head at the McDonald's counter isn't realistic, but what is realistic is an empty belly and a choice between unhealthy, cheap food and further hunger. I find it very easy to imagine that scenario, because I've been in it. Have you? Or can you imagine how a person could be?

  • "that's the new military grey bit, there. That's the dowdy, old, nasty ocean grey bit, there. "

"...or was it the other way round?"

  • My last car was too. For about 50 currency units I bought a screen which plugged into the audio jack and stuck on the windscreen, which worked like a charm for two years until I got a new car. Navigation, phone, music, search - all voice controlled via phone in a 2010 Mazda

  • The great thing about family is you get to talk to them. If they're so upset about who you voted for, maybe listen to why it upsets them so much, and take the time to patiently explain what led you to that choice. Some members of my family voted for things I vehemently disagree with and we have never properly fallen out over it. In fact, I've changed a few minds because I am politically engaged and can usually answer their questions satisfactorily. If, however, they were to vote for a fascist because they are fascist, then I would cut them off. But not because of their vote. Because of their fascism. Fortunately my family are not like that.

  • Colombia

  • That's how it feels, sure. But you can't properly control what other people do. You can control what you do.In situations where you've been fucked over, you can't force the other person to feel guilty, try to make amends or seek your forgiveness. That would be great, but you can't make it happen. All you can do is move on from it, which means forgiving them. If you hold a grudge, that's mental effort, time and energy that you're continuing to spend on them, because of the shit that they did. If you can forgive them, not only does it make you a better person, it also removes the control they have over you. It's not exactly satisfying, but ask yourself what would be. The past isn't going to change, and that asshole isn't going to suddenly grow a conscience. Don't let their actions ruin who you are by getting consumed with bitter feelings!I know this is kind of general, and some things are a lot harder to forgive than others, but I find it's amazing how much easier it gets as time passes. I've been treated horrendously over the years and I refuse to hold a grudge. I've shaken hands and made jokes with past abusers, which is probably the biggest "fuck you" I could give them. They know what they did; I'm still happy and functioning. They have no power over me, and I certainly will never let them close enough to do that again.I know this is all a bit unsolicited on my part here, but I just recognised what you wrote as something I've felt too, and I would've liked someone to tell me this when I was. I'm not trying to preach.

  • Aw thanks 🥹

  • My ancestors are proud of me, because I know how to spell "disappointment", and have never written a misspelled word in black marker whilst trying to condescend to people I should be supporting.

  • There's a hidden division in your question, whether intentional or not. "Can" they do that. Do you mean "are they legally allowed to do that", or "do they have the power to do that"?In the former, no. In the later, possibly, yes.

  • Reputational damage. The remaining 0.00000152% of people for whom genocide is just dandy, but raping prisoners with truncheons is an absolute red line are totally livid now, and will never forgive Israel.

  • Yeah the guy has just listened to Clarke/Baxter's Sunstorm on audiobook and "had a great idea", I reckon.

  • Yes. And I still maintain that it is, despite your apparent belief to the contrary. A cause is not an effect.
