  • This is dope thanks man. I knew I could do it with Pipewire virtual devices, just hadn't fully researched it yet. I been using the StreamController app for my elgato deck. It's been solid, I'm wondering if I can adapt this to their knobs or I should look at open deck.

  • This was my experience exactly. Luckily my old arctis still works I'm just terrified of the day when it doesn't

  • No chat mix is what kills it for me. I'm spoiled with independent volume control between chat and game output. If I can find a solution for this it would open up a world of headsets for me. Steelseries used to do it on headset, now you need their shitty app on newer sets.

  • I've also been on the search for the perfect headset. I have 3 requirements :

    • I want two independent output devices to show up natively without software, 1 for main output and 1 for voice chat output
    • I want on the fly mixing between the 2 outputs, preferably without additonal software, with a physical knob
    • I want good sidetone, preferably with volume knob

Checking all these boxes has been near impossible. I currently have an older steel series arctis and it does it. Newer models tho and almost every OEM out there has some shit software that's windows only. Newer steel series for instance only has the chat mix as a virtual output in software. I know I can achieve similar with Pipewire. The only headset I found that was close was the audeze gaming headset but the sidetone was awful, static and crackle.

If someone has a rec that can check all those boxes for me let me know.

  • I've tried most of these. A lot seem more geared towards slack alternatives or more like work chat type things. Voice chat is critical and some lack it or have it tacked on. Teamspeak is the opposite which text chat is tacked on. The closest alts right now are stoat, fluxer and root. Fluxer and stoat and open source, root is VC funded. I'm pushing for fluxer personally. But he is getting hug of death at the moment.

  • My money's on fluxer. I got a good vibe with him.

  • Good news: I work for Angel Investigations. Bad news: I have to figure out MFK for Fred, Cordy and Lilah

  • My issues with matrix were mostly around the voice services.

  • Yeah I was Hella confused reading this article. Was hoping some hero lobbed a molotov at the fascists.

  • 100% agree. Just wish this was common understanding amongst the masses. But here I am on lemmy and not reddit, where most folks are aligned on FOSS or death.

  • I'm checking out fluxer but it's getting hug of death right now. Root also looks promising but they are closed source and VC backed which gives me pause.

  • Haha I opened a github issue on that and the main Dev confirmed they were getting the HoD.

  • As someone who has spent the last 2+ years testing revolt/stoat, matrix with element, and teamspeak, desperately searching for any viable discord alternative, I'm very interested in this. Where did you come across it? I tried to create an account but stuck pulsing on a loading screen.

  • And the number keeps going down because... That's good marketing. IEEE rebranded 802.11ax as wifi 6 because... Marketing. They can do it too.

  • Just a reminder for anyone that thinks 3nm chips means the transistors themselves are only 3nm, they are bigger than that. 3nm is the marketing name for the fab process they are using.

  • Came to the comments looking for this. Thread MVP.

  • And the bottom 2 panels should maybe be reversed?

  • Unredacted epstein files. And throw in jfk while your at it. Oh and maybe I guess also if conformal cyclic cosmology is legit and the answer to the grand unification of einstenien relativity and quantum mechanics, but mostly the first 2.
