Your bait of falsehood takes this carp of truth; And thus do we of wisdom and of reach, With windlasses and with assays of bias, By indirections find directions out.

  • They want it more

  • Readthemaple is good for Canadian left geopolitical analysis. Thenarwhal is good for environmental news in Canada. APTN is an indigenous operated Canadian news outlet but they are not explicitly leftist.

  • I believe MoA and simplicius both have worthwhile content in general, but hexbear note that both authors have chud brainworms that come out at times. Also, imo simplicius has fallen off in the last year or so.

  • I mean it is unalloyed bad news for Canadian autoworkers, but since Canada's industrial policy with respect to autoworkers is already a failure that pays out foreign shareholders more than workers, it's hard not to see the silver lining of cheaper, better, non-nazi manufactured EVs in Canada.

  • I wonder what the retaliation against Canada will be from the US. I could see both state level retaliation as well as musk doing something stupid to lock down the Canadian tesla charger network.

  • This is probably the most normal thing she's said

  • grip: combat racing is fun. I also have enjoyed various need for speed games. NFS Heat and NFS Rivals were both fun.

  • I saw someone commenting that the lack of US naval assets near Iran was a sign that there wouldn't be an attack, but that seems a bit wrong to me. My understanding is that any US surface navy assets meaningfully close to Iran would be in danger of antiship missiles.

  • nakedcapitalism with a good article by friend of the pod, Michael Hudson on the US weaponization of the global oil trade. His summary points:

The Key Demands of the U.S. Rules-Based Order Relating to Oil Are:

    1. Control of the world’s oil trade is to remain a U.S. privilege

    1. The Oil Trade must be priced and paid for in U.S. dollars

    1. The Petrodollar Rule

    1. “Green” energy alternatives to oil are to be discouraged, and the phenomenon of global warming and extreme weather denied.

    1. No laws apply to or limit U.S. rules or policies

A valuable part of Hudson's analysis is that he describes how the US actually benefits from controlling the oil trade and from imperial interference in oil producing nations. The benefit isn't "we plundered the oil and now the US has cheap/free oil to work with," it's a much subtler and indirect form of benefit.

  • Yes certainly could be. I mean even in these super thin markets, who is really buying NYC coin by Eric Adams in 2026. I've always looked at these shit coins as plays by shady bitcoin millionaires but yeah there's no reason these buys couldn't go the other way. It's like a stupider version of laundering money through the high end art market.

  • Rubio must be fuming

  • Eric Adams rugged some rubes to the tune of a few million bucks.

    https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/01/13/former-bitcoin-mayor-eric-adams-faces-usd3-million-rugpull-allegation-after-issuing-nyc-coin

Analytics showed that a wallet linked to the token’s deployer removed roughly $2.5 million in USDC liquidity near the market’s peak.

Adams said the token would fund efforts to combat antisemitism and “anti-Americanism” through an unnamed nonprofit. He did not disclose the identities of co-founders or provide details on how funds would be managed.

Incredible stuff here folks. This isn't really newsworthy but we must take what joy we can in these dark times

  • Jpow and the fed are in trouble with Trump.

This nakedcapitalism roundup is a bit out of date (markets didn't seem to care much about the white house flinging shit at the fed), but worth a look.

this article on fortune talks about the challenges of the fed building renovation, basically it's built in the swamp of DC so there's shitty subsoil, lots of foundation work needed, and asbestos issues. perhaps also buried gold, who knows.

I don't have time to pull quotes from these articles at the moment. clearly this kind of 'fed independence' has implications for the line going up, but more relevant to the newsmega is the impact of US fed rates on global politics. Comrade XHS has posted extensively about the importance of fed rates on Chinese provincial/municipal borrowing.

  • yes, it appears he has ascended to become one of the immortals. his weekly newsmega posts are an echo of his presence

or maybe he's been reincarnated as another username on these threads

  • We have the news. We have the emojis. We need posters. Posters like Lieutenant XHS, Sargent Marmite, and Commissar 72T. DM me to feature effort posts and good threads in the newsmega/newscomm here (including your own).

Sgt. @MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net on the US military assets needed to execute different types of strikes on Iran. This builds off of their earlier post last week.

  • The truth is that Denmark didn't fight against the Nazis during WWII. More Danes died fighting for the Nazis than fighting against them.

What? How is that possible? Were there that many nazi sympathizers or was the initial invasion by the nazis that successful that Danes were bowled over and annexed before large scale combat?

  • Whenever I see these types of stories I wonder what fucking project these people think they've been part of. Like this isn't even "we fought on the same side against the nazis", this is "we fought on the same side as eschatological genocidaires to build a narcostate for child fuckers"

  • I don't think it was your intent to use a gendered insult but nevertheless please don't.
