  • Oof yeah that's rough. Mine was years ago in my early 20s. She never got to see my sister become an adult, or to meet my wife, or to see me blossom into a somewhat healthy and responsible adult. Mourning is rough, but you get through it, it feels like nothing will be ok again, but you find a new ok.

    He wishes he was president of a thriving country in a thriving time. He will likely never get over the fact that he isn't JFK but is instead Hoover (for any non Americans, Hoover is the one who really fucked up the great depression in remarkably similar ways). FDR was the sort of man who could not only get that divorcee into bed, but get her to stop living so damn self destructively while doing so, and it begins with an honest appraisal of the situation and seeing the value underneath anyways. Donald Trump has never been someone capable of doing that with anyone or anything.

    And yeah, the scotch line has worked for me.

    For real though I strongly agree with the thesis here. Don't give the carney (as in carnival person, not the Canadian politician) a stage, and especially don't give the clown a respected stage unless you want him to use it to mock the stage and all it stands for. Trump revels in public speaking and direct attention, and he hates writing outside tweets. Hell, congress can openly rebutt and fact check a written state of the union.

    The institutions and norms are broken. That's bad, but you don't fix a damaged deck by replacing the broken part of one board and painting over the other damage, you check the structures and you replace anything that might be damaged, and you try to make it able to resist what happened. The wood of our deck grew soft after incomplete repairs to damage and people kept jumping on it and stabbing it trying to break it for a long time, then this jackass showed up with an axe swearing he'd fix it. Now it's partly on those who let him try, but there's a lot of damage to fix and we really need to take this opportunity to do that and fix some errors in the initial designs that seemed good at the time

  • I'm a huge fan of lights that simulate the sunrise. They make me wake up fully and comfortably. The absolute perfect way to start my day. Unfortunately it works equally well on my wife who goes to bed and wakes up several hours after I do and hates that thing. Eventually I'm likely to win on this fight, but until I'm too deaf for alarms or she and I have to wake up at the same time, I suck it up and accept that I love her more than a comfortable start to my day.

    I will not hate the rich for any joy they take in life except where it harms those who can't walk away. I will hate them for their theft from us and attempt to control us and for their hypocrisy to those of us who labor and our friends, family, and neighbors who cannot.

  • Ace people without kinks do not have kinks and have not been included in this tier list. Neither have been the people who find people attractive but have no particular focus to their attraction beyond finding people attractive for the same reason. It's not "I think boobs are part of what makes a woman attractive" it's "oh I'm an absolute tit girl". It's just that it's extremely common to have a sexual focus on one or more sex characteristics or a specific normative body type.

  • And I've not met many men with 10 kids who are super into doing the whole "dividing the labor of parenting evenly" thing, and I went to catholic schools, I knew some big families. And even if he had been the type to do that, you aren't winding up being the breadwinner for a family with 10 kids and having both low stress finances and a low stress job. So adding in lots of extra home duties and possibly reduced financial capabilities and mourning will probably wreck you.

    That said, I've never met a family that large where the parents kept actually parenting beyond number 3 or 4. Some of the most horrifically parentified people I ever met were middle daughters of large families. Also the kids are struggling too, and each of them is likely to have taken some lasting psychic damage from being abandoned by their dad, even temporarily, shortly after their mom died.

    Tier 1: primary and secondary sex characteristics (my breast fetish is cliche); indicators of health or fertility such as muscles and flat/bigger stomachs (depending on whether starvation or obesity is a bigger concern where you are). This zone is the default, people assume you're into this.

    Tier 2: other body parts such as feet, pits, body hair; extrapolations from tier 1 kinks such as lactation and post workout stink; I'll also throw in role related ones such as mom/dad bods, being into certain professions or older/younger (adult) partners; also atypical body variants and body types not associated with health or fertility. This zone is normal but not the default

    Tier 3: I'd say is where you get into light bdsm, humanoid monster fuckers, etc. This zone is stuff where it's way more common than people act, but still not the sort of thing normal people will casually mention

    Tier 4: heavier bdsm, nonhuman monsterfuckers. This is the "hear me out" zone and the realm of you know you're kinky af, but it's generally considered prudish to have a problem with people liking it, but not to not want to hear anything about it

    Tier 5: scat, flatulence, bug chasing, and other things where even the tier 4 people are often uncomfortable with it. Typically gross and/or destructive
