  • True, but we still need to use bourgeois platforms for matters of agitation and propaganda. We need to get people there away from it, otherwise the platform will just become a right wing echo chamber.

  • This post reminds me of Trotsky's interview with Mateo Fossa:

I will take the most simple and obvious example. In Brazil there now reigns a semifascist regime that every revolutionary can only view with hatred. Let us assume, however, that on the morrow England enters into a military conflict with Brazil. I ask you on whose side of the conflict will the working class be? I will answer for myself personally—in this case I will be on the side of “fascist” Brazil against “democratic” Great Britain. Why? Because in the conflict between them it will not be a question of democracy or fascism. If England should be victorious, she will put another fascist in Rio de Janeiro and will place double chains on Brazil. If Brazil on the contrary should be victorious, it will give a mighty impulse to national and democratic consciousness of the country and will lead to the overthrow of the Vargas dictatorship. The defeat of England will at the same time deliver a blow to British imperialism and will give an impulse to the revolutionary movement of the British proletariat. Truly, one must have an empty head to reduce world antagonisms and military conflicts to the struggle between fascism and democracy. Under all masks one must know how to distinguish exploiters, slave-owners, and robbers!

So basically, speaking about democracy or regime change when your country is being besieged by imperialist powers is just a betrayal of their working class. Dictatorship x democracy is nothing but a nonsense talking point of liberals and one that does not strengthen national sovereignty or the working class conscience. Imperialism and anti-imperialist struggle is still the biggest contradiction of our times.

  • Usually the Grunts in every military are people drafted from the poorest social classes, the ones that have little to lose.

  • And then we have this war connected with the popping of the AI bubble.

  • US people aren't any more stupid than any other people in the world. The biggest problem of the US (the majority, since there are a few true comrades there as well) is that you expect every four years a savior will fall from the heavens and solve all your problems without you having to move your asses.

It's your job as a socialist to do something. If you have nothing better to do, read theory. If you know theory, then agitate. If people are agitated, then demonstrate.

  • People in the West will only learn the hard way. But, you can't blame them all, this is a result of a false conscience from a century of propaganda. There are cracks, but it is still holding.

  • Stay strong, my (Brazilian) comrade. Capitalism stretches our willpower and stamina to the limit, but we need to keep going, if not for us, for our family or for our cause.

I am constantly feeling at the edge of burnout, with just a little push remaining before throwing me into depression. I do use food as a coping mechanism, but it isn't being enough and now this addiction is starting to take its toll. I'm past overwheight, crossing the 80 kg line. I don't have energy to do exercise and between all the demanding job activities and daily chores I wouldn't have enough time, anyway. Now I also have a bad knee and back pain, as a consequence of neglecting physical activity and being overweight.

If I can give you any advice (which I probably won't follow, personally - o velho ditado "faça o que eu digo mas não faça o que eu faço"), is that you should stop with your addictions ASAP to avoid them having a snowball effect on you.

But yeah, we live in capitalism, with all stress and pressure, so I'm not in a position to tell people how they should cope. The best I can do is give a positive message. And I'm rooting for you, comrade, and hope you feel better soon.

  • Congrats! Hope you get the spot and a nice pay!

  • White collar criminals in capitalist countries are only concerned when they fuck with the bourgeoisie. Then they know the state will go after them in full force.

  • This woman seriously need to learn about European colonialism...

  • There was this belief, in Russian socialist circles (which does not come only from Trotsky, but also from Plekhanov, and some other Bolsheviks and Mensheviks), of Russia being a backward country that needed the aid of more advanced countries, which would do their own revolutions and then would help the Soviet Union to develop and cure it of its backwardness. This is because Russia wasn't fully industrialized and had this very big mass of peasants who wanted to stick to their old ways of life.

  • Just look at which companies the Norwegian sovereign fund invest on. Not to mention Norwegian mining companies abroad.

  • I don't know much about Diego Ruzzarin (which is a shame, since he is a Brazilian). I only saw a podcast where he said he was student of Armesilla and when I searched more about the latter, I instantly hated him. So in the end I never gave Diego too much attention.

  • I see the contradictions within the US are going to inevitably lead to revolutionary period. However I don't share your optimism. The revolution can only win or resist if there's an organized class councious proletarian organization. If the reactionaries win but there's no such org still fighting clandestinely, what we can hope is the repetition of Germans in the WWII... A fascist imperialist regime with no opposition. So, while I am hopeful, I am not optimistic about what is going on.

  • I don't know, but I smell a revolutionary period brewing... If orgs are able to take advantage of it. But even if it's bad for the US, the global south would really benefit from a civil war in the US. A temporary benefit, though, as if the reactionary side wins, we can expect the US doubling on war and imperialism, as they wouldn't have an opposition.

  • I am sure there are economic criticisms we can make of them like the economy not being great and not being diverse enough, but given they are under brutal sanctions it is hard to really expect much. The claim that not achieving wealth or diversity is proof a country is not socialist is also the same argument Maoists use against Cuba, but it's just a bad argument because diversifying is hard without a lot of money and external investments which sanctioned countries don't have access to.

Venezuela did diversify. For example, its communes developed agricultural cooperatives in order to achieve food self-sufficiency. However more complex industries like pharmaceuticals, green energy, automobiles, etc can't be built overnight. We are not talking about 19th century standards of industry, 21st century industry is infinitely more complex. Venezuela didn't have an opportunity to absorb Western tech like China did.

  • I never bought into this far right shit, but I used to access content that was meant as right wing propaganda. I used to browse 9gag a lot, just to have some laughs. But then I started thinking the memes were becoming less funny and more racist, until I stopped going there and instead went to Reddit. Suddenly I discovered socialist subreddits and got hooked into the theory.
