Of all the things to quit over, this is a pretty solid one. Now, whether or not that's the same guy we see today...
Elon Musk is stepping away from his roles on two of Donald Trump’s advisory councils following the president’s decision to pull the United States out of the Paris climate agreement.
So I decided to look up the base model F150 Lightning.
It has a 360 camera, heated 8-way adjustable power seats, light bars, whatever "Copilot360" is, a 12" touch screen, another 12" screen instead of a gauge cluster, LED steering headlights, a power frunk, and a 2.4 kW inverter.
$65k. I don't need literally any of those features. "Base model". Lol.
It's interesting seeing the R1S and EV9 on one end and Bolts and Leafs on the other and imagining how else Tesla could have spent that Cybertruck time and money...
I have a few friends with EVs who live in apartments. Some people can charge at work or while shopping. When nothing lines up, sitting at a supercharger once every few weeks isn't terrible.
I hate these. It's a big vehicle without better storage space. Or better visibility, because of how huge the hood is and how small the windows are. It's just big for the sake of being big.
Between the EV3, EX30, R3, and little Jeep EV, I'm hoping that small EVs change some American minds about car size and reverse some of the arms race. They still aren't small small, but at least they aren't an F150 or Suburban.
A purpose built skateboard chassis is still good for a low center of gravity, bigger battery capacity, and ease of manufacturing, but I would gladly pass on a lot of bells and whistles and "luxury" features.
I'm a Blue Origin hater, too. They pretend to be an old space prime by buying their way into a market but not having done anything. They don't have the drive, efficiency, or fun redeeming qualities of startups.
For rockets, I would rather see Stoke pull off Nova and Rocket Lab build Neutron.
For space stations, I'm rooting for Vast and Gravitics.
For space tugs, go Impulse.
For moon landers, BO copied SpaceX's homework, so go Intuitive Machines and Astrobotic.
