  • maybe just making a new folder on the USB’s root and putting stuff in there would suffice?

i typically dd the iso to the usb drive, so thats sadly not possible

wrt ventoy, ive been avoiding it given some security concerns that were raised a while ago: https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/issues/2795

  • i thought about doing that, but i wasnt sure if that would get recognized as a bootable device (especially on my pc which is still has a bios instead of uefi). ill test it and come back to say if it worked or not

  • language popularity can change pretty quickly

according to the tiobe index, in 1985, lisp was the 2nd most popular programming language and c++ was the 10th. fast-forward 5 years and c++ took the 2nd place, while lisp fell down to 7th place. i wouldn't be surprised if something similar happened between c++ and rust

  • i wonder if i can do something similar with c++-ts-mode

  • I don't have the exact numbers with me right now but according to systemd-analyze

    before: ~3min

after removing snapd and docker: 1min 50s

  • i'm not doubting anything after i heard they snapified kernel modules

  • the official slack package for linux is a snap. the flatpak one is not official and it has a number of issues, especially on wayland. luckly, there's also a beta deb package available, so i'm using that

but i believe snap will only become less able to compete with flatpak as time passes

psa: snapd leads to massive slowdowns in boot time

  • human language is a social construct. is it "fake"?

  • hi, tankie here

his take is reactionary garbage and he doesn't know what he's talking about. most other tankies i know don't parrot conservative talking points about trans people

    hope this helps

  • oh no thiat's straight hot garbage what the hell

    where did he say this?

  • freedom is a political goal

  • popcorn. sinners

  • i've been meaning to try it, but my company's machines are still x11-only

  • not necessarily, though? it could've evolved once and then migrated to another planet through asteroids, no?

  • ssh -XC

it runs a bit slow, but it is surprisingly usable. in some aspects, it has almost the same performance as vnc with the difference that it is integrated with the system. i have a 600 mbps internet connection

  • yup. it's still nice and also pretty funny that wayland provides a better x11 experience than x11

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

x forwarding still works under wayland

  • it's not really a need, it's more an imposition. we're forced to do everything via the app

  • react os is unusable
